premium? I'm wondering where our monthly family premium of $2,366 for health insurance (does not include dental and vision) falls with other people's costs?
We have Blue Shield of California HMO. We could save money by going with Kaiser but we've never had Kaiser and Kaiser insurance dragged their feet on covering my dad's bone marrow transplant back in 1991 leading to his death so I personally don't have a great feeling for Kaiser (but I know there are many people who have had great experiences with them as well).
Isn't it crazy that the cost of health insurance is almost as high as what was considered a middle to lower middle decent salary just 10 to 15 years ago. I feel for those that had to take a high deductible plan to have affordable monthly premiums. The stress from worrying about costs would be very hard.

We are covered by work. And we have kaiser now. They cover my $21,000 hospital stay, no questions asked.

Ours is around $1200. Our deductible is $3750 for the first person and $3750 for the remaining members. It's decent coverage, but dang, it's expensive. Don't even get me started on how insurance companies are screwing us over.

Retired military. About $50 for our family (excluding children at home over 21). No cost-shares or deductibles if we use military facilities, and very reasonable co-payments otherwise.
Honestly, the medical insurance is the biggest reason I encouraged my husband to stay in the military until retirement. I know how crazy high premiums and deductibles and co-payments can be for many regular working families. We as a country fail so hard in this area.
ETA: my husband and I each pay about $100/mo for family dental and vision through our respective jobs.

I pay over $1100/mo for Kaiser with $35 copay, $250 hospital, $100 ER, $10/$40 prescriptions. It also includes my dental and vision. The $1100 is ON TOP of my district contribution of $758/mo. So, a total of over $1800/mo for insurance including district kick in.

No, maybe her work does pay for it. I pay zero monthly, thanks to work, and my benefits. Our deductible is $1000/$2500. $20copay. The highest anyone in our company pays for their share is $400 month for family medical/dental/vision. They have the same benefits as mine, they just pay a portion. We have an grandfathered pre-ACA Plan with Wellmark BC/BS. I’m so very grateful for my benefits.

We have a healthshare. My husband and I pay $300/mo. Families are $450/mo. Our "share" (like a deductible) is $500 per incident. WHICH, we don't have to pay if we talk the bill down over $500. It works! I've used it multiple times with no problems. It meets the ACA requirements. In fact, if we were offered a job with insurance, we'd keep this instead.

I think mine is currently around $350 a month through my job. No deductibles. Office visit copay is $25 for pcp and $30 for specialists. Prescription copays vary but we rarely pay more than $15. Dd is type 1 diabetic and most all of her meds and supplies are covered in full without copay. Same for her very expensive infusion meds for JIA.

We pay under $100/mo for 2 adults.
HD (High Deductible) $4K, then 20% until we hit $6K, then 100% coverage....something close to that.
We are covered at work and quite fortunate.

I pay $400/mo for family coverage (medical/dental/prescription/vision). $250/person deductible, $500 family max. No co-insurance, but $25 office visit copays.
It’s waaaay better than when I worked for a national bank. But I do miss being able to contribute to an HSA.

Ya know, some people have their coverage completely paid for by their work. And some people have no deductible. I pay around $100/mo for basic Medicare now. I’ve had Kaiser since I got married decades ago, with coverage paid for by my DH’s employer, and when I turned 65 last year, they switched me over to Kaiser’s Senior Advantage plan (Medicare supplement) which they are continuing to cover. My coverage is pretty much just like it was before. No deductible and low co-pays. I’ve always had top-flight medical care there. My only complaint is how many hoops I have to jump through to see a dermatologist. I think Kaiser is smart medicine. Not that they are perfect, but they are good.

We pay $0 per month for family health insurance. Our annual family deductible is $450. We are incredibly grateful...especially after DD had heart surgery this year.

Not a family coverage, but just for comparison, my insurance with Kaiser is currently $1,050 per month, $1,000 deductible and $4,000 out of pocket. Just got my renewal information and it will be going up to $1,183 per month for same coverage. Does not cover dental or vision. I have a separate dental plan, I pay $170 per year for which covers unlimited, 50% on major, $28 for cleaning, and I think its $5 for x-rays. I have laser corrected vision, so no need for glasses, so I use my medical health insurance for the once a year exam they allow. I'm thinking about changing to high deductible as it won't be long and I will qualify for Medicare. That would save me about $475 a month and if I stash that in a savings account, it would cover the higher deductible. What ticks me off is our governor announced a 20% decrease in the premiums on the market, but then we turn about and get about a 15% increase. Insurance premiums are brutal!

$300/mo for family coverage, but it’s high deductible, and then an 80/20 split on most things after that. It works for us because we’re rarely sick - I spend much more monthly for healthcare/meds for our dogs than I do for the four of us. 😂
If any of us had a chronic illness, I’d look at switching to a more expensive but lower deductible/better coverage plan on the next open enrollment.

Is it age banded or category rated? If age banded, what are the ages of your family members? What is your deductible, copay percentage, and out of pocket maximum? What are your prescription and office visit tiers? Is the amount you stated the total premium or just your portion? You would need all of this information in order to begin to have an apples to apples comparison with anyone else.

$434 a month for medical/dental/vision, thru dh’s employer. If we enrolled thru my employer it would be closer to $1,500.

We pay $650 per month (not including vision and dental). We have a (really) high deductible plan. I’m not sure what my company pays but they always make it sound like they pay a higher percentage than many other companies. If we had insurance through DH’s work we would pay $950 for the same deductible.

I’ve heard good things about this, but I have also heard that they don’t pay for a lot of things. Especially high cost things like cancer treatment, etc. What has your experience been?

My DH is covered thru work, including dental and vision. We pay just under $800 per month for me and my DD for health coverage only. $35 copay, $60 specialist copay, $250 ER copay and $6000 max out of pocket. I feel like it doesn’t pay well. It doesn’t pay a penny toward my allergy shots and didn’t pay any toward an ER visit earlier this year for kidney stone. Anthem Blue Cross

We also have Insurance through dh's employer. Our monthly premium for him and I is 160.00. When the kids were still on it we paid 350.00 per month. Individual annual deductible is 250.00, Family is 750.00. Out of pocket limit per individual is 3000.00 or 6000.00 family. Pharmacy deductible is 100.00 per ind. 300.00 per Fam. OOPL is 2000.00.
It includes dental and vision.
When dh turns 59 we will have double coverage as we will be eligible for Tricare for life since DH is retired (reserves) military. Once he retires from his current job we will use Tricare for life.

I think for the three of us we pay just under $650 a month through the state exchange, but it’s a high deductible plan ($6k per person with a $13k family max). Having this insurance has knocked down virtually all of our bills though with negotiated discounts, etc. so I really can’t complain. It has turned out to be much better than I anticipated it was going to be when we switched.

We paid about $2400 for BCBS of Arizona through a group insurance plan with DH’s then-employer.
Now we have to go through Marketplace and pay around half that.

Two people, $1,000 a month with an $8,000 deductible per person. It’s one of the cheapest plans on the exchange which is ridiculous.
Hopefully one of these days it will get better.

$200 through my employer to cover 5 of us for medical, dental, vision. I can’t remember what the deductibles are but they are very reasonable, IMO, at least compared to what we used to have when dh was self employed and I didn’t work! Maybe $1500 per person/$3500 for the family. We have $30 copays unless it’s preventive and then no copays. Some specialists are $50 copay but MRI, xrays have no cost. Last December 2 of my dds needed surgery and it was $200 for each only. We have Kaiser.
