I have a crappy old samsung phone and my photos and videos are always blurry! I have daughters on high school and college dance teams, so I want to be able to get good photos and videos of their performances on the field. For the college football games, I cannot bring a camera into the stadium because it is a pro football stadium. So I have to take pictures/videos for my college daughter performances on my phone.
I could have gotten an upgrade a couple years ago, but it's hard to teach this old dog new tricks! I am very technology challenged, so I pretty much only use my phone to take photos/videos, occasionally text or look at facebook or this site. I don't even get email on my phone anymore because there isn't enough storage. But I am willing to get a "fancy" phone just for the picture quality.
Any recommendations? Samsung or iphone? Or Pixel phone?

Love my Google Pixel 3A. It has a fabulous camera. I used it earlier this summer to take a bunch of baseball pictures while my son was competing at Nationals. Nationals happened to be in one of the most beautiful places on earth, (Cape Breton island) and I got fantastic landscape shots too.
I switched from an old Samsung and had very little problem adjusting to the pixel.

I love the portrait lens on my iPhone 8plus. My friend has a Samsung that takes great pics.

I've only had iPhones so can't speak to others, but my current 7+ takes great photos. Personally I think the learning curve is pretty simple.

To make it simple since you said you were technology challenged, most any camera that is 12 mega pixels or greater will take great photos.

I get compliments all the time on the photos I take on my iphone XR - people cannot believe I take all my pics with my phone. That said, the best pics are definitely the ones with great lighting and the camera really shines in portrait mode, which requires a close, clear shot of the subject's face.
For farther away, darker conditions (like a stadium) there may be a better choice so if you're going to google around make sure you're including those perimeters.

I love my pixel! It also has portrait mode and a great Night Sight Mode for low lighting situations. That said all phone cameras are going to have a hard time getting any kind of clear, close photo from far away in low lighting. I "zoom with my feet" when ever possible vs use the digital zoom. I personally don't find apple products to be intuitive so I would suggest staying with Android unless you want to learn a new operating system in addition to a new phone.
If your camera is full due to photos start using Google photos. It will back every thing up for you so that you can free up stuff on your phone.

I think the newer iPhones take great pictures. But I have heard the Pixel phones take some pretty awesome pictures.

The lone Pixel in our family takes the best pictures! Just not quite as user friendly as an iPhone.

My friend has the Samsung 10 and it has three different front lenses. He's a photography buff and absolutely loves the pictures this phone takes.

I've read the pixel phones have the best cameras. I have a galaxy s8 and I'm not that big a fan of the photos. they have a bit of distortion from how wide the lens is. The galaxy s10 has more lenses so it might have corrected this issue, but at this point if my only priority was a camera I'd go with the pixel.

I was happy with my older iPhone until I saw my kid use his iPhoneX. We were taking wildlife pictures (me with my DSLR) and they both took great photos. My DSLR is obviously better and has amazing lenses, but the quality of the pictures were similar. Thankfully the moose was happy to just hang out and let us snap away.

The new iphone X's have incredible cameras I think the XS is the best I have the Xr and it takes great photos. I think the difference is the Xs has two cameras and the Xs only has one.

I used to shoot HS football games from the sidelines and I had a big long lens. I honestly don’t think you are going to be happy with a phone camera with stadium photos. You just aren’t going to be able to zoom in enough without a lot of noise. I’d probably try to take your good photos at a practice and content yourself with the experience at the game. Or make nice with the coach and try to get a press pass to photograph the cheer team. That’s how I got my access—I took photos of the whole team.

I have a Google Pixel 3 and it takes great pictures. My last several phones have been Samsungs, but I switched to the Pixel because it has the best camera.

DD's iPhone XR takes much better photos than my work iPhone 7, and better than my Samsung 8. The iPhone X is even better again. That's what I would get if I could afford it.

I have a Samsung. You need the "s" series. They take way better photos. I currently have an "a" series (had "s" previously) and notice the difference. My current one still takes good photos but the previous were better.

I got an Apple XS a few months ago, and I love the camera. The portrait mode is superb, and even lets you change the depth of field after taking the photo. Here are two similar photos for comparison; the first was taken with my iPhone 6 last year, and the second with the XS last month. Neither photo has been edited.

I agree no phone is going to get you good pictures in the stadium. Can you not take *any* camera in or just not a DSLR? There are lots of point and shoot cameras with great zoom and quality.

I was just having this conversation last night because I wasn't happy with the pictures I was getting with my Galaxy 7. Google Pixel is said to have the best camera on a phone. With the probable exception of the Huawei phones which have been getting rave reviews and also aren't really available in the US and I wouldn't buy one if they were. Even if I could justify the cost.
My son has a Moto Z3 that has a clip on zoomable camera/lens. It does some really great things.
I'm sure the new iphones are great, but we aren't an Apple family.

I have a Samsung. You need the "s" series. They take way better photos. I currently have an "a" series (had "s" previously) and notice the difference. My current one still takes good photos but the previous were better. I still have an ancient Samsung Galaxy S3. Love the pics. They're clear. But I have to say that the best pics with any phone camera (including the newest, most expensive iphone or Android was my 2005 Verizon phones. I still have those pics and they were super sharp. I got a new Wiko phone and the pics stink, but I got it for free and it's free service. Can't complain.
