I didn't see a post about last night's episode yet.
I really liked this one. It is the first one that made me cry in quite a while. William just has to show up and I start crying!
I loved how Rebecca got on to the Big 3 in the kitchen and told them to sit their whiny butts down.
I'm curious what happens to Kate's boyfriend. Does he break her heart? Does he die too? So many questions.
Randall is on the road to another breakdown and he doesn't want to acknowledge it. He can be so open to helping everyone but himself.

I really liked this one too. Not for any main reason—just those little This Is Us Moments, like Nicky sharing the history of why they open the block of ice cream and slice it.
I loved seeing William too, and how Beth used his seltzer comparison with Tess and Randall. I do wish he’d seek out the help Beth suggested.
I am concerned that Kate’s first boyfriend may have abused her.
Oh, and I liked Miguel’s anology with the wine vintages and how some years are better than others.

I loved this episode! I like the little bits of nuggets they threw at us (Like the icecream, the polaroids & the piano, comparing anxiety to seltzer, etc). I do wonder how Kates boyfriend will play into everything. Kevin is wearing me thin - he needs heels. But I did identify with the feeling of disappointment that thee only genetic thni he gave hisgirls is anxiety.

I loved this episode. I teared up a few times. The ice cream made me especially nostalgic-that’s how my mom served ice cream on our birthdays. I hope I’m wrong, but I think the issue with Kate’s bf will be domestic violence.

I've read posts online speculating that Kate's BF is going to be abusive. They were apparently still in the apartment when she started her job, so they think he's been stalking her to see where she lives. and claiming her as his girlfriend so early in the relationship without her consent. That being said, I LOVED this episode. I loved seeing William again, and the scene of Jack and Nicky with their dad and the ice cream memories.

Another one who loved this episode. Kevin is one of my favorites, so I enjoy his story lines. It was really smart of them to add the new characters. I’m really enjoying this season.
eta - Kate always makes me feel so sad for her. The boyfriend makes me very sad for what might be ahead.

Yup loved this episode too! I too think it’ll turn out to be a controlling, stalking abusive relationship for Kate, unfortunately. I am loving the Kevin and Uncle Nicky relationship and storyline, oh and the little blip of William, love it. Loved the Williams wisdom and the great talk at the table but man gritted my teeth at Randall while Beth was trying to talk to him in bed. As usual can’t wait until next week.

Oh, one more comment...I can’t get over how much the young actors look like their older counterparts. Young Beth especially!

I loved this week's episode too. I liked Nicky telling the good memory about his dad and the ice cream. Most of his memories about his dad aren't good ones so it was nice to hear that he did have some good qualities and left some good memories for his sons. Also thought it was funny when Nicky kept telling Kevin "You have strange relationships" I liked the flashback scene with Beth and William and how she used that to help her family. It seems that Randall may be heading towards another breakdown since he is refusing to think he needs help but Beth has seen it enough to recognize when he may be getting over his head. I wonder about teen Kate's boyfriend too - they were in the apt. when she go the job, so her new home address wouldn't have been on her application. He seemed sweet but it is apparent from grown Kate's expression when viewing his photo that something didn't go right there. My thought was that he ended up becoming possessive or that he date raped her. I am curious to see what happens with that storyline. I love the actress that plays teen Kate...sometimes she can give a look or have a certain mannerism that is so much like grown Kate - I wonder if the young actress has studied the grown actress so she can seem more like her. I also kind of like seeing how Miguel came around and into the picture - I think he was just trying to do things that he though Jack would want him to do - fix things around the house, look after everyone, etc.

I watched the kitchen scene. Why do I always get the feeling that Rebecca doesn’t like kevin and Kate?
Personal: I am glad that I didn’t see the ice cream scene. My aunt’s husband would do this. He would slice the ice cream into however many pieces as there was his children were around. He would pass the pieces to his kids and then send my brother and I back to grandma’s house.

Great episode, as usual. Something about the way they played the final scene makes me think that the boyfriend committed suicide, vs him being abusive. As somebody pointed out in the comments somewhere, the way they reacted to the photo was more sad than any kind of anger toward the guy. Plus, the episode them was related to mental health issues, so...

Here's my .02: I think the boyfriend was abusive to Kate and that has contributed to her eating disorder later in life? And Randall, listen to Beth. She loves you and is trying so hard to help you!! (I may be just a tad too involved in this show )

Yes. It’s the piano from the house they moved into as teenagers with their mom after the apartment.

I continue to love this show. I understand how Randal feels, the main 2 things my DD inherited from me are debilitating periods and anxiety. I had no idea everyone didn't slice ice cream in those weird boxes. We always sliced it, and if any was left my mom squished into Tupperware and we scooped the rest out. I don't get the abusive vibe from Kate's ex. Rebecca and Kate seemed more sad than angry when they we talking about him. This episode had a lot to do with mental health. Kate said something to Rebecca like we didn't see what was happening, while she was holding the photo.
ETA: This episode also had a lot to do with the addiction part of mental health.

Ha! I have never sliced it - we always scoop it out!

Ha! I have never sliced it - we always scoop it out! We always did too. The only time I sliced it is when I made a dessert that required a layer of ice cream and it was easier to layer it evenly in slices.

I was glad to see Rebecca finally do something (kitchen scene)-- she's such a one-note character in my opinion. Always so sad and whiny even when she should be happy or angry, or whatever. IDK, I thinks she's my least favorite character on the show.

Were Polaroid selfies ever a thing? I had one in the 60s and don't recall anyone taking selfies. The ripped jeans on Kate as a teen didn't ring true for me either. I don't recall any time that rips like that were popular until the last few years. Maybe I'm confused. The ice cream they used in the scene was butter...so it wouldn't melt.

I would have to watch again to confirm, but I thought Rebecca said something along the lines of “I thought you were so happy then. I never knew...” to which Kate replied “you never saw what was happening.” That made me think it was an abusive relationship, and Rebecca didn’t know how bad it was.

I, too, loved Rebecca's speech to her teenage children. She needs to repeat that to the adult versions who are often so self-involved.
I was glad to see Kate having some happiness in her young life. Apparently it goes wrong but at least she is smiling, having a boyfriend, a job and normal teenage life for awhile.

Drove my mom nuts that I was purposely ripping my expensive Guess jeans. I agree it isn’t domestic abuse based on the way Kate was looking at the photos and what she said. We only sliced the checkered ice cream, the rest we scooped.
