I went through Catholic school. We always had All Saints Day off. We went out no matter the weather. So did my kids. If there is some state of emergency ( there is not) that would be a different story. Use your judgment and ToT, or skip it. I am only giving candy out October 31.

And this is why you should always buy candy your family likes to offset weather based poor turn out for TOTing and a surplus in your own candy bowl.

Change TOT to Friday or Saturday in the middle high school and college football season?? I’m got an idea it won’t go over well In many areas of the country. In some places football takes precedent over everything else.
Bottom line, you will never please everybody.

I've taken my kids out when it was snowing when they younger. They hopped in and out of the van while I kept it running. They survived and had fun. Those are when the best memories are made! ‘Remember that Halloween it snowed . . . ‘ I’m glad my kids were raised before things were all about convenience. I’m glad we had to struggle, rearrange and things weren’t all easy and scheduled.

In our area, southern NH, trick or treating is the night before Halloween.

We are going to get hurricane force winds starting tomorrow night SO I do see the concerns. It's not the rain

yes, everyone is all in a tizzy about some rain. who cares?? put some boots on and a big golf umbrella and out you go. your kids don't have to do the whole darn neighbourhood....just put their costumes on, get some candy and come home. I am from MN where is snowed 28 inches one year and kids still ToT'd all night long. If we waited for good weather in MN, we'd have Halloween only every 5-6 years. i grew up in rural manitoba and yup.... if you waited for perfect weather, halloween would be forgotten about all together. i have trick or treated in a blizzard and we got TONS of candy. people bought a lot but not as many kids went out or went home sooner. they were desperate to unload their stash on us!! i remember one year i wanted to be little-bo-peep and my poodle (who needed grooming) was going to be my sheep. my mom said it was too cold for the dog but i could still go. lol!!!

We have all manner of weather that we deal with, rain, snow, extreme cold (-15F or colder), windy. You either put on another layer or stay home. If we waited for nice weather, Halloween wouldn’t happen often. Half the Halloween's are spent in a snowsuit. There is never talk of moving it, you'd have to move it to July to get better weather! I remember taking my DD one year, it was "warm" but there had been freezing rain and it was a solid sheet of ice.

We've had ours already! It was last Saturday in the rain! No one melted.
I will say as far as tomorrow 2 local communities have changed theirs to Saturday because of the impending snow/rain.

Our area does TOT on the 30th and call it Beggar's Night (because years ago on Halloween some hooligans did some shenanigans and wreaked havoc...oh my!) Thankfully my youngest decided to be done and stay home to hand out candy because it was cold tonight--it snowed most of the afternoon, but it didn't stick at all.
As much as I don't like it being on the 30th, I don't want it moved to a set day. Fridays and Saturdays are for football.

We're facing severe thunderstorms with 25MPH winds tomorrow night. In our area, at least, it's more than just kids getting wet in the rain. So some cities/communities have already announced moving Trick or Treat to Saturday. I think it's a good call. We have rain/snow mix predicted 95%... I wish we would move the date. Personally I would love Halloween to be on a Saturday.

Really? For as long as Halloween has been a thing, kids have gone house to house ON THE 31ST regardless of the day of the week. There was an uproar one year because it was a Sunday. So what?? Do we move Christmas because it falls on a weekday? I wish it was rain here tomorrow. It's supposed to be freezing cold! My town is one of those weird ones who does not do Trick or Treating if it falls on a Sunday.
I personally do not care if it's on the 31st. It happens with other holidays that have a lot more meaning than begging for treats. I feel that way about Christmas too. It's not like it's Jesus's real birthday. I'd prefer the last Friday in October. Halloween is more fun when you can stay up later and get over the sugar rush.

