Well, I guess I misunderstood her intent. My bad. I do get very tired of the “pie in the sky” comments and some others which feel very condescending and dismissive to me. But whatever. People say crap here that makes me mad all the time and that’s just how it is. I’m not a grudge holder so I just move on. I typically don’t even pay attention to who says what, but the change in tone is something I have noticed for some time. I don’t see “Pie in the sky” as being a derogatory term. To me it means something that seems like a really lofty goal or idea. But maybe I don’t use the term correctly. I see it as derogatory. Yet I don’t miff out. I just put out my opinion as you put out yours. As far as I can tell we both have the right to do that.

Gee, I wonder why the GOP hates education. I have always said, trump likes them dumb. They are easier to manipulate. It's like why poor people play the lottery--they are so hopeful for a taste of wealth that they will believe than chance is in their favor. With the Cheeto, he talks to them like he is one of them--tells these white, uneducated people that they are the ones who are really marginalized, then out of the other side of his mouth, he is canceling their health insurance, ruining jobs for them, increasing their taxes, killing education and blaming the Democrats for his dirty deeds.

That is not how I read it at all, and not what the tone of her posts for quite awhile have suggested. She says in her post below that she was referring to moderate voters--which many of us here are. I agree that we all need to be respectful of each others opinions and ideas, and I will be careful to not be triggered by comments like hers. However, I was pointing out that the change in tone once the primary season got underway has been noticeable to me, and rather than feeling like we are all in one big tent like I did before, I feel that we are all in separate tents now. I do not believe that I have said derogatory things about progressive voters, or the politicians themselves other than they aren't my first choice, but rather their ideas being too lofty ("pie in the sky") or that IMO that is not what we need to get Trump out of office. In general, I hate when politicians from the same party talk poorly about the other candidates. I get that they need to set themselves apart, but it rubs me the wrong way since in the end we want to feel that we are voting for someone not voting against the other person. So maybe I am more sensitive to comments from non-politicians as well. I agree. I have not contributed as much to these threads because it seemed that what i would post would be dismissed by fred. But whatever. It's good that she recognizes that she needs a break.

This lady deserved it!! She fought a hard race last time............ A Virginia Democratic candidate who lost a 2017 state house race after a tie was broken by a random drawing won the seat in Tuesday’s state legislature elections.Shelly Simonds (D) flipped House District 94, defeating Del. David Yancey (R) 58 to 40 percent, according to The New York Times and Washington Post projections. Simonds and Yancey's race remained tied at 11,608 votes each in the Newport News-area district in 2017 after a recount and court challenge to Simonds's initial single-vote lead. ** Simonds was one of several Virginia candidates endorsed by former President Obama ahead of the election on Tuesday. ** thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/469160-democrat-flips-va-state-house-seat-after-she-tied-in-2017-but-lost

I believe I heard a couple days ago on MSNBC (?) that the Federal Elections Commission literally can NOT do anything because Trump won't appoint people to sit on the commission. They literally CANNOT make decisions about the 2020 election because they don't have a quorum. And why don't they? Because DT. That's handy, no? Nuthin' suspicious about that, at ALL!! FEC remains open for business, despite lack of quorumThis is my worry!!! We have all of these new warnings and nothing will be done. I don't have too much faith for the 2020 Presidential election......... (I am happy about last night's results though..)

Remember DT when he was asked, 'if someone calls you with dirt on your opponent would you take the call? Would you contact the FBI?' and he laughed and said of course he'd take the call, and no, he wouldn't think of calling the FBI!

