Haha, depends if you're talking about one of us! LOL, jk jk.
But seriously, follow who you enjoy, mute or unfollow for whatever reasons you need/want to. I've been muting Stories a lot lately - by that I mean turning the Stories off for a specific person without necessarily unfollowing their main feed. (I almost always have the sound on mute too!) It's made my IG life much happier. Some people share cool stuff in Stories but I have low patience for the ranty/vloggy ones.

Really close up insta stories and unattractive teeth. Unfollowing. And I hope that’s not too mean. Well, it's just how you feel and it's your right to unfollow. It'd be mean if you messaged them, or called them out by name here, to tell them their teeth are unattractive. But coming here to tell us that you can't look at Instagrammers with unattractive teeth shows us that you come from a place of privilege. It costs a lot to maintain healthy and attractive teeth. People without that affluence and privilege might have unattractive teeth because they can't afford the dental work to make them look attractive.

I had to unfollow someone because she plucks her eyebrows in way too far and then super arches them. All I can think about is measuring how far apart they are 😬 so I couldn’t concentrate on anything she was saying. Middle aged women of the world, I implore you to go to a spa and have your brows professionally shaped to fit your face. Years of plucking can slowly give you funky non-flattering brows. You don’t notice but I promise we all do.

Unfollowing Both of these are hmmmm... You are, of course, entitled to follow or unfollow whatever your heart desires. Try to realize however that for some people keeping their teeth clean is all they can do, they do not have the resources for other dental work. And as a "middle aged woman" ( ) I would not give two craps what my brows look like. I am scrapbooking, not modeling. They sit over my eyes and just do their job, I guess, lol. Recognize that being able to use spas and get cosmetic dental work done comes from a position of privilege. This is one reason I will never plaster my face all over the internet. People are too concerned with how other people look.

I’ve been wondering why that is.

I’ve been wondering why that is. Because our magazines and movies and celebrities tell us that perfection is the only thing that is acceptable. I hate capped teeth. I love seeing tv or movie actors with normal looking teeth, like Steve buscemi. He won’t change his teeth because that’s who he is. I don’t post many selfies for this reason. My face is ugly and egg shaped and I have a double chin and crooked teeth. I did have them professionally whitened a few months ago after feeling so embarrassed at how yellow they were during my brothers funeral. Eyebrows, professional nails and perfect teeth JUST to post scrapbooking videos? No thanks. I think the standards we set for us women, by us women, set us back a few generations. And yes I took part in a weight discussion on another thread awhile back and I’m embarrassed at myself. Seeing the boob thread last week made me irrationally angry. Who cares if any tan had a boob job or if some random card YouTuber has crooked/not white teeth. Is that really why you’re following them? For dental care? Seriously? Sorry, I’m feeling my oats today.

Really close up insta stories and unattractive teeth. Unfollowing. And I hope that’s not too mean. Well, there goes my youtube instagram career! I think I have unattractive teeth. In fact, I felt worse about my teeth when a bratty second grader told me to my face I have the ugliest teeth. She said this after I told her we were going to call her mother. But dang that evil kid. I feel a bit self conscious about my teeth now.

It’s a shame how many get judged nowadays. I’m self conscious enough and I certainly wouldn’t put myself out there with peoples unnecessary judgement. Kudos to the people that do!! I love seeing scrappy videos etc and I’d hate for people to stop because of being judged on their looks despite how talented they are. Too many of these threads lately. Find something better to do with your time than shit on people, and don’t bring it here.

Sorry but I'm not falling into the mean girl trap. I thought this was going to be a thread about IG not being in chronological order.

I think it’s fine to come and post a blind pet peeve like the OP did. I don’t understand jumping all over that. The OP didn’t mention any names, and now may be thinking about the comment on place of privilege.
I have no issue with how this was posted, OP.
I would be interested to hear your thinking after reading some responses.

I have awesome teeth (thanks mom and dad), but my eyebrows/eyelashes were burned off when I had a popcorn issue in 7th grade. They grew back dark and quite sparse. It is what it is. I know we all have hang ups about people's features sometimes, but there really isn't much you can do about it either. I have to admit that the thing that puts me off the most with scrapping videos is an overabundance of jazz hands. Now THAT is something I can do without.

I agree with @zingermack No names were posted. Your looks have nothing to do with your creativity, your self-worth, etc. I don’t even know what some of my favorite YouTubers look like. People made this personal. I am never going to tell anyone what they can and cannot talk about here or anywhere. tomAto tOmato I don’t like it when Tracie Claiborne does it so I sure as hell am never going to do it. Don't shave (with a razor) to trim eye brows, either, especially when older. They don't grow back very well... ask me how I know? JAZZ hands, eck... and when folks keep moving the product back and forth too quickly and you can't see it. Do a gradual, slow wave-type motion.... HAHA

I don’t have a problem with the OP ‘venting’ here. But then again I’m used to NSBR. I have my own hang ups - I can not watch people in videos with the giant gauges in their ears. I just can’t imagine how much it might hurt and or be annoying. So I get it, we all have our own hang ups.
I do find it rather interesting the US’s obsession with perfect teeth. In places where it shouldn’t even matter.
The BH thread is mostly about her business decisions and the stuff Becky herself puts out there unnecessarily. I’m sorry if I’m following a BUSINESS page I’m going to whine about crying, preaching, and unrelated subjects if they put it out there. I don’t need that crap.
The TC thread is a bit nsbr ish I’ll admit that. I’ll admit that my posts aren’t really kind. But she pokes at a pet peeve of mine with her behavior. Good thing I don’t follow her it’d be stressful.