In some places football takes precedent over everything else. Ha! I didn't think about that! I think Saturday would be fine in my area. Our high school football team sucks anyway. I don't see many people getting in a tizzy over Saturday games on TV.
I personally am a fan of Trunk or Treat and the other alternatives to trick or treating that are out there. We went last week (businesses in town) and we are done! It's what works best for my son. Trunk or Treat is awesome for rural communities. I had to work my a$$ off for half a bag of candy as a kid.

Yup. We had a party that year and the only people who came were the neighbors from across the street. Everyone else was scared off by the forecast. When our friends decided they should probably mosey on home, the snow had drifted waist high all the way across the street. They told us the next day that it took them almost 45 minutes to walk back home! It’s going to be only cloudy but pretty cold tomorrow night, so we had to come up with an alternate costume for DD so she wouldn’t freeze to death. I feel like it has been a lot colder recently on Halloween than I ever remember it being when I was a kid. Rain sucks but snow is worse.

I would have bribed the shit out of my kids. Have candy for supper, watch TV all night long, rent a movie, play games,....

We did have a buttload of candy for the neighborhood kids and a lot of them either didn’t go or made it a short night. We had way too much food, a whole keg of beer that nobody drank any of, and a TON of leftover candy. Whoops. Epic fail.

As an Ohio girl born and raised, I’ve ToT’d in all kinds of weather—blistering heat, rain, sleet, snow—and so have my kids. Granted, when the weather is particularly nasty our ToTing is cut a little short. We all survive though.
I also have to say, and I know some are shocked by this, I have always ToT’d on the weekend before Halloween, unless Halloween is a weekend, then it’s on the day. And it’s been the same for my kids. I know much of the country, and even much of my state, does it on the holiday, but I was into adulthood before I realized any people ToT’d on Halloween night.

Okay, so I heard the best thing at church last night. I was having dinner with a group of people my age and older. We were discussing trick or treating in the rain and how it was never a problem for us when growing up. So, this older gentleman at the table said his son went trick or treating with a friend one year when they were "older elementary." The friend had sponges stuck to himself all over. This was before Sponge Bob, and the older gentleman didn't know what he was supposed to be. He just remembered all of the sponges. And then it began to pour rain as they were trick or treating. Guess what happened to that poor kid? Yep, he could barely walk with all of the water soaking those sponges. Can you imagine? I laughed so hard!!! Now that's a funny one!

Last week we had a similar storm that knocked down trees on a bunch of houses in the next town over. We live in New England, we're used to crap weather on Halloween. But we want the kids to be safe.

It is snowing steadily here. I doubt we will have many kids come to our house, but I am ready for those who brave it. There has been hoopla about the mayor refusing to move trick or treating to this weekend (other small villages and towns near us have), but I don't really care. LOL . Snow is snow and is going to come when it wants to. Those same parents will be at the high school football playoffs this weekend with their kids.

It's cold and rainy and windy here outside of Cincinnati tonight. We were just remembering the year Quinn had four friends over to ToT in our neighborhood and it was pouring. Nothing was rescheduled. One of the moms took the girls to Graeters to get ice cream in their costumes and then all five of us combined and divided up the candy we were going to pass out among the five girls. And we lived to tell about it.
However, that was also the night we were left with 200 hotdogs and buns because we used to have our grill going and pass out hotdogs. We donated all of that to a food pantry.
Halloween weather is always a crap shoot down here. But I think keeping ToT on Halloween means we don't have to worry about rescheduling and trying to please everyone. I think that just creates more chaos with schedules, etc.

If they move it to either then it works for some but not all. Then what, you keep moving it around looking for the best date. Just leave it as it is on its real date.

We put off going out in the rain until 6, and when we actually got outside, the rain stopped mostly for the full hour we were out. Light drizzle at worst.
It was my son and my nephew, who are four, and they had so much fun. Perfect, even if it was rainy, Halloween!

Mine are 19 and 24 so I no longer really care. But, when they were little I wished we lived in an area that did TOT on the Saturday before Halloween.
Rain...We live in Seattle, a little rain doesn't stop us.
