No jacket, ever. When it's cool he wears a hoodie. When it's cold he wears a hoodie...And he always wears shorts to school, no matter the weather. Ditto for our 12 y.o. boy. He rotates between several pullover & zippered UnderArmour & Nike hoodies, usually worn with a short- or long-sleeved tee-shirt, long mesh or basketball shorts, coordinating Nike Elite socks, & sneakers. Since all his classes/routes are indoors, except PE on occasion, he often leaves the hoodie in his centrally-located locker (although sometimes forgetting to transfer it to his backpack, so it's left overnight - hence the reason for owning numerous hoodies). I especially recommend the hoodie as an everyday option for your daughter, since it wouldn't be bulky & she could keep up with it hands-free by tying the sleeves around her waist!

The only jacket/coat my teens will wear is the NorthFace Denali fleece.

In high school the in thing were Columbia jackets--the combination ones that were a light outer jacket and fleece inner jacket that you could zip together and wear skiing. Bonus cool points if you had a lift ticket hanging from your zipper. I still have mine. I bought a men's medium in Navy. I just prefer more girlie type light peacoats and blazers now. Surprisingly Victoria Secret has some really cool lightweight jackets and coats. I also have a few hoodies. I've always been warm blooded. People stop me all the time asking me where my coat is. I'm having hot flashes--again--leave me alone! Yes, the kids keep their skiing ticket on their jacket. Drives me crazy! They laugh when I wear something new and forget a tag. but they pretty much do the same thing with the ski tag.

Ooh, the other very popular jackets are the Uniqlo thin down jackets like this: Are those coats pretty warm? I went to their website and they have a longer version with a hood. I need a new coat and since this is supposed to be a hell of a winter in Michigan I am considering it. Yes. I have one. I love it. They are surprisingly warm.

My daughter has a jacket from Aeropostale that she loves. She'd wear it year round if I let her!

My teen girls like Columbia fleece or North Face jackets. Light weight, yet soft and warm.

North Face fuzzy jacket for DD14 (8th grade), DS15 (freshman) wears shorts and hoodies, even in the worst weather. We tease that he has anti-freeze in his blood! He prefers Hollister hoodies and has one that has Sherpa lining for the coldest days. Hollister is still very in with the teen boys here. DD also just asked for a wool pea coat...also a very popular option for girls.
