I have a Book of the Month Membership. And I have a Kindle. I love to read physical books. I love to read books on my Kindle when I am on travel.
I did a three month trial of Audible and enjoyed the three books I selected but found it difficult to really "listen" vs reading. I was offered a year membership to Audible for $9.94 per month... after my 3-month trail runs out... wondering if I should commit or not.
My question is for any long-term Audible members out there... do you feel you enjoy "listening" to books and that this is worth the 1-year commitment? Does anyone regret committing to Audible for the 1 year? I have found sometimes my mind wanders when "listening" vs "reading"....
Appreciate any feedback. TY.

I've been an audible user for years. For me, it is definately worth it. I have a long commute and I listen to books daily. That is my only reading time. I never did a 1 year committment though. I can cancel or change my subscription at any time.

Just a slight twist -- has anyone hear of Chirp -- also an audible club - but you purchase the book at a discounted rate??

I've not heard of Chirp, I will have to check it out! I recently joined scribd which is a cancel anytime service for $8.99 per month. You can listen to as many books as you want to a month but you don't purchase them, you just listen and return, kind of like a library. I like it because if I don't like a book I just return and try another. The only hitch is every once in a while they put a hold on what books you can download. I have a huge saved list and there's always something available but it might not be what I want to listen to at that time. But since I have a huge Audible library that I've already purchased and haven't read, if what I want to read on scribd is not available, I go to audible.

I have done the three month trials a couple of times, but it's not really something that is worth a continuous subscription for me.
I also use Hoopla for audiobooks quite a bit through our library.

I think I've had my Audible subscription for about four or five years and have no regrets. I listen while I'm getting ready in the morning, driving, and sometimes working around the house. I love listening to books.

It all depends on you if it will be worth it.
I’ve subscribed for years and use every credit. I listen to books while I walk the dogs every day for 2-3 miles. I also listen in the car when I have a drive over 30 minutes, which is numerous times per week.
If you don’t engage in activities that lend themselves to book listening, then it might not be worth it for you.

It also depends on what sort of 'reader' you are. If you like to read current books, books that people are talking about, new releases etc, then it will be worth it. If you re-read books, go to the library, pick books at random because they appeal to you at the time, then it may not be - because you can get those from the library or other free sites.
I listen to audiobooks pretty much exclusively and I love new releases 9especially authors I've read before) and topical books so waiting on library availability or listening freebie/unknown authors doesn't appeal, therefore Audible is the best option for me. I've listened to over 600 audiobooks and probably 400 are from Audible. I actually have two Audible subscriptions currently, a USA one and an Aussie one.

I think it’s expensive. I like listening to books on my commute but it takes longer to listen than to read, maybe because I can’t skip the boring parts 😄

I don’t have as much time to read as I would like but I can listen to books and do other things at the same time so Audible is great for me!!
It sounds to me, though, that you prefer reading over listening so it may not be worth the money to you.

I have audible and I love it. This summer I started doing 3 mile walks every morning and I listen to a book almost the entire time every day.
I also recently got the Libby app and started getting free books with my library card. It’s fabulous, but the more popular books you have to reserve and wait for them to come available. I think you can have four or five on reserve at a time and the same amount checked out. I haven’t dropped audible yet, just because I still want more recent titles immediately.

I prefer books to music when I’m walking for exercise, so I get the full benefit out of my Audible membership. I also sometimes listen in the car on my commute, but lately I’ve been preferring music in the car.

I borrow audiobooks from the library and listen while I'm cleaning or just pottering around the house. I'm finding listening to books easier than reading them atm.

I thought I would like it but I found I just didn’t use it. I don’t commute regularly, tend to have the radio on for any car journey, fell asleep too quickly in bed...so it wasn’t for me.

I listen to an obscene amount of audio books. I work as a technical illustrator in a very loud cubicle environment, so often the only way I can concentrate on my job is to put my headphones in and listen to a book. Audible seems very expensive to me, I'd be much more likely to use an audio library type of service (thanks katiescarlett for suggesting scribd). But, I usually find audiobooks on Youtube.

I’ve just started to listen to books while I walk my dog. I love It! I listen to podcasts as well, but I’ve kind of overdosed on the true crime genre so I wanted something different. My daughter isn’t much of a reader but she enjoys audio books as well so I try to find books we will both like.

I have been an Audible member for year. I prefer to pay it up front for the whole year so I have plenty of credits to use whenever I want to get something. I share it with my two older kids who don't love to read but do enjoy audio books. It is pricey, but worth it for us. I also like doing the year upfront because they do sales where you can use two credits to get three books. So I definitely take advantage of those. I prefer listening to books rather than music so I go through an audio book a week. Many times they are from the library, but if there is a new book or something I don't want to wait for I get it through Audible.

I borrow audiobooks from my library rather than subscribe to Audible. I don't think I'm going to want to re-listen to any audiobooks (I only listen to non-fiction books - mostly business books that would bore me to read but are fine to listen to in the car), so I don't care to own them. I've tried audio novels and they're not for me.

My local library doesn't have a good selection of audiobooks so for $8.99 a month I think Scribd is well worth the price.

I've been a member for many years and have listened to hundreds of titles. I love Audible. I'm in the middle of David McCullough's "Pioneers" now and it makes my daily walks so much more interesting.

I still have Audible as there are a few series that I like that are audible only. However, I dropped my membership to every other month I get one credit. That way I can still pick up the few books I can't get on scribed for about the same price as I was paying for Audible only with a credit every month. I briefly checked out Chirp but didn't see much I was interested in at first glance. Rhondito, have you experienced Scribd putting a hold on some of the books you have access to? both times it happened to me as I was getting ready to go on a long car ride and wanting to download several books and all of a sudden, they aren't available to me for a couple of weeks. It's aggravating but I still love the service overall. It's also stopped me from buying so many books just because they are on sale!

I used it for a few years and it’s really expensive. I switched to Scribd last year and LOVE it. It’s only $8.99 per month for unlimited books. Their library has greatly expanded and I have been able to find 90% of the books I’m looking for including Best Sellers.

I don't listen to audio books quite fast enough. I will subscribe for a few months, download those books, then pause/cancel until I'm ready to go again.

I have Audible and love it. But I listen to more books for free off the Libby app than I do Audible. You can pretty much get any bestseller if you are willing to wait. In you situation, I'd just use the app for a few months and see if it fits your needs.

I go in fits and starts, but yes, I think it's worth it. I totally agree about the listening not being as comprehensive an experience as reading.
I listen to Podcasts, too. So I have a lot of stuff to listen to. I think that's why I don't always listen to my Audible books regularly.
And it's fun in the car to share a book experience with other passengers.
