OMG - there is such an uproar with the "special weather statement" and the ton of rain we are to get from today until Friday.
Where can we have the kids trick or treat indoors? Any suggestions? Maybe the community centres can open up and we can all take our candy there for the kids to go from spot to spot?
And don't get me started on the "we should move Halloween to the last Saturday of the month instead of the 31st so it is always on a weekend"
Really? For as long as Halloween has been a thing, kids have gone house to house ON THE 31ST regardless of the day of the week. There was an uproar one year because it was a Sunday. So what?? Do we move Christmas because it falls on a weekday?
I will buy candy, be happy my oldest and her girlfriend are coming for dinner and to hand out the candy, and call it a day. I am not travelling my ass to a community centre to hand out to kids. Nope nope nope.

SING IT SISTER!!! It is so ridiculous. Halloween is Oct. 31. It's rain either go out or stay home but I'm sure those special snowflakes won't melt.., nor will their parents.
I will hand out candy at my door on Oct 31. If the weather is shitty you will get more treats from me.. If the date changes or I am expected to go somewhere to hand it out, I will be done with Halloween trick or treaters.

PREACH! I'm seeing all the same types of posts here. I don't see what the big deal is. No one is going to melt! If it's bad out, we will hit a few houses and call it a night. My kids have already gone to plenty of Halloween themed events this year. They will be just fine if they don't get in hours of trick or treating too!

It's snowing here and 20 degrees. I think that makes it too cold to go out to Trick or Treat. A lot of places were planning Trunk or Treats for tomorrow and are moving them inside.

We're facing severe thunderstorms with 25MPH winds tomorrow night. In our area, at least, it's more than just kids getting wet in the rain. So some cities/communities have already announced moving Trick or Treat to Saturday. I think it's a good call.

I've taken my kids out when it was snowing when they younger. They hopped in and out of the van while I kept it running. They survived and had fun.

Well, I actually think they should move trick or treat to the last Sat or Sun of the month because of all the a**hole distracted drivers making their way home from work in the dark while the kids are running the streets. It's safer on the weekend, and even might make it easier for more working parents to be out there with their kids in order to keep them safer.
Husband is a UPS driver, and weekday trick or treating is his least favorite day of the year - he's almost hit kids, he's seen others almost hit kids, and seen quite a few car accidents of people trying not to hit kids.
Running the streets in the dark very close to rush hour is not the smartest thing in many neighborhoods.

You know, it's okay if kids miss a Halloween. There's another one scheduled next year. A little disappointment now goes a long way towards a lifetime of resilience and coping.

I don't agree with moving Halloween to a day other than the 31st, but I do agree that traffic is terrible on the 31st. All the working parents leaving work early to try to get home, the fact that it is getting darker earlier, and the kids running around. Such a dangerous commute day.

We do it on the 31rst or it's just canceled. No official cancellation. Kids just won't show up due to weather. I wish our town would move it to Friday night due to rain tomorrow. There is a slight chance it might move out in the late afternoon. We get 600 plus kids in our subdivision and that's a lot of kids to buy candy for and have it rained out. We don't have big enough indoor facility but would love a rain date. We are a strong bible belt type of small town but if the 31rst falls on a Sunday even we cancel 5pm services and stay home and hand out candy.

We've got high winds and flash flooding in the forecast, along with the rain. I broke the news to my son yesterday that there is a chance we won't be going out. I'm not going to try to find someplace indoors and I've already got plans for the weekend...so it might just be a year that he has to deal with no going out. He's already been to 2 parties where he got to wear his costume plus he'll get to wear it at school tomorrow...he'll survive. As a bonus, more candy for us at home.

I am from MN where is snowed 28 inches one year and kids still ToT'd all night long. If we waited for good weather in MN, we'd have Halloween only every 5-6 years.

I have never heard so much whining and crying as when Halloween is during the week and/or rain. I have ToTed in the rain, the hot, the cold and it even snowed here one year. If it got really bad, we would let our girls dress up, watch Halloween movies, pick whatever they wanted for supper and eat all the candy they wanted. One year we waited to carve and paint pumpkins. I only remember doing this once or twice. You know what? Everyone lived and we made some great memories

We have all manner of weather that we deal with, rain, snow, extreme cold (-15F or colder), windy. You either put on another layer or stay home. If we waited for nice weather, Halloween wouldn’t happen often.

People here would LOSE THEIR MINDS if it rained on Halloween. But it hardly ever rains here, hence the fires.

