I backed up and exported my library yesterday. I also made sure that I did a sync last night before loading the software onto a new computer and installing Silhouette (newest version that isn’t Beta), and inputting my license keys, etc.
I have over 10,000 cutting files. Most are ones that I bought with my Silhouette subscription, and some are my own designs. Despite the last minute sync, at least 7 of my own files failed to download. They were in two different folders in Silhouette’s software and had been backed up to the Cloud. I tried to download them again. It failed every time.
This is why you also back up to your hard drive every file design you want to preserve.
There was, unfortunately, one of my file designs that I apparently had not backed up to my hard drive. I don’t know if the Silhouette Chat Support can help me recover it, but I will try to contact them on Tuesday. I am not happy that one got overlooked, but it’s not the end of the world if it’s lost forever. I would feel a lot more upset about losing some of my other files.
It looks like the files I bought from Silhouette downloaded fine. I haven’t had time to check more thoroughly, but the 7 files which failed to download are my own, and I can’t see any rhyme or reason to why those 7 failed. Most of my designs downloaded just fine, too.

That stinks! The same thing happened when I switched to a new computer. I backed everything up but I still lost files. Next time I will do 3 separate backups. I never was able to recover what I lost. Silhouette couldn't help either. Thankfully I didn't miss them.

I have nothing but problems with the cloud! I delete duplicate files, they come back, I had all of my 9,000 files categorized perfectly and suddenly the ALL appeared in my "recent downloads" folder! All the categories are still there but the files aren't! My laptop didn't sync at all until I deleted the software and re-installed it! Half of my designs won't open and I get a message saying that it's not supported! WTF? This is the biggest PITA program I have ever dealt with! I hate it!
Good luck scrapnnana! I feel your pain!

Wow, it sounds like I got off easy.
I have not had problems with it before, but on my old computer, the Silhouette software was constantly “not responding” to the point it drove me crazy. Silhouette chat said it was because my computer was too old and slow. I got a new computer yesterday, and the Silhouette software is doing great, except for the missing files. My old one does still work, and I realized that I can still use the software to back up the files to my hard drive, then transfer them and bring them into the Silhouette software on my new computer, so I didn’t lose anything after all.
The missing files all seemed to have one thing in common: they included images that I had imported from Photoshop. However, not all designs that had images from Photoshop were affected, just those 7. Weird. Maybe the image resolution was too high or something.

Yes, I tell everyone I can do NOT ever use the Silhouette library. I learned the hard way (5,000 of my own designs). After much hullabaloo I got almost all of them back. Never again! Every single file is stored outside the library. Then backed up two ways. No matter what they say - that library sucks,

I’m a huge Silhouette fan, but yeah, the library stinks. I lost all of my organization a few years ago with an upgrade and never went back and reorganized them. 99% of the time, I search my a search word anyway, so I just leave it. But thanks for the reminder to back everything up before I upgrade the next time.

I should clarify something. With a previous update, back when the customer created designs were in a separate section, you had to back up your own personal designs separately. I was tired and forgot about that step. While I had backed up most things, in the update I lost all my personally created files, and my file organization. Since I had thousands if files, losing the organization was almost as bad as losing my designs. Most were backed up to my hard drive, but not all. Silhouette CS helped me get back my file storage folders, but my personal files were never recovered.
Now that the customer files are part of the Silhouette Cloud storage, I didn’t expect to lose any of my designs. I had backed nearly everything up, but I thought I had backed up all my files. I had missed a few. Not a huge disaster, but it is annoying.
What bothered me most was that some files that were synced to the cloud seemed to just disappear. It wasn’t supposed to do that. I don’t think the software is terrible. I actually think it’s excellent software, and I and can do just about anything with it. However, I don’t trust it when it comes to storing my personally created files. I’ve been doing back ups all day.
