I've got one of our local "pre" news/afternoon blab blab blab shows on (take5 for locals) and they're talking about washing bed linens So the word is: Wash your sheets at least once every 2 weeks <----- that seems like a long time to me. I live alone and do them once a week Wash your pillowcases weekly - check Wash your pillows every 6 months - check Replace your pillows every year or two <------ sorry local news, I buy nice ones, have allergy covers on them, and I'm on year 8 with them. Although now that I've typed that, even though I wash my pillows regularly I'm kinda wondering if they're exacerbating my allergies, even though I clean the allergy covers regularly. I wake up a hot, stuffed up, drippy mess every morning. Oh and they mentioned that your mattress may have up to ten MILLION dust mites in it. Which makes me wonder just how effective my dust mite mattress enclosure is. Also...and I know we've discussed this too, wash your bath towels every 3rd use <---- I only do them once a week. So, do you meet, exceed, or completely fail at their recommendations?

What did they say should (could?) be done about the mattress dust mites?
Had no idea you were supposed to replace pillows so frequently. I probably average every 2 years but only because they become uncomfortable to sleep on because they are so flat.
Skandia Down sells pillows for $300+ and I always assumed those would last a life time.

In days of old, I would have met or exceeded this. Now a days, I fail miserably, except for DS who has dust mite allergies.

Somewhere between fail and exceed. I cannot remember the last time we washed our pillows BUT I recently replaced them all with new allergy covers. I will wash those once a month while the sheets get washed every week. We also have those bed bug/allergy/dust mites covers on our mattresses.
I do a load of towels once a week. Towels are tossed in there after 4 or 5 days off use, sometimes less.

I sure hope my zipped closed dust mite cover actually works, cuz otherwise ick! They also didn't talk about blankets, duvets, comforters and the like.

I probably average 2 weeks on the sheets and pillowcases (but often sleep on the couch...)
I’ve created a monster in that neither my son nor I use a towel twice... but in our household of two.. that means sheets and towels every 2ish weeks. We both tend to shower twice a day.
My mattress just turned 10, and my pillows (6 of them and I often don’t use one; couch sleeper and even in my bed I prefer flat...) just turned 4. My son’s mattress just turned 3. I think we are good.

What do the dust mites do to humans (unless you are allergic and I understand the weekly cleaning) and how long do they live? Do most people have a big pile of dead dust mites if you don't clean the mattress? I've never researched this. And I have a big comforter from Lands End (it's the thermo-lite or something about detecting body temp, can't remember) that doesn't fit in my washer and haven't cleaned it. I dread to think what that is like. I clean the duvet cover to it....

Sheets and pillowcases weekly, towels used twice then washed. Pillows are washed about every three months but it's definitely pass time for me to replace them. As for those pesky dust mites, I sprinkle a baking soda/essential oil mix then vacuum up monthly.

The problem with replacing pillows is, the one you love & sleep well on is nowhere to be found when you look again. So it’s a brand new hint every time & I frequently choose wrong a few times. The kids aren’t home anymore to get my reject pillows so I’m afraid to go looking.

I use bath towels twice then wash. However, rest of family only uses them once. I can’t get them to change. 🤷♀️
Sheets get washed once a week. I rarely wash my pillows, they do have covers on them. And I do replace every couple of years. I just try not think of all the dust mites 😯. I do have a very nice mattress pad that I wash every other time I do sheets.

I wash my towels after every use. Bedsheets are usually several weeks in between. I don't think I have ever washed pillows. I just replace them every so often. We have a Sleep Number mattress so I doubt it has dust mites.

I exceed the recommendations, but only because I share the bed with two black labs who shed excessively and continuously and a couple of cats who insist on licking the bedding, so that cancels out any virtue on my part.
I often change my pillow case nightly. I've got seasonal allergies, and I find it does help. It's not that much of an increase to the laundry, and I just keep a week's worth of pillow cases in my bedside drawer to make it effortless.

Fail on probably every single one of those.