I largely ignore stories. I mainly joined for the pictures of crafty and arty things. I do follow some accounts that share video clips from things like movies or Broadway. I don't want to know about people's personal lives. That seems to show up more in stories. If I see a picture of an actual person in my feed, I scroll right on by.

I have two accounts and I do not watch the stories in either. With my crafty instagram account I only want to see creative, crafty and product driven images, I will read a lengthy post as long as it is related to crafting. It is easy enough to scroll past when someone shares a personal post but that is not my reason for following you and once you stop with creative post I stop following.

While I agree that the OP's post was pretty shallow, I don't claim to be any better at times. Sometimes you just want to get it out to see if it's just you. Yeah, it's not just you. Because it comes from a place of privilege doesn't mean it hasn't crossed anyone else's mind. We all slip off that pedestal at times with an unkind thought or an irritation at something trivial. And I also agree with others above that I would probably be less forgiving if the OP had posted a link the account(s) that fit her peeve.
My peeve is face tuning filters. For people I actually see in real life (who don't have a huge following of strangers), WE KNOW WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE! You're not fooling anyone with your weirdly smooth skin and larger than humanly possible eyes. Then the comments about how beautiful you look. Hopefully your friends will say that if you post an unfiltered photo of yourself.

We all slip off that pedestal at times with an unkind thought or an irritation at something trivial. I’ll say, I’m on the judgey judgerpants train lately having all kinds of judgmental thoughts. Thankfully I’ve kept them in my head. Like the girl in Dunkin’ with a backless shirt & full ‘gramma’ style bra showing. I was mid judgement saying ‘who wears that type of bra with a backless shirt’ in my head when she turned sideways and I was like, hmmm well better than nothing at least because the ‘shirt’ hides NOTHING. You should really wear a shirt. Then I felt bad for both my 1st & 2nd unkind, not my business, thoughts.

There are definitely people I can't watch on videos or whose voices I can't bear. I have quite a few pet peeves when it comes to that. They might indeed seem shallow or privileged to others, but it's human. I would never hurt anyone's feelings by calling him/her out on it, and I don't think the OP was doing that, as she didn't mention any names. There are people I won't watch simply because their hands gross me out, or their voices make me cringe, or they use particular words and phrases over and over. I don't think that makes me, or anyone else who feels that way, a bad person.

I really don't see how this post is any different than the Becky Higgins or Tracy Claiborne threads where everyone piles on about what they are eating or wearing or how they're dancing. I avoid those threads because to me it's just a bunch of mean girl posts. Those 2 women are basically the posters on those threads bitch eating crackers. You know, where everything they do annoys you? But somehow it's OK because they are scrapbook celebrities and signed up for this? Did the original post say anything about the Instagram stories being from regular people? How do we know they're not celebrities either?
Ugh. Sometimes this board kills me.

I noticed the original OP deleted her post. I agree it's human to feel that way. I post at a celebrity gossip site and when somebody mentions a celebrities looks we always write "What do you look like?" Shuts them down, lol. Somebody wrote over here for us middle age ladies to stop plucking our eyebrows. Baby girl you will be middle age soon too and I am sure there is stuff your doing to your face right now that you will wish you didn't. We don't know a person's history. Maybe said person plucked their eyebrows so much because they were shamed. I read an article that Cara Delivigne was shamed for her eyebrows and was told to pluck them. She stopped doing it and it's now her most famed feature. BTW her eyebrows are gorgeous! Back in our day if you didn't pluck you were considered unkempt. No, I did not over pluck my brows. I got shamed over it. Didn't bother me. Now, here we are talking about plucked brows twenty years later. Damn if you do, damn if you don't. The nature of trend styling. I do admit the past couple of years and all the stress I have been under I joined the mean girl threads. I always said Becky is pretty and Tracie is pretty. I really do think that. My anxiety episode last week I realized with a slap that I am in a mob mentality that is NOT ME at all. I WILL NOT DO IT ANY MORE! I am positive and sweet in my real life. It is very important to me that my online life I am the same. Mob mentality is making me ugly. I don't like it. Sure, I think Tracie is doing some questionable criminal activities. She is not licensed with any of the companies so that is on her and I don't care any more. That is up to a Prosecutor not some random girl posting. I do think Becky's new business model is going to get somebody hurt someday. I really do. She is part of AC's umbrella. They are going to have to take their part in responsibility for her bad decisions. It's like I told my husband I don't buy their things. I buy all my stuff on clearance or thrifting. I really have no right to give an opinion or even care. Why am I doing it? It's normal to think certain things. Just unsub, move on, go some place else. Trust me somebody is thinking they don't like something on you either. If you are lucky enough to have good dentistry and spa trips enjoy that phase in your life. I have a feeling if you are setting in your chair getting your eyebrows done I am sure somebody is setting next to you thinking "She needs to fix her fillers, girl does too much botox, ugh her hair!" Or she could be thinking "Wow she is so pretty. I love her top, her eyebrows are perfect!" Ladies- We are all pretty. Even all you girls who think your ugly. You are not. You are pretty. Don't let people tell you that your not.