I grew up in Southern California in the 60’s. The largish town I lived in always scheduled trick or treating for the Friday or Saturday closest to the 31st. It was great, we could stay out late and sleep in the next day. The weather was usually glorious, so it had nothing to do with the weather. Just easier to deal with kids out on the streets. I really don’t understand this idea that it MUST be on the 31st. I used to be a teacher, and I’ll agree the the other poster, the day after Halloween is hell on teachers.
Even more shocking, Halloween was a normal school day. We were not allowed to wear our costumes, and there were no parties. We all survived.
OMG. When did I turn into a crotchety old woman? Ha ha ha ha.

Were fussing about the weather too but the town we moved from is all in a dither because TOT is on halloween. They've always done it the Thursday before so people are worried the kids wont come to such a small town.

I am in the group that thinks trick or treating should be moved to the Saturday before Halloween. This isn't the same as moving Halloween. Halloween is still the 31st, but trick or trick would be easier if it were on Saturday.

We are expected to get 2 inches of rain and strong winds tomorrow. Many communities moved Halloween to Saturday, but not our community. I guess I don't have to buy more candy, because we probably won't get too many trick or treaters. Lots of little kids in our neighborhood, so I don't know if the parents will be taking them out for long. I do hope our neighborhood parade and cook out still goes on! If not, I will have to cook dinner!

Ha ha, growing up in Oregon there was never a dry Halloween. We'd always have our coats on over the costumes and everybody would be a soaked bedraggled mess. There is actually a "You know you're a native Oregonian when..." meme that's all about raincoats/ponchos over costumes. As a kid, I wanted candy too much to care about the weather. (But that being said, flooding and super cold/snow is a whole other matter.)

Halloween is still the 31st, but trick or trick would be easier if it were on Saturday. It would in some ways. I’m a teacher and I know what the day after Halloween is like. In other ways it seems like opening Christmas presents on December 18, you can do that, but the rest of the world is still doing it on the holiday itself. So many opportunities to create confusion in the name of making things easier. It is really only one night out of the year. In our area if you don’t want to TOT on whatever night Halloween is, you have about 50 trunk or treat events you can pick from and most are on Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

Our town announced yesterday that TOT will be Saturday due to weather. I live in a neighborhood outside of town that goes all out for TOT. We only have about 30 homes but quite a few kids—maybe 45-ish? Between the neighborhood kids and a few from the surrounding area, I think I had between 60 and 70 TOTers last year.
So our HOA website has a discussion going about whether we change TOT for the neighborhood. Some want to keep Thursday, even if it rains, because there is a sports tournament this weekend that involves several of our kids. Others said they weren’t going to be able to do it Thursday and were hopeful the date changes so their kids can participate.
My favorite response is the neighbor who said she would be home both nights and giving candy to anyone who knocked because she didn’t intend to gain 10’pounds off a bunch of leftover candy. I think I’m going to post ditto. I may have to be elsewhere Saturday evening, but I’ll be happy to leave a bowl of candy on the porch.

It has rained here for quite a few Halloweens in recent memory. Not as many people turn out but we still have fun.
The one year I knew it was sure to rain, we made jellyfish umbrellas out of a clear umbrella, glow sticks and recycling bags. Actually, I might make those again tomorrow, they were fun!

I have no idea what they are doing here. Our church had Trunk or Treat last Sunday. But as far as the 31st, I have no idea but it's not just rain here either. They are expecting heavy rains, very high winds, and possible tornadoes. I don't think that's a good idea for kids to go out in that personally. Rain yes but not that.

We just got three days of snow. I am sad for the kids who have parents who won't take them. It is supposed to be a high of 48 degrees tomorrow, so hopefully the roads and sidewalks will be clear.

My special snowflake would have melted. She dislikes anything type of rain or snow. It barely rains here and yet she had umbrellas, raincoats, boots 🤷♀️
Halloween can’t be moved, unless you want to move all saints day too.
Btw: Can you get fined or arrested if you still pass out candy ( or go trick or treating) if your area “cancels” Halloween?

We could make a list of rain appropriate Halloween costumes. The Morton's salt girl and the Gordon's fisherman comes to mind!

It is going to be miserable out there tomorrow night. I don’t ever want Halloween on another night but standing on the sidewalk in near-freezing rain is pretty much the worst night of the year for me. And Halloween is supposed to be my favourite holiday!