Who knew? Surprise, more 'corruption' Pence involved. How Mike Pence meddled in foreign aid to reroute money to favored Christian groupsPublished 6 hours ago on November 6, 2019By Pro Publica Last November, a top Trump appointee at the U.S. Agency for International Development wrote a candid email to colleagues about pressure from the White House to reroute Middle East aid to religious minorities, particularly Christian groups.“Sometimes this decision will be made for us by the White House (see… Iraq! And, increasingly, Syria),” said Hallam Ferguson, a senior official in USAID’s Middle East bureau, in an email seen by ProPublica. “We need to stay ahead of this curve everywhere lest our interventions be dictated to us.”The email underscored what had become a stark reality under the Trump White House. Decisions about U.S. aid are often no longer being governed by career professionals applying a rigorous review of applicants and their capabilities. Over the last two years, political pressure, particularly from the office of Vice President Mike Pence, had seeped into aid deliberations and convinced key decision-makers that unless they fell in line, their jobs could be at stake. Five months before Ferguson sent the email, his former boss had been ousted following a mandate from Pence’s chief of staff. Pence had grown displeased with USAID’s work in Iraq after Christian groups were turned down for aid.ProPublica viewed internal emails and conducted interviews with nearly 40 current and former U.S. officials and aid professionals that shed new light on the success of Pence and his allies in influencing the government’s long-standing process for awarding foreign aid. Most people spoke on the condition of anonymity. The Trump administration’s efforts to influence USAID funding sparked concern from career officials, who worried the agency risked violating constitutional prohibitions on favoring one religion over another. They also were concerned that being perceived as favoring Christians could worsen Iraq’s sectarian divides. “There are very deliberate procurement guidelines that have developed over a number of years to guard precisely against this kind of behavior,” said Steven Feldstein, a former State Department and USAID official during the Obama administration. When politics intrude on the grant-making process, “you’re diluting the very nature of what development programs ought to accomplish.” USAID regulations state that awards “must be free from political interference or even the appearance of such interference and must be made on the basis of merit, not on the basis of the religious affiliation of a recipient organization, or lack thereof.”Last month, USAID announced two grants to Iraqi organizations that career officials had previously rejected. Political appointees significantly impacted the latest awards, according to interviews with officials and other people aware of the process. Typically, such appointees have little to no involvement in USAID grants, to avoid perceptions of undue political influence on procurement. One of the groups selected for the newest awards has no full-time paid staff, no experience with government grants and a financial tie that would typically raise questions in an intense competition for limited funds. The second organization received its first USAID direct grant after extensive public comments by its leader and allies highlighting what they described as a lack of U.S. assistance to Christians. The two groups — a charity that primarily serves Christian Iraqis and a Catholic university — were not originally listed as front-runners, according to a document seen by ProPublica. The Wall Street Journal and BuzzFeed have previously reported Pence’s interest in increasing foreign aid to Christians and his displeasure with USAID’s activities in Iraq. Pence’s spokeswoman, Katie Waldman, did not respond to questions. A USAID spokeswoman did not respond to specific questions, including about Ferguson’s email, but said the latest grants were appropriate. More at link: www.rawstory.com/2019/11/how-mike-pence-meddled-in-foreign-aid-to-reroute-money-to-favored-christian-groups/ET: I forgot to mention how the Copic Christians are being abused and killed in Egypt. I don't see the administration saying anything about them under Erdogan.

“On August 3, 1990, President of the United States George H. W. Bush declared the month of November as National American Indian Heritage Month, thereafter commonly referred to as Native American Heritage Month. First sponsor of "American Indian Heritage Month" was through the American Indian Heritage Foundation by the founder Pale Moon Rose, of Cherokee-Seneca descent and an adopted Ojibwa, whose Indian name Win-yan-sa-han-wi "Princess of the Pale Moon" was given to her by Alfred Michael "Chief" Venne [1][2]”
”Trump rejects Native American Heritage Month, proclaims November “National American History and Founders Month.” From: The White House “Presidential Proclamation on National American History and Founders Month, 2019““Over 243 years ago, our Founders gathered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at Independence Hall to sign the Declaration of Independence, enshrining in the heart of every American a bedrock principle that all men are “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.” Throughout our Nation’s history, countless men and women have boldly defended this principle, often making the ultimate sacrifice on battlefields here and in every corner of the world. From overthrowing tyrannical rule in the Revolutionary War to liberating Europe from Nazi control during World War II, the United States will always remain steadfast in our dedication to promoting liberty and justice over the evil forces of oppression and indignity. This same truth fuels us in our efforts to confront the challenges that face our citizens here at home, including protecting precious religious liberties, securing our Nation’s borders, and combating the opioid crisis. During National American History and Founders Month, we celebrate the vibrant American spirit that drives our Nation to remarkable heights. Our Nation’s patriots and heroes have always been guided by the belief that America must shine brightly out into the world. Indeed, this conviction has been at the forefront of the American experiment since our founding. This month, we acknowledge the tremendous strides we have made as a people and recognize that our democracy’s survival is dependent upon a well-informed electorate. To ensure the success of our future generations, we pledge to continue to build a more educated citizenry. We heed the warning of President Ronald Reagan that “freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.” To continue safeguarding our freedom, we must develop a deeper understanding of our American story. Studying our country’s founding documents and exploring our unique history — both the achievements and challenges — is indispensable to the future success of our great Nation. For more than two centuries, the American experiment in self-government has been the antithesis to tyranny, and our Constitution has secured the blessings of liberty. From the triumphs of war to the victories of the Civil Rights Movement to placing the first ever man on the moon 50 years ago, our Nation has time and again exhibited an unparalleled ability to achieve extraordinary feats. To continue to advance liberty and prosperity, we must ensure the next generation of leaders is steeped in the proud history of our country. On this inaugural National American History and Founders Month, I encourage all citizens to reflect upon the defining tenets that have always united us as Americans, while also taking time to honor those who have contributed to the great story of our country. As Americans, may we forever strive to preserve their legacy for generations to come. NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim November 2019 as National American History and Founders Month. I call upon the people of the United States to observe this month with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this thirty-first day of October, in the year of our Lord two thousand nineteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-fourth. He really is a racist SOB isn’t he. Gee, does this mean he will ABIDE by the constitution this month? Like maybe abide by the emoluments clause? You know since he’s so happy to celebrate that it was signed maybe he could you know abide by it ?

