It has just been mentioned on BBC morning tv but there is no actual written report yet, just a breaking news runner on the bottom of the tv.

It says 10 fatalities in one report. 20 in El Paso.

Yes this is the second mass shooting in 24hrs. The news here is reporting 9 dead and 16 in hospital.
I'm glad I don't live in a country where this is normal.

I live in a country with massive metal health issues. But no mass shootings. Because no guns. It’s crazy, but it does seem to work.

This is local for me. Beyond sad. 10 dead including the shooter. 26 injured. Very little information about shooter or victims. Shooting lasted a minute of less. The police were patrolling the area and took the shooter out very quickly.

But I am not a fan of misuse of data and statistics.

Per 3 sources: That makes Sunday's shooting in Dayton the 22nd mass killing in the U.S. this year. And no, not any better. Anything above zero is freaking horrible. But I am not a fan of misuse of data and statistics. It's far more than the 22nd mass shooting of this year and I agree with you-I'm not a fan of misusing data and statistics. Different groups for changes in gun control use different criteria for mass shootings. Some use one person killed, more than one person injured-some use more than 1 person killed, more than 1 person injured and so on. Adding to that is the fact that the NRA has made it impossible and illegal for the government to study this same problem at all-how many people were killed in a mass shooting each year, and other gun death related injuries. The government can study drug deaths, car accident deaths, drownings, and all sorts of deaths but when it comes to gun deaths nope can't get near it, thanks to the NRA's vast influence ($$$) over our elected leaders and their voting. But if we boil it down to basic facts: It happens here in the USA and not in any other industrialized 1st world nation, it's happening more and more each year, and it shows no sign of slowing down or stopping. What can we as an average citizen do if we are tired of this and want it to stop? Vote! Follow the hearts, minds and actions of the Parkland students who went through the worst day of their lives as teens and are trying to change things. Their biggest voice is "Vote!" Talk to your families about voting. I know it sounds a long way off but I do believe that voting is where we will make a change. Not just for president, congress and house, but for voting every single person out who took bribes (and I'll call 'em as I see 'em they are bribes) from the NRA to vote the way the NRA wanted them to. I'm angry, I'm furious and I'm sick to my stomach and heart for all of the families who suffer every day who are going through this heartache. My prayers today are with these victims families. It needs to stop!

My kids were just down at the Oregon District. It’s a very nice area. I keep thinking it could have been them. On top of that, I have 2 Latino children so what happened in Texas hits me very hard. I have no words. Only tears.

They just announced on CNN that the Dayton shooter was another White male. And gave his name - just once and won’t give it again.

I woke up to a text that said "Mom, I know you'll be freaking out. I'm home and safe, she is home and safe, we're ok"
Something has to give, this is too much.

The Dayton, Ohio news conference is slowly releasing information as they put it together. The 4:00 pm news conference said that there were patrolling officers at 1:10 am and saw people running out of a bar. It took the police 20 seconds to get to the suspect and engage and killed him within 1 minute. They gave his name many times on CNN, despite claiming they'd only give it once.
The shooter shot and killed his sister, supposedly her boyfriend and 7 others. Seems personal against his sister but racially motivated. He was wearing a mask, ear protection and body armor. He was shot by police and killed quickly (within 1 minute after shots began). He was 24 years old.
Sick!!!! He had some minor traffic violations.
I heard a very pertinent interview on CNN with John Kaisch and it explained a lot more than we know about why it's a huge fight to pass new gun laws or to get the Bill that the House created brought to the Senate floor.
We keep saying that something should be done, but it never happens.

BBC saying the sister of the suspected gunman is among the dead. How strange. Deliberate or a coincidence? I am inclined to think deliberate, but it also seems like a lot of planning if he was just targeting his sister. Will have to see what the investigation finds out. How horrible for their parents. And how horrible for everyone affected by this senseless act of violence.

BBC saying the sister of the suspected gunman is among the dead. How strange. Deliberate or a coincidence? Food for thought certainly. She was shot in a car that she was in with her boyfriend. I'm not sure if the boyfriend is also dead. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-49229054

(CNN) Police Chief Richard Biehl told the media the weapon has a "double drum magazine" which has a capacity of up to 100 rounds. Biehl said the gun was purchased legally. He said the gun was ordered online from Texas, then transferred to the suspect at a local firearms dealer in Ohio. Biehl added that police weren't aware of anything "in this individual's history or record that would have precluded him from purchasing that weapon." Asked by reporters about the legality of the large magazine, Biehl said there is "no indication that that is illegal at this time."
Nothing illegal in the purchase and ownership of the gun and magazine. Before the shooting, the gunman, Connor Betts, was a law-abiding young man with a legally-purchased gun. What made it possible for him to kill 9 people and injure 27 others in less than a minute? A .223-caliber assault rifle with a 100-round magazine. If he had entered Ned Peppers with a machete instead, could he have killed 9 and injured 27? Probably not, because people can at least run for their lives. They could at least have had a fighting chance. And we’re expected to just nod our heads whenever someone says that guns are not the problem because there are many, many law-abiding citizens who own them. I suppose Connor was one of them. He was law-abiding until he was not.
