I've been dealing with a mild/moderate headache for probably over a week now. I've tried every (non-prescription medicine) in the cabinet....excedrin, advil, tylenol and they help dull the pain for a short time. Tried heat (sidenote: those rice pack things stink like baby cereal ). Tried ice. I can't spend my days in bed and for the most part it's not *that* bad (though sometimes it gets to the point where I just go to bed early to close my eyes). At this point I'm thinking it's a rebound headache from too many meds, so I'm trying not to take any pain meds so give me your best drug-free cures.

Could it be a headache caused by allergies? Try taking a Zyrtec and see if that helps.

This sounds weird, drink a can of coke or pepsi.

Not sure what part of the country you are in, but make sure you are well hydrated. I had a terrible headache Sunday and Monday and it was likely from getting dehydrated in our crazy heat over the weekend. I am also one that responds well to sleeping it off sometimes too, so a good dose of Benadryl tonight might be something to consider as well.

Peppermint oil, Gatorade, Vitamin B, caffeine Hmmm, I don't have peppermint oil...I have peppermint extract (like for baking) what do you do with it?. Not sure if I have Vit B but I do have to go to the pharmacy later, it's worth a shot. Been drinking lots of gatorade and normal amounts of caffeine (a few glasses of Coke Zero each day).

Been drinking Gatorade (and water) just in case it's dehydration but that hasn't made much of a difference. Dh is back home tonight so I'll try Benadryl (don't like doing that when he's gone in case the kids need me in the middle of the night).

I’d try an allergy med. I get frequent headaches, and if nothing seems to be helping, i wet a facecloth, microwave it till it’s steaming, and put it on my face over my sinuses. The moist heat seems to help.

If you lived in Ontario, Canada, I would suggest getting the OTC Tylenol #1 (has codeine in it). No script needed. Or the cough syrup with the codeine in it.
This has been a life saver for me and again, no script needed.
I take 2 with a cold can of pepsi or coke. Works great!

Where does it hurt? That can sometimes help you locate the source of the problem. A tight band around your head is often a tension headache. Stretching, massage, dark rooms and relaxing along with meds help me with this. Make sure you are well hydrated. Take allergy meds and/or use a Neti pot. Especially if the pain is directly above, below or between your eyes. How is your eyesight? Is it possible you have been straining them because you need a new glasses Rx? Do you think you might bite down in the middle of the night? If so, your jaw muscles (right in front of your ear) and the muscles behind your ear at the bottom of your skull will likely be really tender to the touch. Are your shoulders/neck/base of skull muscles tight or tender? It might be a tension headache and stretching/massaging and heating those areas could help. If it’s a stabbing pain, just get into comfortable clothes, lay down in a cool dark room and forget about functioning for a while HTH, those are my usual headaches.

BC powder. Tastes horrible - works. every. time. I buy the flavored BP Powders. So much better! Goodys BC PowderI always have a stash in my purse, my desk, and at home. These are a lifesaver for me with my sinus headaches. 1 of the Goodys, 2 sudafed and a pop and I usually feel so much better.

If it’s a stabbing pain, just get into comfortable clothes, lay down in a cool dark room and forget about functioning for a while HTH, those are my usual headaches. Not really a stabbing pain, more just a dull pain. Some at the temple, more around my nose, along the upper sides and where a unibrow would be (I don't have one ) and a little bit under the eye. Seems sinus related but usually in that case I'd be really congested and I'm not...at all. I did take a Zyrtec and Vit B (god those are gross tasting) in addition to the Sudafed I had earlier. I do wear contacts, but my script is really really low and I really only put them in when I leave the house (it's been the same script for years and the dr says it's unlikely to change even with age). Reading glasses are a real possibility though, I need to remember to buy some next time I go out; thank you for reminding me!

Those locations sound like it could be sinus related. You might have a sinus infection you aren’t even aware of. I would for sure try the neti pot every night for a few days and if the pain persists in that area see a doctor.
something I do for pain in between the eyes is to put a finger on each beginning of an eyebrow, press down, and lift. It relieves a lot of pressure and allows needed drainage.

When I have a headache that just won’t quit after severL days I take 2 excedrine migraines and drink a can of Coke. It usually does the job within a few hours.

Do you have issues with acid reflux? That can trigger headaches and migraines as well. If so, I'd try an acid blocker and see if that helps.
Magnesium supplements can also help some people with headaches/migraines.

Without having read the responses, it sounds like it's sinus related or allergies. I'd try Sudafed. Don't continue to load up on OTC meds to try to get rid of it. If it doesn't go away, I'd see a neurologist or your PCP. You don't fool around with sinus infections. As far as natural things to combat it, anyone who suffers with migraines and bad headaches would tell you to try to keep hydrated, rest with your head elevated in a cold, dark room. Only time makes migraines go away (2-3 days max). I'm on Maxalt for migraines (Rx), and tylenol 4 for daily pain (long story), but Excedrin used to do the trick for years until it ruined my stomach. Hope you feel better. Please see a doctor if it continues, just to rule out other possible issues. It could be due to your vision or eye issues, sinus issues or 100 other things!

But on a side note- I cannot stand those new packages! I know they make less of a mess but I can't get every little bit of powder out. I like the folded ones much better. Hope you get relief soon!

The only thing that works for me is a regular old-fashioned 325mg aspirin and a quiet spot to rest for 20 minutes or so.

I'll second the BC powder. That stuff is amazing!
Also, One Alka Selzer cold tablet dissolved in about 4 oz of water works well for me too, for whatever reason. I used to get horrible headaches on a near daily basis.
Hope you feel better soon!

I have terrible migraines and I take Aleve.
Do you think you have a rebound headache - sometimes too much Advil, Tylenol, etc can cause a headache to last or get worse.
If aleve doesn’t help I’d try something for allergies or perhaps adivan with a long nap.
