I’m finally going to see Hamilton!!! Ds1 and I are driving up to Philadelphia to see it and then spend the night - driving home the next morning. I am beyond excited. I have wanted to see this for years. Literally. Look around, look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now! Update: ‘Tonight was all that I hoped it would be. First, a wonderful dinner with an even more-wonderful woman, Jen. And then, well, Hamilton. Afterwards, they had us exit out the side of the theater and all I wanted to do was go around to the front and queue up to see it again immediately, just like you did at amusement parks when you were a teen after riding your favorite ride. It was so amazing, that I just want to do it again and again!

You deserve it! Have so much fun! Thank you! and the icing on the cake is that it looks like I’ll be able to have dinner with jenjie before the show. She has graciously agreed to drive into the city to meet us for dinner. It just keeps getting better.

How fun, I’m excited for you! And now I know what we’ll be listening to when preparing dinner tonight. It’s been a couple of weeks *checks to see when it is coming back down to Texas* ETA: Texas peas! Fort Worth in June @ The Bass Performance Hall w/ the Angelica Cast Houston end of June - Aug 9 @ The Hobby Center w/ the Philip Cast We saw it a couple of times this year with the Philip Cast and were completely blown away by the Angelica and Aaron Burr performers in particular. And in 2018 with the Angelica Cast, but don’t remember any standouts. We were probably just so enthralled because it was our first time, it was hard to know where to look and give our attention. The amazing cast? The costumes? The choreography and dancers? The way they manipulated the stage? Multiple viewings are definitely recommended!

Have so very much fun!!! DH and I saw Hamilton, though DH about had a heart attack over the prices. When it was over he turned to me and said, “I would pay this amount to see it again.” That’s how good it is. 😂 It came to DC last summer (2018) for a pitifully short stay (around 4-6 weeks)- because, you know, no one in the DC area has any interest in history and politics. And, unless you had Kennedy Center season tickets, you were basically limited to resale tickets which started around $500 per ticket. Dh wasn’t going to spend that amount of money and I was in chemo and not feeling good, so we missed it. Fast forward to a convention that my husband went to in August in Chicago. One of the special add-ons was to go see Hamilton with the organization. He hemmed and hawed, but I basically bullied him into going to see it. (Purely selfish motive on my part) He got a 9th row ticket for a “whopping” (sarcasm) $125. Anyhow, he called me that night after the show and told me that I could spend whatever it took to go see it myself. (The payoff for my scheming). It is coming back to DC next year, again for a very short stay, so the pricing will be the same. Philly is only a 2.5-3 hour drive from our house, however, and we got 2 very good balcony seats for $450 total, so it is less painful financially (we are using Marriott points for a free hotel room) than seeing it at home. And, I get to spend time with Jen. So, a win all the way around. Our dh’s should just trust us when we tell them that something is worth the cost. The peas are never wrong when there is almost total agreement.

Yeah the only way we have been able to get tickets has been being lucky in the lottery draws for the chance to log on and get tickets. I’m hoping it won’t be as bad next year because Hamilton was already in Dallas this year and Houston in 2018. And that they add a central Texas location but I’m not holding out much hope. Was the $450 the retail or resale price? Don’t get me wrong, I’d still pay it in a heartbeat, but that is still pretty high. I suppose it’s probably a cost of living thing.

Retail, bought directly from the theater in Philadelphia. The resale tickets were substantially higher. And, the way they are selling the tickets in Philadelphia, it is very hard to resell them - probably why there were still tickets available to buy from the theater. No address- email or home address -could purchase more than 4 tickets total for all of the shows. If you needed more for your family, you had to call the theater and talk to someone. They also won’t send my tickets electronically until 48 hours before the show, so I couldn’t resell the tickets until right before the show, even if I wanted to. It is coming to Richmond for 2.5 weeks in November/December (again, stupidly short run), and when I checked to buy tickets from the theater, the pricing once you figured in the fees, started at $200 per seat for last two rows of the upper balcony. We’ll be gone for much of the run there, but I’ll enter the daily lottery for the $10 tickets when we are back home.

I can appreciate them doing that though. It’s so frustrating to log on the second tickets for an event go on sale only for them to be snatched up in huge quantities by ticket brokers. Seating was so limited this morning when “Ask Evan Hansen” went on sale, we were fortunate to get decent seats on the evening we wanted. Looking at the seating chart there were barely any left, lots of singles. Next time I need to pay attention to my emails and get presage tickets! I used to sit in lines to buy tickets and my eyes were really opened when I was in line at the same time a WWE event was going on sale. So many brokers. Our theater didn’t allow season ticket holders to purchase additional seats before they went on sale to the general public, which they normally do. And there was a 4 ticket maximum as well when you purchased. But Apparently they didn’t run it against the season ticket holder database. I didn’t think about that until just now. DH and I went and then my mom and brother wanted to come into town and see it with us. While I can see having issues with my anxiety and not having my tickets on hand until that close to the show, I think it’s a great idea and hope we adopt it.

Our balcony prices weren’t nearly that high. IIRC our floor seats were about $190 a piece including the outrageous fees. Not great floor seats, row 28, but still. It’s a lovely theater, the ambiance really adds something to the act of going to the theater, I think. I think the short runs are typical for the traveling shows. Next year in Fort Worth will only be 3 week. Yowzers. We entered the $10 lottery too but no luck. We had a couple of peas that won though! Fortunately our luck was much better with the lottery to buy regular tickets.

They seem to purposefully choose smaller venues - which, on the one hand is really nice since everyone has a decent view of the stage, but, on the other hand, drives up the prices due to demand.

You will enjoy it! And what fun to go with your DS and meet a Pea.
I saw Hamilton in SF with friends who ended up with an extra ticket at the last minute.
If you have an Alexa, tell her to play the Hamilton soundtrack so you and your DS know the songs.