WINNING!!! Are we tired of WINNING yet? That’s the point of the new tax laws & the trade war. The new tax laws favor corporations they do not favor sole proprietorships or partnerships or family businesses or even small LLCs. The new tax laws, same as the last trickle down tax laws, are bad for small business, most especially farms & mom & pop operations. Sole proprietorships & partnerships do not get the tax breaks and then can not compete with the large corporations. The last go round with trickle down economics was a disaster for farmland & Main Street mom & pop stores and the beggining if the boon to mega corporations. You don’t have to believe me go google and read for yourself. And ask yourself why the teeny tiny individual tax changes expire but the new corporate tax laws do not? Whose side are they on?

And trump et al are scamming again!
It never stops with the grifters—
“UPDATE: Trump campaign contest to win a meal with Trump was a fraud
A heavily-promoted contest to win breakfast with President Trump in New York City on September 26 was a fraud. The "winner" of the contest, Joanna Kamis, did not have breakfast with Trump. Instead, she was invited to a breakfast at a New York City restaurant that Trump did not attend. Kamis was later permitted to take a photo with Trump.
The promise of breakfast with Trump was used in hundreds of Facebook ads to entice supporters to donate money. The ads were clear that donors would be entered into a contest to share a meal with Trump. "This is your LAST CHANCE to meet me this quarter, and I really want to discuss our Campaign Strategy for the rest of the year with you over breakfast," Trump said in a Facebook ad in September.
The contest was also promoted extensively over email. A September 20 email to Trump’s list, which reportedly includes at least 20 million people, was sent with the subject line "Breakfast for two." The email contains a copy of a message Trump allegedly sent to his campaign: "Can you send me an updated list of Patriots who have entered to have breakfast with me in New York City first thing tomorrow morning? Are my top supporters on the list? I really want to get their opinion on my 2020 Campaign Strategy over breakfast.”
The Trump campaign sent at least four other email messages about the breakfast in September with subject lines like "The president really wants to have breakfast with you."
The revelation of the fraudulent contest comes as two days after Popular Information released the results of an investigation of 15 contests the Trump campaign has held to win meals with Trump. While other campaigns enthusiastically promote photos of candidates dining with low-dollar donors, Popular Information could not find evidence that anyone actually won a meal with Trump.
The Trump campaign did not respond to requests for information about contest winners from Popular Information and a reporter from the Washington Post. But when Vanity Fair picked up the story on Monday, Trump communications director Tim Murtaugh tweeted that "people win the contests each time." Murtaugh, however, did not provide any proof to substantiate his claim.
The controversy continued to gain steam. Richard Painter, a former associate counsel in the Bush White House, told Newsweek that the failure to deliver on the promised meals with Trump could be criminal. "You're raising campaign cash, you're lying to people. If you obtain money from people through false pretenses that's a violation of federal mail fraud and wire fraud statutes," Painter said.
Late Wednesday afternoon, Trump's communications staff started promoting a story in The Daily Caller, the right-wing outlet founded by Fox News' Tucker Carlson. The story purported to rebut Popular Information's reporting by interviewing two "winners" of Trump campaign contests. But neither "winner" actually shared a meal with Trump.
Kamis, the "winner" of the September 26 breakfast, said she attended a buffet where she "was able to mingle with the likes of Donald Trump Jr., Kimberly Guilfoyle, and Elizabeth Pipko." According to Kamis, Trump did not attend the breakfast.
The Daily Caller reports that Kamis enjoyed the experience, but that does not negate that she and untold thousands of others were fraudulently induced to donate to the Trump campaign with the false promise of a meal with Trump.
