There are some wildly differing views on this on the Cash in the House thread, and I need to know more! I'm intrigued that some people maybe only wash their a couple of times a year. How can you see out of them?! Do you notice a huge difference once they have been washed? Now I am not at all house proud, and will avoid housework if I possibly can, but I love clean windows! My window cleaner turns up once a month without fail, and after he’s been, I clean the insides too. The front window in my living room gets cleaned and polished every couple of days, because Turriff stands in front of it to bark at people (especially the window cleaner ), and he spits all over it. So, how often do you do yours?

Inside and out once a year, usually in the fall. Then as needed throughout the rest of the year. I can’t stand handprints and smudges. My kitchen windows and front & back doors and storm doors get done most frequently, probably once a month. I clean my own windows.

Most of them twice a year. But our kitchen windows and front living room windows probably every other month.

Outside windows - depends when a crew shows up and asks if we want to have our windows cleaned. They showed up last fall so I figure we're good for a couple years now. Inside - the patio doors get washed fairly frequently since they get covered with grandbaby fingerprints and animal slober. The rest of the indoor windows - other than the kitchen, I don't think I have ever washed them.

I wash them about every 3 months but they really need it at least monthly. I just can't find the time. The ones on the front of the house don't get too bad really but the ones on the back do - I guess because there are more trees there.

If I had someone to come around and clean the outside for a low price, they would be cleaned monthly. As it is now, they dont get cleaned very often, although I know they need to be

The insides get cleaned when I notice a buildup of kitty noseprints. The outsides get cleaned... well, they haven't ever been yet.

I hate washing windows. The living room is two-story and the front window is four casement windows high plus a big arch window on top. I’d need to get on a ladder to wash even the inside of it. Not doing that.
We started having a window washing service come in and do inside and out several years ago. Unfortunately Andy has brain cancer and can no longer keep his business going. I hired another company and had all the windows done this summer. It had been a while but they actually weren’t too horrible. It is nicer with them washed, and I will clean the back door, which is mostly glass, when it’s needed. The rest I’ll hire done.
It does seem that our UK friends who get theirs washed frequently are having the outside done. Except for the living room window and the round one over the front door, I have screens on the outside of all the windows, so that would make that option more time consuming and not so easy (you have to unlatch the screens from the inside).

Once a year on the inside. Some of the outside I can reach easily but most get washed when we have the house washed down once a year at most. I don't know anyone here who washes their windows more than once per year.

Outside - isn’t that the purpose of rain? It has been a couple of years since we washed the outside windows.
Inside - 1-2 times a year.

I was really worried this thread would expose me as some sort of pathetic housekeeper with my lack of window washing 🙈 but I am pleasantly surprised to be on a very full bench of peas with my same habits. Phew!

Once a year?!? You must have really clean air and no birds doing their business around your way 😄 The only time in 17 yrs that we have had bird droppings on our windows is when a bird has built a nest above a window.

This made me LOL! Funnily enough, just 10 minutes ago I saw a post on Facebook from a friend who decided to clean the 2nd storey windows at her house. She got stuck on the roof and had to wait for her son to get home to rescue her. I figured that was a good enough sign for me to not wash my windows. I honestly can't remember the last time our windows were washed. I have a vague recollection of getting DS to wash the kitchen window a few months ago, but as for the rest of the house...... your guess is as good as mine.

When the build up of dog nose prints drives me nuts. That’s for inside. Outside? Ha! I’ve been in this house a year and a half, and so far never outside. I truly don’t think they need it anyway.

Once a year?!? You must have really clean air and no birds doing their business around your way 😄 I guess it depends on how the homes are built. My house doesn’t have a way for birds to sit directly above a window. On my house, the outside window frame sit flush with the walls. And the roofline of my house hangs over the windows quite a bit. For bird poop to get on my window, there would have to be perfect timing between the bird pooping and a gust of wind. We go have birds, little ones, tons of crows and a few hawks too. Never had bird poop on the windows.

When I had traditional double hung windows with storm windows over them on the outside -- I took them all apart and cleaned inside and outside all the sections once a year. Other than that I did inside windows as needed. For example, over the kitchen sink needs much more frequent cleaning as do windows in the doors. I can't stand fingerprints on the glass doors.
Now I have tilt-in windows (no need for storm windows anymore) and I LOVE them. So easy to clean inside and out. As a result, they get much more regular cleaning as I do the deep cleaning for each room.
Clean sparkling windows are kinda my jam. I'm willing to put in the work for that.

The windows I look out of get washed when the dog’s nose art starts to obscure my view, so maybe every 3-4 weeks (mainly just the patio door and the front storm door window). The other ones? Meh. Most of our upstairs windows always have curtains over them so we never look out and I’d have to have a really good reason to wash them. I do take off the screens sometimes and get the cottonwood fuzz off of them though. That obscures the view more than any smudges or dirt on the windows.

We never see more than the bottom 1/4 of our windows due to having blinds. The only windows that have been washed in the 5 1/2 years we've been in this house are the two in the office covered with dog noses, and the back door for rhe same reason. LOL

Whatever you are washing, make sure you use a towel and not your hand.
