My mom brought up this idea and to tell you the truth, it sounds awesome. Less clean up for us.
What would you think of paper plates for Thanksgiving?

That’s what we use! In fact, paper goods are my specialty!!! We get the heavy duty ones. My mom and aunts decided after grandma died, that they wanted to be part of the gathering, rather than doing dishes afterward. Works out great!

As long as they are the thicker paper plates that can hold the weight of all the food, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

We always use the good china. Because...when else would we? !LOL We do use paper for leftovers, and other meals during the wk though.

I don't mind paper plates for dessert, but really hate eating hot food off one, so don't use them at home. And I don't mind doing the dishes.
There are so many pretty options out there, if your family is on board with the idea, go for it.

I've used the fancier hard plastic plates that can be put in the recycle bin for big gatherings and they work great.

Nope.
It’s a holiday. It should be special. Use the good china.
Paper plates are tacky.

It wouldn't bother me at all! I feel very positively towards anything that results in less clean up! I'd rather have the extra time with loved ones than be in the kitchen dealing with dishes.

China. It's a special day, so nice dinner plates are a must in my book.

My stepmom buys the ones that are more plastic than paper--those work great for our family meals. I wouldn't be opposed to paper plates for a holiday meal, but they would have to be pretty sturdy.

We usually have 45 to 55 people for Thanksgiving. I've never used anything other than paper plates for the holiday.

I support you! We host 35+ people at our house for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's the busiest time of year at my workplace, so I generally work late the night before, get up early and start cooking, hope I don't get called in to work, then go right back to the grind next morning. No way I'm going to spend what little time I have left after people leave to wash all of that china. Nope, we use Chinet and it hasn't stopped anyone from attending.
Aesthetically, I would never choose paper plates nor would I choose to have 35+ guests, but alas. Priorities.

I just hate to use single use paper products anytime. They are convenient, but so bad for the environment. I'd use real dishes.

Do what ever works best for you. I wish I could sometimes. I hate washing dishes when i could be relaxing with my family. We are a very casual family. I don’t think anyone would care.

We did last year and everyone agreed it was great! So great in fact we did it again for Christmas. Oh and we had a buffet line vs. formal sit down. Oh the horror LOL! There are so many fun and festive designs out in the retail world these days so obviously not everyone thinks it's tacky.

We use the divided tray style ones. I don't like my food to touch. I also hate doing dishes! LOL If you are good with it then DO it! We also drink out of orange solo cups with our names sharpied on them! LOL
I do other things fancy … My girls arrange flowers into centerpieces for the tables and we have taper candles. That all goes great with paper plates! LOL
Enjoy your holiday!

My group is small, so that frames my decision I suppose. I would not use them. I also do not use them on a regular basis for environmental reasons. But...I do not think any less of anyone else who wants to use them. Whatever you and your family decides is right for you-go for it!

Paper plates and disposable or compost able silverware. Real cups maybe, otherwise, red solo all the way!

I say yes if the guest count is anything over 8-12. We are 25 - 35+ so it is a YES in our gathering. For our family using the good china isn't what is special about Thanksgiving...it is being with family (and /or friends). I say do what works for your family and I certainly wouldn't call it tacky as some do.

We use paper plates for Thanksgiving because I don't have Fall china. I do use the sterling silver and crystal. I have Christmas China and my good dishes are not Fall looking at all. One day, I will get one more set of dishes, I really like Johnson Bros and am constantly scouring Goodwill for something that I might like.

My mom's 1972 wedding china was in then-stylish shades of orange, brown and gold and the pattern looks a bit like turkey feathers. It became our family's Thanksgiving china at some point during my growing up years and she had different china for Christmas and Easter.
I inherited it when she passed away and I use it every year at Thanksgiving. Can't bear to give it away or stop using it. So no paper plates for us.
But I'm not categorically opposed to paper if you don't have some sentimental plates you want to use. Especially if you have a large crowd. Get the heavy chinet ones and go for it.

Anyone who votes no, volunteers to do the dishes! I do feel bad about the waste and environmental impact, but not as bad as I feel about standing over hot soapy water scrubbing dishes.

I have no issues with it. I’d get the more sturdy ones though so it holds food better.

We have used paper plates for as long as I can remember (grandma and then mom). We wipe them down and put them in the recycling bin!
I do remember Christmas Eve being on my grandma's fine china but then she eventually moved to paper plates.

We're having about 30 people, so love the idea of paper plates. We don't have enough china even if we used all my china and my daughter's china. The important part for me is that we will all be together--It is going to be a great time together.

I host every year and I just can’t do it. It’s so wasteful and it just feels wrong. Cook all day to eat your food off garbage? Nah... not for me. Special occasions are when you break out the nice plates.
