We are looking at maybe going to New York for part of winter break. We would fly in January 1st and leave the 5th. We would be going to see a couple of hockey games.
I've never tried to go somewhere colder for vacation. It kind of seems wrong.
We could go earlier if we don't go to NY (not going for New Year's Eve is why we wouldn't go until the 1st). I just don't know where to go.
Give me some warm weather options. We would be leaving from Denver.

Our 25th wedding anniversary is this January. We want to go somewhere warm too. We are looking for beach destinations.
If I were you I would go to San Diego or Hawaii if you want to stay west.

Many beautiful places in New Mexico and Arizona as well.

San Diego weather in January is unpredictable. It can be warm, it can be cold. But if you coming from a cold part of the country, I guess it will definitely be warmer than most of the US. The ocean water will definitely be cold.

You could see hockey games in Phoenix, Los Angeles, Anaheim and/or Vegas. If the games line up right, you could see four teams with a little road trip and swing by the Grand Canyon.
It won't be beach weather, but should be nice.

We did a Caribbean cruise in February. The weather was fabulous. The stops were San Juan, Tortola, and St. Thomas, plus a side trip to Virgin Gorda.
Orlando was nice in January, too.

We spent 2 weeks last January in Naples, Fl, and really enjoyed it. Naples is charming.

We went to Savannah, GA in February and had a fantastic time. The weather was very pleasant for walking and biking.

I love going cold places because it is generally warm in Los Angeles. Natives think 70 degrees is down jacket weather. You have gotten a lot of good suggestions. Be aware that the Grand Canyon has a high elevation so there can be snow at the top while the bottom is 80 degrees.
