Never. I’m not going to eat any type of produce before it’s washed. That stuff has pesticides, possibly feces and Lord knows what all else on it so there’s no way I’m eating it before I’ve had the chance to wash it. And the people who let their kids eat stuff they haven’t yet paid for as they wander through the store annoy the crap out of me too. I’ve seen way too many empty wrappers hidden on store shelves to even pretend people aren’t stealing it. Bring your kid a snack in your purse if you have to, or better yet feed them before you leave so they aren’t getting their nasty sticky hands and drool on everything that I want to buy.

Never. Besides seeming rather gross and theft-like, there’s no way I’m eating any produce without washing it first.

Never - and people who "taste just one grape" annoy the crap out of me (firstly ONE is bullshit people put one in their mouth and then get more, so now there's saliva on the grapes as well are dirty finger germs) They are grapes, you already know what they taste like and if they are in season, then they will be fine. How many people go through one store and they all take a grape, then I want to buy grapes and a dozen dirty fingers flecked with saliva have already been there and all the bunches at the top are semi skeletonized and they look too disgusting to buy...because the people who take the ONE grape, don't buy that bunch, no they go and buy a "perfect" bunch that no-one has eaten from. Because of this then shops are forced to put them into sealed plastic containers...so more plastic crap to clog up our environment. If the store has a container out with samples of fruit, then that's fine...but even then I won't taste because who knows who may have touched them (and what sort of questionable hygiene habits they had) before I got there. There's people scratching their balls in the car or picking their nose or didn't wash their hands after the bathroom and they are all putting their hands in there tasting ONE grape? Nope, not on and no-one should do be doing it. Yes, on the rare occasion some grapes look unadulterated enough to buy, I wash them before I eat them, but I still don't want to eat grapes that were once covered in other people's bacteria, even if they are now technically clean after I washed them. I agree with everything pjaye said!

I sincerely wish they would be fine in season! Half the time they are mushy or sour or just taste like shit. If grapes were consistent quality I wouldn’t ever taste them. Even at our highest quality grocery stores with consistently good produce the grapes are inconsistent at best. Yes that. Our grapes are more likely NOT to be "fine" even in season. That's why I taste one. And that's why our manager suggested I taste one. She knows that half the time they're no good, but of course she's not the quality control person. All she can do is report how many people are returning them, or other feedback she's received.

Nope. But I’m a champion at telling whether grapes are good just by squeezing one. I always touch produce. Do people really expect their produce to be pristine and untouched by human hands? Isn’t that why we wash it?

Never ! I have seen adults and kids eating cherries and grapes from the bag as they walk around the grocery store.

and obviously I don't do that. ^^^ It took me to the 4th watermelon this year that I bought and actually enjoyed.
My deer fam thanked me. They aren't as picky as me.

Never. And I have never seen anyone eating the produce at any grocery store. That's not ok, "sample" or not. I haven't either. I always wash produce before eating it, so I wouldn't just eat a grape that I haven't washed. And that other hands have touched. I'm weird I guess! Even thought I just throughly rinse produce before I eat it, I just feel better knowing they are rinsed.

My mom did this when I was a kid. Once I realized you pay by the pound, then no. I’ve been known to eat a donut and take the paper to the register to pay for it. I did that once with a bag of smarties. I could tell we were nearing meltdown. No, not all of them were eaten, but the bag was opened.

I always end up with tasteless cartons of blueberries, is there a way to determine if they will be good?
Raspberries I touch to see if they are firm since they go bad so fast.

I was SO thirsty. I figured it didn't matter because they could scan the bottle at the register just as well with it half full as with it all the way full.

I do try a grape.
I buy several pounds at once and I am not buying nasty grapes. And sometimes they are nasty - yuck! Sprouts had some the other day that were picked too early and they were so awful. I asked the produce person if thy had a different batch in the back, maybe some from a different farm? He looked at me like I had lost my mind, then tried one. The look on his face said it all. LOL
He went to the back and brought me out a new box and let me try them. They were good, but were not the ones on sale. He weighed out what I wanted, then walked me to the cashier and told he how to key it in. He told me he would remove the nasty grapes from the floor and would let the manager and refund counter know that if anyone called to complain, they should get whatever was required to make it right. He was really very grateful that I had drawn his attention to it. He said he was even more grateful that i had come in right after that shipment arrived. He didn't think they had sold many, if any from that particular batch.
I was honestly shocked that he even gave a damn at all, much less that he cared that much. He was really smart, though. DD and I buy a lot of produce and we have really big mouths - he took what could have been some really negative thoughts and made sure w want to tell everyone about how great Sprouts is ! Smart man!

No I never have. To me this is stealing unless there is a tray out offering samples of the item.
I have eaten a wrapped item from the store in the store in an emergency (migraine coming from lack of eating) but I always have taken the wrapper with me when I went to check out my groceries and made sure it got rung up too. Usually this is for a nutrition bar or something like that-something I know can be rung up easily because there is still a wrapper.
I shop for all of my groceries at Whole Foods because ever since we stopped eating meat and all dairy I could afford to (my grocery bill went way down) plus we eat a ton of produce and WF has the best tasting produce by far. Most of the produce at Whole Foods isn't plastic wrapped yet.

Nope. I don't really judge anyone else that does.. it doesn't bother me unless they are making a meal out of it.
For stuff like water bottles, chips, candy that people are eating/drinking while shopping, as long as they are paying for it.. doesn't bother me. I have only done that once or twice in an 'emergency' like dying of thirst or something. I never got in the habit of my kids doing that to keep them quite.

I have never tasted produce in the grocery store. I bring all my produce home and wash it before I eat it, and I can't imagine eating something that God knows how many people have touched, or worse, throughout the day. I once saw a little boy who was about 2 (with a nasty cold from the looks of his nose) pick up an apple and put it in his mouth when his mom wasn't watching. She grabbed it just before he was able to take a bite and put it back on the pile. So no I will never sample produce before buying it. I would rather take something back that is not good.

I always do one grape.
Occasionally will do one cherry, depending on their price.
And I have opened a container a time or two to taste them. We had a weird couple packs of a real nasty grainy blueberry, so right after that I’d taste one to make sure they weren’t from that same patch. I typically don’t though... until I get burnt a few times.
