There have been several threads lately about refrigerators and I thought it would be interesting to see what people have. Share the good, bad, and ugly.
As I shared on another thread, I have a side-by-side which I despise. The side-by-side doesn’t hold much. If I put a case of pop in the fridge it takes a whole shelf. I don’t stuff my fridge but right now I have a platter of meat sitting crooked on a shelf because I needed space for something else. I have had 2 side-by-sides because they came with the house and I hated both of them. I had purchased a French door at my last house and I absolutely loved it. I would definitely buy another one. In fact, I can’t wait for this one to die so I can.
In fact, I would rather have a regular refrigerator with the fridge on the top rather than a side-by-side.

Technically we have a both french door/freezer on the bottom and a side-by-side. As I said on the other thread, DH bought the side-by-side without consulting me when we moved to CA. I thought I was going to have to live with it until it died, but when we bought this house a couple years later he shocked me by suggesting it go in the garage and we buy the new one. Apparently he hated it as much as I did. I was always shifting things around in the side-by-side to getting things to fit. I love the french door/freezer on bottom. Everything has a place and it fits large platters/casserole dishes without a problem. Love, love, love it!

When we renovated our kitchen a couple of years ago I bought a big French door fridge with the freezer at the bottom. I didn't particularly want a French door fridge, because I didn't like the idea of having to open two doors to find stuff, but it's okay. The one thing I don't like is that there is not enough freezer space, even though there are 4 separate freezer compartments. I still have to use the freezer in the old fridge in the garage to store some stuff. But I like the different compartments because you don't have to dig under mounds of frozen stuff to find anything.
Prior to my current fridge I had a side by side and the freezer side had about 8 drawers. I LOVED how much freezer space I had, but the drawers weren't very wide / deep. For example, I couldn't fit a family sized pizza in it.
Prior to that I had a standard one door fridge with the freezer up the top. I think I prefer the freezer up top.
Even though I prefer the freezer up top, I like my current fridge better than any of the others I have had.

I have separate fridge and freezer columns. Each one is 33” wide. They are counter depth, but I love that stuff doesn’t get hidden in the back, and I still have plenty of room in each.
If I didn’t have as much room in my kitchen, I would go back to a French door fridge with freezer on the bottom.

Our house in town has a built-in SubZero which has the freezer on the bottom that came with the house. I would never buy another. It works just fine but for how big it is it doesn’t hold much of anything in either the fridge or in the freezer and it drives me nuts. we wouldn’t be able to survive without our second basic fridge out in the garage. Even though it’s smaller, it will hold a large pizza box which the SubZero won’t do. At the cabin, we recently scored a deal on a french door, freezer on the bottom Whirlpool that has water, ice and crushed ice in the door. The inside shelves are convertible so if you need part of a shelf to be higher to fit something tall like a wine bottle or a tall cake, you can do that while leaving the rest of the shelf the height it was. The freezer is pretty good sized also and has two levels so the stuff at the bottom doesn’t get buried. I love that too. And the icing on top is that it WILL fit a large pizza box!

We have a side by side. I chose it because I actually prefer that style- it seems most people don’t. I also have a wolf sub zero beverage fridge with shelves and spaces for wine and drinks so I do have plenty of extra refrigerator space as well.

We have the French doors, freezer on the bottom. I keep the items we use the most on the right side of the fridge and fridge door. This way we won’t have to open both doors. In order to open the left door, the right door has to open first.

We are looking at one of those tomorrow, the peas are so against them it scares me! I don’t want to pay 600 more for a French door/freezer on bottom style. And none of the freezer on bottom ones have ice and water in the door, which we want We don’t buy pizza or ever have deli platters, is the side by side really going to be so awful?

Now I have a freezer on top, and it’s perfect for me.

I really like mine. I can’t think of any issues I’ve had. I do store big pizza boxes in my beverage cooler with wider shelves but if I didn’t have that I have no issue moving the pizza to a different container that would fit. Maybe frozen pizza boxes? I think those would fit but we store our in our garage freezer. And I am all About the ice and water from the door.

We have a French door model with freezer on bottom. It is also counter-depth, which does not leave much room in the freezer section. We don’t have a lot in the freezer but it is still full. Overall though, I like counter-depth because things in the top section don’t get buried behind things.

We have a side-by-side that is just on 20 years old (Maytag) that I gave regretted buying since possibly day 1. It is deeper rather than wide and difficult to store larger dishes and things tend to get pushed to the back and lost there.
The freezer is narrow and deep and does not stack easily and not much seems to fit in neatly.
Dont know what type of fridge I will purchase next but it will not be side-by-side!

Yeah it’s better than a turkey falling and hitting a kid in the face (I had that happen) but it’s hard to manage. The top part of the freezer slides out, but if I do that everything falls backwards. We ended up buying a deep freezer because the house freezer was so frustrating. Now my biggest problem is dh piling stuff on my deep freezer so I can’t get to it.