The other "winner," Chris Chavez, won a contest to meet Trump at a rally in August 2017. Popular Information's report did not cover this kind of contest, which only require Trump to interact with low-dollar donors for a few seconds. Rather, it examined whether anyone won any of the 15 contests to have meals with Trump since 2018.
The other 14 meals
The Daily Caller article has the blessing of the Trump campaign, which is promoting it widely. It's likely that the Trump campaign provided the two individuals interviewed to the The Daily Caller. The fact that a woman who did not share a meal with Trump was the best example of a contest "winner" the Trump campaign could produce raises serious questions about the other 14 contests. There is still no evidence any of those meals occurred.
This updated chart details what is currently known about these contests:
The winner of a 16th contest is supposed to have lunch with Trump in Atlanta on Friday.
Trump is legally required to disclose contest winners
Under numerous state laws, the Trump campaign is required to provide the winner of each contest upon request. That's why the Trump campaign's official rules of each contest state it will do so if you send a self-addressed stamped envelope.
REQUESTING RULES, NAME OF WINNER, OR DESCRIPTION OF PRIZE: To receive a written copy of the Promotion rules, the name of the Promotion winner, or a description of the Prize, please send your request and a self-addressed and stamped return envelope to Trump Make America Great Again Committee, 138 Conant Street, 2nd Floor, Beverly, MA 01915.
(Some contests list a different address.)
But a New York Times reporter, Katie Rogers, revealed on Tuesday that she had sent "several letters" via this process but did not receive a response. The Trump campaign's failure to respond likely violates state law. This, for example, is Texas' contest law:
Similar laws exist in Tennessee and Maryland, among many others. Trump's contest was open to residents of all 50 states, so it must comply with the laws of all 50 states.
Popular Information has made its own request for the names of winners and will keep you updated as this scandal continues to unfold.”

Moderate here. Thanks for the insult. What a way to start the day by being insulted here and on a thread I started no less. But I want to thank you as well. I pounded out a couple of replies to the insult. One really wasn’t very nice , but in the end I deleted them. Earlier this morning, before I read the insult here, I was checking Twitter for the latest in the news and realized how weary I get reading all the shit surrounding trump And how it just never ends and at the same taken how frustrated I get when I see what I truly believe is the Democrats shooting themselves in the foot if they continue to go down the path Warren & Sanders are building on false promises. So I thought maybe I should step away for awhile, join millions of other Americans and stick my head in the sand and ignore what is happening. Stepping away would mean stepping away from here as well. But I didn’t and the first thing I read is I’m being insulted because I’m , like millions of other Democrats, a moderate. And by a another member, I assume, of the Democratic Party. Based on the response to the insult I deleted, I think I will take a break. I hope this thread continues, if not, I’ll start it up when I come back. Once I post this, I really will have to take a break. 😀 Yes I peeked. Like a little kid I couldn’t help myself. And I realized I was remiss in not pointing out what the insult was. Its simple really. If you do not subscribe to the more progressive agenda, then you are not a “real” Democrat. I guess some now feel there is this litmus test one has to pass before folks can call themselves “real” Democrats. Which is interesting since the Democratic Party bills itself as the party of inclusion. As Democrats we all have the same goals we want to achieve for the country and right now the discussion in the party is how best to reach these goals. I have never made it a secret that I’m not a big fan of how the more progressive wing wants to pay for archiving these goals. I honestly see a mountain of problems that could stop all together what we are trying to achieve as Democrats. And while I disagree with how the more progressive wing of the party wants to pay for things, it would never enter my head to tell them they aren’t “real” Democrats because they don’t see things the way I do. Now let’s try this again. Ladies I hope you guys have a great holiday season.
