Lately I have noticed that two pairs of my jeans are rippled in the same spot (across the top of my thigh). One is a pair that I have had for about a year and a half to two years. The others were bought in May. Both were expensive jeans. I didn’t know what was causing it but thought it was strange. This weekend a friend mentioned that her favorite jeans are doing the same thing only across the butt. She said that it means they are wearing out and could split at any time. I’m wondering if this is true? It is hard to see in the pic but hopefully it makes sense. Has anyone had this happen before?

I haven’t had that happen but my guess is that it has something to do with the type of stretch denim used. That newer stuff just doesn’t hold up as well as old fashioned 100% cotton denim.

Stretch denim that has been stretched too much and lost it’s elasticity. My Target jeans have done that at the butt seam. Makes me sad. I love my jeans!

Yes! I have like five pairs doing this. I think the elastic is too stretched out. But the way they got on me looks good and going up a size is too baggy in the knees and calves. I am frustrated too because mine aren’t cheap either.

Well, that is depressing. But at least I am not alone. I think both of these jeans fit well so I don't think the size is the problem. The older ones are Silver jeans and the newer ones are Paige jeans. I love how those fit but if they do this after three months I am not buying them again. They both look ok when I am wearing them, but now I am worried about them ripping. But it sounds like that might not really be as much a danger as my friend suggested?

I have a pair of Calvin Klein jeans that look like that. I have no idea why.

Yes, I think it’s the Lycra or whatever provides the stretchiness breaking down. Do you put your jeans in the dryer? Heat and stretchy fabrics don’t generally mix.

Yep. I’ve noticed it lately in a few pair of my pants. When I read your post headline I thought to myself, “I wonder if hers are to ppling too.”

I agree that it's the stretch material in the jeans.
I kid you not, I have a couple pairs of men's jeans (I'm just a fashion beacon, I know 😀) that have lasted years, no problem. But women's jeans? They're so much thinner, the pockets barely hold anything, and they show wear faster.

I do dry my jeans. I will have to try to remember not to (and tell that to DH, since he does a lot of the laundry).

I agree with the problem being the stretchy material. I’ve had it happen, but since I also have probably over stretched them with my plump self, I figure it’s going to happen. I’ve lost about 15 pounds recently and notice that the same pants fit so much better and look more natural without being stretched.

I had to re-read the OP. I thought it said "ripped". I spent several minutes trying to find the rip I thought I was losing it.

They're so much thinner, the pockets barely hold anything, and they show wear faster. I know, and I hate it. I like to carry my (normal, smaller sized) phone in my front pocket and so many pants have such itty bitty front pockets that they’re basically worthless. I used to like Lee jeans because they were one of the only brands that still had regular denim and they wore like iron. Then they too finally caved to the pressure of having stretch denim and I hated how they fit after that. And it’s not just jeans either. DH has been buying the Duluth Trading Longtail T’s forever for work because they’re the only ones that hold up for any length of time (and they’re longer, so they stay tucked in and no butt crack shows). I buy them too for myself, but I was so disappointed that the women’s version is made of a much thinner fabric and not as heavy duty construction. They’re still nicer shirts than what else is available which is why I still buy them, but I have emailed the company to complain that they really should have an actual comparable product for women. It really shouldn’t be that hard.

I even air dry my jeans and it still happens. I wish so bad there was something to stop this. It has happened on several brands. So frustrating!!!
