Get some bottle caps, fun dip & pop rocks & put inside a Mr. Rogers cup or Happy Days/Magnum PI lunch box with some round tinted sunglasses.
Macrame hanging plant holder.

Amazon has The Clapper for sale. Reviews aren’t so great but it’s good for nostalgia. They also carry the Pet Rock. Music CD of greatest hits from any of those eras.

Soap on a rope...comes to mind. We had one white elephant swap and that was the most sought after item.

I found a golden girls DVD at a garage sale that would be perfect! Even better if it was VHS or beta!

Look on eBay for vintage stuff. But I have to say, I have never understood the appeal of exchanging what is basically junk for gifts. Why?! 99% of the time, it’s just going to go in the trash or the donate pile after the holidays. I’d rather exchange small gifts that people might actually keep and use. Okay, I got that out of my system. Just ignore me.

I want to find something that they would want to keep or display.

Take a look at the “As seen on TV” aisle for inspiration. Sometimes there is something useful there, though I am stumped to think of what that could be right now.

What type of group are you exchanging with? Age, type, genders? Co workers, family, neighbors?
Think about who might be getting the gift, and go from there. Were they in high school during that time? Were they even born yet? Are they older? I’d aim at how old that person might have been during the 80s.

I'm going to second the Caboodle. I just ordered three of them to give to my nieces for Christmas and they look just like the ones my friends and I carried around. They fall within your price range and you could buy a Bonnie Bell lip smacker or two to put in it.

EZ bake I’d probably pick up one or two board games. I second the board game idea. My favourite game when I was a kid in the 70s was Mousetrap. They released it again when my kids were little, I was so excited! @megmc I would be thrilled to get a Corelle casserole dish! Great idea.

Okay, I got that out of my system. Just ignore me. I agree. I don't like those kind of gift exchanges, I don't want or need stuff I won't use and is going to end up tossed or donated. I'd rather not participate and use my money and buy something I want. Just call me bah humbug!
