What one TV show or movie most affected you?

Off topic, but I have a story about that movie. The small town I lived in was on a river. A new bridge was built over the river. The old bridge needed to be demolished. A crew from that movie came and filmed the old bridge being blown up. It's in one of the scenes when the bombs go off. 

When Bobby Simone died on NYPD Blue. I cried big ugly tears for hours afterwards. And the scene in Love, Actually when Emma Thompson realises the necklace she found was not for her. That broke my heart.

Thanks to all the 70's disaster films my dad thought would be a good idea to take me to as a kid (early elementary age), I hate to fly, I hate high rise buildings and have no interest in going on a cruse. Recently it was seeing The Hate You Give. DD had read the book and warned me I was not going to be okay after watching it, and she was right.

Psycho ! I’m sure that I’m one of many, who after seeing that movie, was so scared to take a shower.

A Day After... I was in high school. I can remember all the hype about it. Although it didn't 'really' bother me, I can remember it. It's pretty hokey now (the special effects).. but another thing my boyfriend (who wasn't my boyfriend at the time it came out) was in it.. he was in college when they filmed it in Kansas.. He just played a dead guy in the gym..

These are the types of movies that get me the most as well. They’re real. Real Life, real decisions, real peoples stories.

The 90s version of Titanic had many scenes in it that got to me. It was just the underlining stories behind the Hollywood story. These were real people. Real people who died. The mother with her children in their bed, the older couple, and the people in the life boats watching. Man, those scenes got me.

This is dumb, but it’s the movie Ghost with Patrick Swayze. I saw it in the theater with my husband when it came out, and went back with girlfriends a couple of times. Bought the video when it came out. Really loved it. Then my husband was murdered and I sort of got that all wrapped up with the movie in my head, and I couldn’t bring myself to watch it again. I finally did, years later, but it was hard even then. Even though it’s such a sappy movie. And really, I’m not that sappy and emotional most of the time.

My DGS played Unchained Melody (which is much older, but was also the theme from Ghost) on his keyboard the other day, and I started crying. Even worse, my son knew exactly why I was crying. Jeez Louise. This is NOT me. Usually. That stupid movie!



I watched it as a young mom. There was a slew of nuclear armageddon TV movies around that time ... I think the Cold War was heating up, although honestly at that time, I wasn’t paying much attention to world events.

The tv series six feet under, the episodes following Nate’s death. I don’t know why it affected me so profoundly but I still can’t watch those eps.

An episode of ER with Cynthia Nixon. She was taken there after having a stroke. She could hear everything but couldn’t speak.

When I was little, I happened to watch that scene in Cool Hand Luke when he ate all those hard boiled eggs. I don't know why but it really freaked me out. It's all I remember about the movie but to this day, that scene disturbs me. 

I cried and cried and cried. We must never forget.

The Diary of Anne Frank. I could not fathom that such atrocities could happen. I guess I was in high school when I saw it. I still can’t watch anything about the Holocoust to this day without being traumatized.

It was a book I read more than 30 years ago. Ursula Sunshine Assaid and the last week of her life. She was only 5 years old.
