My daughter came home from college for the weekend and brought laundry. I washed her whites, which included her white uniform tops for nursing clinicals. She left a black pen in her pocket. Everything looks ruined, all the laundry turned a grey color, with big ink stains all over! Is there anything I could try to save the load? I tried rubbing alcohol on one stain, but it didn't do much good.

Did you dry it in the dryer?
If not, it might have a chance.
Have you tried Oxyclean?
Or RIT color remover?

I use Melaleuca’s pre-spot then launder as usual. Sharpie has always come right out for me.r

Bleach?
I personally use white Dial soap on stains. Wouldn't hurt to try one piece of uniform. Get it wet, get the soap wet, rub it all over, scrub together to lather, wash in cold with laundry soap.
It gets sharpie, white board markers off of dh's dress shirts, as well as blood, grease, grass, dirt, poop, ect stains.

Borax whitens really well. I use it in light colored/white loads. For individual stains - goop hand cleaner gets out pretty much anything.

Thanks everyone! I just got back from Walmart with some things to try, but I am going back to get the new suggestions! I am washing one top in bleach now and will see if it makes a difference. Everything is grey now, so I think I will have to buy her all new stuff. I feel so bad! I didn't realize she had a pen in her pocket and forgot to check!

I oxycleaned the crap out of our clothes the last time a pen went through the washer. I had to run some items multiple times, and did a lot of scrubbing in of the oxyclean into the stain, but almost all eventually came out.

My EH used to leave ink pens in his shirt pockets. Hair spray worked for spot cleaning.
I have to admit that when I was in culinary school I left a Sharpie in my chef whites pocket one time and one time only. After that I always remembered to check. This is a good learning experience! If it's Sharpie, alcohol removes Sharpie pretty well.

Cheap hairspray is what I use. Like hairnet, the more chemically the better.

Thank you for saying that! I felt so bad! Don't.. It's her fault. I would not be buying her any new scrubs

I tried using bleach and it's white again! Still lots of ink stains that I am working on. She says it looks much better, and her instructors aren't too strict and will be fine with the way it looks. I am going to try a couple more things, then be finshed. If they want her to get a new top, she will have to go and get two more. Hopefully she learned to always check her pockets!
