Pretty sure people suggested the ER because she said she wasn’t sure that they were actually bug bites. Doubtful the peas are running off to the ER for every itchy mosquito bite, but are concerned for red, rapidly swelling, unknown origin areas.
And I’ll say we’ve had multiple occasions of calling our dr only to be told to go The ER, but maybe that’s just Tricare...
Hope you’ve found some relief!!

I often find mosquito or other bites don't show up or bother me until 24-48 hours after the bite occurs. Then they can look like this and be crazy itch for several days. A topical steroid cream and time usually does the trick. Or a topical anti-itch cream if the itching is unbearable.

doubtful the peas are running off to the ER for every itchy mosquito bite, Not doubtful at all, pretty much every time someone posts about an itchy lump/potential bites there's a chorus of "go to ER/urgent care" The vast majority of bug bites can be treated at home, but everyone seems freak out about them these days. There's not even a 'need' to take antihistamine, but it may give some symptomatic relief. Itching, redness and swelling around the site of a bite or sting are normal, and will be there for 3-5 days.

In this case I would email my doctor with a picture. Don't know if that is an option with your doctor.

(slight hijack: StephDRebel , I really like your tattoo- are they apple blossoms?) Thanks! I'm not super sure, I had a tree there that was covering a kanji symbol that I got on a drunken night in Texas (with a pea actually) The tree was terrible and looked dead so I just asked her to add some blossoms to make it look less awful. Pretty much one of my proudest moments! ha. If it looks like apple blossoms, i'll go with it You can still see the kanji in the flower in the very middle...she tried to make it blend in with the branches.

That's what it looks like when I get mosquito or ant bites. I have a "bad" reaction to them in that they swell and itch like crazy. Yep. I'm still wondering what flew into me when I was on the riding mower a couple weeks ago that caused a few layers of my skin on the back of my thigh to die, turn white and flake off. Me and bugs don't get along (lots of itch and long lasting swelling) but I've never gone to the ER for it. or the doctor from what I recall. DD reacts like I do. We go to doc once when the sting was way to close to the eye, swelled like crazy and the kid was young (single digits). Other than that, benadryl, icing etc works. Which I think is what the doctor prescribed after making sure it didn't affect the eye directly.

I've gotten a few mosquito bites this past week. If that's what it is, Benadryl helps as well as putting antiperspirant on the bites. Sounds strange but the aluminum in antiperspirant immediately stops the itching. DH didn't believe me until he got bit and tried it. Where were you when I could have amputated my legs and arms from the itching bites I got recently? I was bit by something when pulling weeds in my backyard. The itching lasted an entire week. I haven’t worked back there since it happened. I tried Benadryl cream, vinegar, cold cloths, hydrocortisone, and really, nothing stopped the itch for more than half an hour. I couldn’t sleep so I sat up in my recliner changing out cold cloths on it all night. And I should have used antiperspirant? Who knew? When I was picking up my regular meds yesterday, I saw some Calamine lotion and recalled my mom putting that on us when we had itchy bumps. They always ask if I need to talk to the pharmacist when I get my meds and I always refuse. This time, I described the horrible prolonged itching and how I tried to mitigate it. She recommended taking the Benadryl pills. I ended up buying both. Plus, I bought some child and pet save bug spray for the yard. And I ordered bug repellant to put on my skin. I think I’m ready to try working back there again. I have not been that miserable from any itch before, and I never want to be again. So, if you have any Benadryl pills, try them.

And I should have used antiperspirant? Who knew? Antiperspirant literally saved me from scratching my skin off. Has to be the kind with aluminum in it and not the natural deodorants.

I will check my deodorant to be sure that it does, thanks. I would have tried anything during that week. I had to cut my fingernails down so that I didn’t dig holes in my arms and legs. Thanks!

I recently discovered this and absolutely love it. It has calamine and antihistamine in it. Works better than any bug bite cream I've ever used. We use it on my dog, too, for her hot spot. It really gives her relief to help worth the healing.

For those who are taking Benadryl, my allergist said that taking Zyrtec is actually better. It doesn't have the drowsy side effect and you can take 2 safely. I am allergic to bee stings and have an extreme histamine reaction to all bites. He also said it is more effective than Benadryl.

It is not itching! Swelling is down but the red area is still the size of two quarters side by side. Most bumps are gone.

It really gives her relief to help worth the healing. Thanks for posting this. I’m going to give it a try. I’m absolutely positive anything that bites or stings is on a search and destroy mission anytime I step outside recently. It’s been getting progressively worse, apparently the local mosquitoes really like menopausal blood. I decided before we left for a family reunion recently to douse myself in Off (I hate using it, shower it off as soon as I’m done with the outside), and get all the neglected yard work done. Worked pretty well, but those damn bugs found the couple spots I couldn’t reach, middle part of the back half of my body. My butt doesn’t need any help with a swollen look, thank you very much. OP, I hope you’ve gotten some relief. If I get a cluster like of bites, it can look like that.

I would have mentioned it yesterday but nettle stings pretty much instantly. It’s not delayed. And it’s darn painful
