The only thing I can think of (that maybe someone mentioned, or maybe not?) is I always make sure to a fresh box of crackers in my pantry. We normally dont eat crackers, but man, when Im sick, thats all I want. Oh, and saline nose spray. The air here gets super dry and saline is a must have.

I can’t take NyQuil or DayQuil or some others because of the antianxiety med that I’m on. This won't help you most likely, but those who take blood pressure medication there is now DayQuil/NyQuil Cold & Flu for those with high blood pressure. It is decongestant, alcohol and sugar free. The decongestant that is left out is phenylephrine, which the FDA recently announced is not effective taken orally anyway (but is in pretty much all OTC cold/sinus meds). It is however effective in a nasal spray format so we have added Neo-Synephrine to our medicine cabinet. Vicks Sinex is another brand with it.

I keep a stash of ice pops ready to throw in the freezer. They feel great if you have a sore throat!

If you cook with garlic, then double whatever the recipe says. I rarely get a cold and I think the garlic plays a role in that.

Not for illness or colds, but I make sure to have some kind of hand balm in my purse and bandaids. Winter for me is a horrible season of hangnails!!
For other ailments, grape cough medicine and advil cold and sinus do the trick for me.

For COVID we added a pulse ox and tests to our first aid kits. To your list I would also add a note to check for expired medicine.

And they have to be the real saltines by Nabisco. I swear there’s some kind of drug in them. My mother and I refer to them as Irish penicillin lol.

I agree with the crackers for when I’m sick. Club crackers are my favorite. I’m also very fortunate that I can buy Vernors Ginger Ale at my local HEB. Add in a couple of boxes of Lipton chicken noodle soup, and I can stay in for a few days.

Theraflu is the only medicine hat works for DH when he gets a cold. I try to stock up on it before cold season hits.
Cough drops can be hard to find when you need them, too.

Tylenol- chewable/liquid/capsules I found Tylenol in a berry flavoured powder at Rite Aid. Little packages of the powder that you sprinkle on your tongue if you are too sick to drink & swallow a pill. My friends use this powder for their special needs child, who cannot swallow a pill. I taught my kids to swallow a pill using mini M&M's and then regular M&M's.

Not just for sick days, but especially then...I can't do the netipot, but I live and die by the squirt bottle version that accomplishes the same thing to nasal rinse. The bottle and the saline packets. It is a lifesaver when it comes to congestion. I have a little routine...do the rinse, brush teeth, administer Flonase or any nasal medicine after everything is cleared out.

I always have Flonase, Sudafed, Tylenol, Claritin and NyQuil in stock. When I got COVID I took NyQuil 2x a day for three days, slept pretty much all three days and woke up “cured” on the fourth.

Thanks for all the great suggestions I’ve put them in a folder on my computer. I do need to find out what cold medicines I can and cannot take since I’m on Lexapro. But I had forgotten about Vicks and cough drops.

If anyone has Eucalyptus tree leaves you can hang those from the shower head and steam the bathroom up. Good to have on hand too.

Our dogs are not allowed upstairs unattended or in the bathrooms. We keep Vicks in the upstairs bathroom. That has Eucalyptus oil. Never ran into an issue. Just be a responsible pet owner.

I prefer the Relief ones of the Halls cough drops. I think that they are a lot stronger than the normal ones. 😊
