I can't remember who she was, but I remember being so impressed with her! She gave us progress reports throughout the year. If you are still around please chime in and share an update of what happened since your no spend year.
This coming year would be a great year to try to achieve the same goal. These days my shopping is more entertainment based vs. need based anyways. DH and I also have some big financial events happening in 2020 (a HS graduation, 2 kids will be in college, oldest child getting married) so it would be wise to curb our extracurricular spending. The more I think about it the more it feels like a good choice to make and not like a punishment. And less shopping just makes sense after all the decluttering of our home.

I don't remember who it was, but I was just thinking I need to go on a freeze. I've been very spendy lately.

I should, ... but I already know I won't. I'm a sucker for the pretty papers.

I should, ... but I already know I won't. I'm a sucker for the pretty papers. That would be me and stamps. I'm quitting my AE subs. I'll keep the KP main sub, but I've already tried to cut back on buying stuff unless it is on sale before I use my subscriber discount. I don't want to buy anything next year, except for KP stamps, and possibly any AE travel stuff. I may buy the AE SBTM sets when they are on sale, but that's it! My only other exception is for my European river cruise next fall, if I see the perfect paper or embellishments.

I remember that thread but cannot remember the pea’s name I have to be very strict with myself to only buy things I will actually use and not just things I like-especially stamps......

Urban legend! Just kidding - I know most of us scrappers would not make a year. amom23 I understand what you are saying about shopping being entertainment based, not need based. DH and I are both retired now. I have purged at least 25% of our household belongings. I don't want to bring in things just because they are cute or a good deal. I am much more thoughtful about spending these days.

I have been on a “spending freeze” the past 2 months. I’m trying to sue down my stash. I actually love my stash. I have spent about $40 on stuff for December daily and my Disney trip. And I’m allowing myself Black Friday purchases. Then I’m back on. I would love to track this closer in the new year and actually commit to reducing it.

I always feel conflicted. I am trying to be mindful about what I spend and bringing more stuff in the house to manage (scrappy or otherwise), but I also want to support the industry and feel lucky that I can support it. I am thinking I need to pause my CT sub though because I have 3 months unopened on my desk right now. I'd really like to work through some of the classes I've purchased and not finished (or even started). I think that could help me work through my backlog of stash. I'm also half considering going full digital next year and then doing a mini album or some sort of journal to play in with physical product. I haven't decided what to do. I'm still morning that PL has stopped production and at the same time feel a bit excited to do something else. I've done traditional 12x12 PL for the last 6 years.

When I first read this thread, I thought that is really what I need to do, but after trying to work on a layout, I had a realization that having a huge stash does not mean you will always have what you need.
I need to stop Tuesday Morning shopping for a year, and just buy the specific things I need for whatever layout that I am working on. My stash has increased dramatically because of Tuesday Morning shopping, but while those papers work well for cards, they do not necessarily work well for my layouts.
I loved living near a good LSS. It closed. Then I moved to an area where the nearest LSS is a good 40 minute drive.
I compensated by shopping at Tuesday Morning and buying pretty papers, but I still seem to lack the papers I need when working on a layout. When I lived near the LSS, I bought papers for whatever layout I was working on. I had a decent stash, but now it’s just bigger, not necessarily better.

I was thinking about her a while back! If it's the same woman, it seems like she committed to making 100 layouts before buying anything....and she'd share the layousts as she made them. I thought it was a wonderful idea. If you're itching to get something new, scrap faster, lol!

I buy papers in my 'style' when I see them because they come and go so quickly from the store, but honestly, I could create a LOT of layouts with the papers I have already. And yeah, anything that would get me to create more often would be a good thing!

I totally remember that thread. I think maybe she was putting money toward working on her house?
I've been very refrigerated this year. I plan on continuing it this year.
I've used down so much of my stash by not buying, and still scrapping. But with that comes being out of everything.
Right now my shopping list includes:
Cardstock: white, black, kraft, navy, red
enamel dots: neutrals, primary colors
Trimmer blades
Scotch double sided tape
I'm going to try to only use what i have for as long as i can.

I took a break from scrapbooking for about 4 years and since I started back again it's like I am making up for lost time buying. I keep saying "just one more order and I will have everything I need". I am a kitchen table scrapbooker so my stash is busting out all over, plus we have some family things I need to save money for so I plan on a spending freeze (or at least refrigeration) starting in December (HA I am keeping myself open for Black Friday sales).

I thought it was a wonderful idea. If you're itching to get something new, scrap faster, lol! I remember the 100 layout goal, too. I remember her scrapping layouts without pictures and I've never been one to do that but she said she would definitely find pictures to match. I wonder if she reached her goal. She sure seemed determined. I've tried freezing my spending and then I walk in my front door with new stuff and then remember - oops! I was supposed to be frozen. However, I will say that I'm much more careful about what I buy. I only buy what I know I will use. I don't buy things that I just think are cute. They sit unused and it's a waste of money and storage space and then I end up purging them. So being more selective is the answer for me.

I definitely couldn't do a NO spend year, not without quitting crafting completely! But even with my small stash I know I have more than I need of some things.
I have way more ideas than I have time or energy, and buying new things just gives me more ideas. Of course there are some things I buy that inspire me and help me make better use of the supplies I already have. But I've been discovering that some of the things I've added to my stash aren't very helpful. Trying to evaluate and learn from my mistakes.
I'd like to buy things specifically for a project and use them up and then move onto the next thing. If I lived closer to the store it would be easier to do that. But since it takes me a while to get to the store and back I feel like I need to stock up a little bit. I hate being on a roll with a project and then realizing I've run out of cardstock. But I don't want to buy a huge assortment of cardstock and then find that I STILL don't have what I need...

I quit two of my monthly subs and need to cancel my citrus twist too I just opened several months myself. I’ve been doing fairly well but then it’s Christmas card time and I’m a sucker for all things Christmas

I will definitely slow down next year. I'm buying all the cute xmas stamps and dies now to make next years Christmas cards. I'm stocking up on blades for my trimmer and ATG tape with all this 50% off coupons. Trying to diced if I need more neenah paper, my friend can get it really cheap ($25/250 sheets)for now. I'm a TM junkie 🤣🥴😊 I just can't stop going in there and buy stuff I don't need.

Right?!?!😀 I have puce cardstock, and slime green cardstock, but nary a navy sheet to find!😁 If M's has the $2/pack sale on cardstock anytime soon, i might pick up the basic colors i need. I also might pick up a ream of basic white cardstock from Wal-Mart. I can make-do without a lot of things, but paper isn't really one of them.

I've tried freezing my spending and then I walk in my front door with new stuff and then remember - oops! I was supposed to be frozen. ^^^ this is me, too... I think "I should really stop shopping" and then I'll see a TM haul, or someone will post about a really good sale at M's... and my resolve (such as it is) goes right out the window. I *like* to think I shop with more intention, buying things I know are more *my style* than just what's cute-- but I do still get sucked in by a 'buy 1 get 2 free' advertisement, lol! I must say, though- I will calculate the price per sheet when I'm looking at those paper pad sales, and when you consider how expensive it is to buy one piece of 'real' SB paper, the hot buy paper pad 'per sheet' prices are REALLY attractive and usually tip the balance for me. (even subtracting a 'loss' factor for the pieces I KNOW I will not use.)
