Update. ..not that great. Too soupy ( I added tomato sauce to thicken it and still watery) and kept adding spices....lesson learned. **new question post 6** Ok maybe I'm not getting it due to lack of coffee so far...but I plan on making this tonight and have a question. .could some one read recipe and tell me if you think the tortellini goes in cooked or frozen? ? I make soups with tortellini and I buy the Buitoni brand that is found in a refrigerated section of the store. I've never made it in a slow cooker but on the stove I add the pasta for about 8 minutes. If you're cooking it for an hour, I would think that you would add it in frozen. That being said, I think that even frozen, it may be mushy cooking pasta for that long.
ETA: Personally, I would not put it in frozen and I would that it and then put it in and just keep a close eye on it and cook until the pasta seems done.

I think she is using fresh, uncooked, refrigerated tortellini. If yours is frozen, I would just thaw it in the refrigerator first. If you don't have time for that, run the package under some warm water to thaw it out, then put it in the crockpot.
That recipe looks good. Let us know how it tastes after you make it.

I have to go buy the tortellini which is why I asked so I know which to buy. I may just cook the chili then cook the tortellini om stove and add at end to take on flavor.

Frozen tortellini cooks in boiling water in about five minutes, so I would assume that you could add it frozen as it will cook in the juices of the dish. Depending on how much you can tolerate mushy tortellini, I might even wait and add them the last half hour rather than hour.
I made a recipe the other day that used the tortellini in a casserole. I partially cooked them prior to baking the casserole and the tortellini was mushy. I think that if I ever make it again, I would not cook them first.

October 7? Yeah I would probably use it.
And if it's fresh I would put it in at the end, otherwise like others have said it will be too mushy.
I make a tortellini soup and it goes in a the end for 10 mins, then it is served.

Fresh, frozen or boxed-I would just add it in at the time she says. When the tortellini is cooked, just click over to warm whether it is an hour, half hour or whatever!

So far I'm not all that impressed. It's very watery. I even added a large can of tomato sauce to it. Will see how it goes. ..should be done about 30 mins.