We have always had a freezer-on-top (except for a very short time period where we had a side by side that came with our house. Not sure why the previous owner made that choice since the fridge is up against a wall, making it impossible to open the freezer all the way.) My step dad had a bottom freezer before they were popular. I think that is what we will get next.

Side-by-side because that's all that would fit in the fridge 'spot' when our old one died. 50+ cabinets in this kitchen (literally) and only this tiny little spot for a fridge It wouldn't be horrible if it weren't for dh's condiment collection (I think we have 4 different mustards in there; 3 different BBQ sauces, etc). The freezer part is ok because we have a deep freeze downstairs so I actually like that we don't have a ton of room in this one, easier to find what you're looking for. Even empty the fridge wouldn't hold a pizza box which is a minor inconvenience (we just move leftovers to another container, no biggie). Thanksgiving time is tricky trying to fit all the leftovers in but we've fit a (pre-baked) 25# turkey in there just fine. I do feel like stuff gets lost in the back, but I think that would happen in any fridge.

French door fridge on top, with a fridge drawer in middle and bottom freezer drawer with 2 additional drawers inside the freezer. One of the fridge doors has the door in door feature and that's where we keep our milk and juice. The other fridge door has the water and ice dispenser on the outside. I love it! It really helps keep the fridge organized. My previous fridge was the traditional freezer on top and was smaller than what we currently have. I could barely fit our food in there.

I have a counter depth French door, with water and ice on the outside, and I absolutely loathe it. There’s only the DH and me so the fridge part is okay and plenty big, but the bottom freezer is a mess. I’m always having to empty it completely to find things and I hate the compartments. I would go back to a side-by-side in a flash.

We have a counter depth four door with freezer on the bottom. I really like the middle drawer or drinks. We have a small chest freezer in the basement, but we really don't store a lot of frozen food. We shop weekly and try to eat what we buy. This fridge replaced a standard side by side, which I really hated because it couldn't hold large items (like a frozen pizza box) and I had to pull things out to find stuff.

I love my french door/freezer on the bottom refrigerator.
We also have a small freezer in the laundry room. It's about the size of a dryer, but a little taller. It's perfect for the two of us.

I have a side by side which I love. I really prefer having shelves in the freezer. Mine is plenty wide to hold everything I want. There is a beverage door on the refrigerator side which I also love. I do have a deep freezer as well so that helps. In our last house, we had a French door with freezer on the bottom & I hated it for many reasons, but especially because the freezer was a disorganized mess. The French doors had to be closed just so or it wouldn’t close properly. Came home after vacation once to a refrigerator full of spoiled food.

I checked off the freezer on the bottom even though I don't actually have it yet. WE purchased it the other day for our new home which is expected to be completed by the end of September. In the meantime, I'm using a 7 cu ft RV refrigerator.
We went with the counter depth, 20 cu ft Whirlpool, french door, freezer on the bottom. It got rave reviews online and the price was right....I'm hoping I like it.

Ours is a French door with ice and water in the door and a pull out freezer. There is nothing I don't love about our fridge. It replaced a side by side that was just so impractical to use. There is a reason why that style is so much cheaper...yuck and never again!

I have a big fancy ass side by side door with a freezer on the bottom made by Thermador. I call it the fashion model because it is very pretty but extremely shallow.... Good thing I have a extra refrigerator in my pantry because I don’t think this one holds enough.

We just got a French door, freezer on the bottom last week and I love it!! I could not wait to get rid of the side-by-side that we had for years.
The side-by-side just didn't have enough width for everything so I had to stack things back deeply. I was always digging to get to anything. If we hosted a party or had leftover pizza, there was never room to store it.
The French door is wonderful. So much more room, adjustable shelves, big drawers in the freezer! And our does have the ice/water dispenser in the door which makes me very happy.

I just got a new fridge in Spring, switching from a side by side to a french door/freezer on bottom. I was resistant to freezer on bottom bcz I thought it would be a mess, but it hasn't been too bad. It also helps that I have an old school fridge/freezer in the garage to store freezer stuff.
The thing I love about my new fridge is the counter depth. Totally opened up my small kitchen. I have to be somewhat organized with the smaller fridge space, but haven't had an issue reducing a bit. It has 2 ice makers, and love how the ice for glasses is a little bit smaller sized than the one in the drawer. It has a "party" mode where it will make more ice. And have the larger space for trays is really great.
So far I'm really happy with it, it's an LG bought from HD.

We had side-by-side for many years, but switched to a French door model when we remodeled 6 years ago. Was so glad to get rid of that side-by-side. Storing large items, either fridge or freezer compartments, was difficult. I also didn't like standing on my head to get produce out of the bottom drawers. There was so much spoilage because things would get pushed to the back and forgotten about. The Kitchenaid that is 6 years old has crapped out and they want half of what it cost new to repair it. As a result, a shiny, new LG French Door is being delivered in the morning bright and early! This is the one with the InstaView door-in-a-door, the Custom Chill drawer and water/ice in the door which will accommodate tall water bottles/pitchers. The freezer looks to be better organized as well with 3 different storage levels. Can't wait to not have to defrost the sheet of ice from the bottom of the freezer any longer!
