For those who use an app, a program or even google docs to keep track of their supplies, how do you break it down to the really little stuff, or do you even do that?
Sorry if that sounds confusing, I mean, say you buy an ephemera pack from Echo Park. So I bought the Camping ephermera pack. Do you catalog each die cut, each tag, etc...that seems like sooooo much work. But if you just catalog the pack that you bought, then you don't know, for example, that you have a tag that has a tent on it.
I just feel really swamped, and discouraged with this cataloging project that I have taken on, and don't know if I am getting too micro about it. The object of the project is to help me be able to find stuff, but really, how detailed do you go? I am looking at 20+ years of scrap supplies, lol.

I use Evernote for my stamps, and just use a pic or take a photo of the packaged stamp. Could you do the same by taking a photo of the back of the ephemera packet where they show the contents or lay the contents out and take a group pic. Evernote then allows you to attach tags to each note to use as the search function. I don’t catalog ephemera but entering each pack as a collection just seems easier.

I used to use evernote, but did not really like it, so I switched to color my life app. I am really happy with it. I am not planning to catalog specific tags or ephemera for the same reason-that would take too much time and would always be changing. I am doing my stamps, dies and then ink pads and acrylic paint. I am not sure what else I am going to catalog. I especially like to tag the stamps so I can easily find heart stamps for example.

While I don't database most of my crafting stuff (I don't have enough to make it worthwhile), I do track a lot of other things including dies, and my advice would be not to try and document things that are transient - paper, ephemera, brads, etc. The reason being it's simply too much work for too little gain. If you're out of something and you want to buy more, make a shopping list. Otherwise, just log things that either A: Help you not purchase the same thing twice, or B: You forget you have, and thus aren't using.
Try to have your storage system double as your catalog as much as possible. That way you don't have to maintain as many separate information collections.

I use the app Sortly. It’s a home inventory app. I bought the pro version which was $8. At the time, it was the most I’d ever spent on an app. It’s worth every penny. I bought it to categorize my nail polish collection. When I started to realize I was buying duplicates of my roller stamps, I started categorizing Scrappy supplies. With all that said, I don’t categorize everything I buy. I categorize nonconsumables (those roller stamps, punches, clear stamps) and my Basic Grey collections. I don’t want to double buy nonconsumables. I want to fill in missing holes when I come across Basic Grey online or in a brick and mortar store. I’ve started adding consumables that are long term supplies - Nuvo Drops, Shimmerz Paints, and things that will last a while.
With all that said, I don’t worry about categorizing things like ephemera. If I double by some die cuts, it’s ok. I will use them eventually. If not with the collection I bought them for, than another collection that will still coordinate. To answer your question, I don’t break it down to the little stuff. I don’t care to spend all my time categorizing stuff. I’d rather be scrapping.
