So I was cleaning, and a spiral notebook fell off the shelf and opened to a page. Instantly, I saw that it was DIL’s , and it was a Gratitude journal. We follow the same therapists on IG, and one has started a specific journal format, so I glanced at the page to see if it was the same format I’d just read about. I saw the initials MIL. So you know I had to read that. Here’s what she wrote: I was beyond moved!! This girl has been so gracious about wanting me with them. And I’m thrilled that by living with them I am able to make it easier for her to get to the gym, stores, doctors, ect without the 3YO. And I accept ALL censure for looking at all at DIL’s private writing. You are entirely right. All I can say is that for me, reading is an involuntary, instantaneous activity, and there’s been many times I wished it weren’t true. I did put the book right back and did not read further after that sentence. ( of course, I HAD to snap that pic for you).

Awe! What a precious gift! I'm sure that you've been a blessing to her and your son.

No judgement here - I wouldn't have been able to stop myself either.

That’s awesome. I agree you shouldn’t of read the journal. I think it’s great that your daughter-in-law likes you so much and that you’re adding to their lives.

I'm glad you feel appreciated by your DIL, but what are the odds of a spiral bound notebook accidentally falling off a shelf, and opening to a page specifically praising you? Would you feel happy if someone you trusted took a photo of your personal diary and posted it online?

While I'm glad she appreciates you and all you do for her you should not be reading her private journal, posting it on the internet is a massive step too far.
