I am sad to read this. (but glad it was not you or your DH)
Animals endure so much pain before they tell us. My sympathy to you and your DH.

I’m so sorry ((hugs))
It’s been my experience that cats are really good at hiding discomfort and pain, so don’t be too hard on yourself. One of our cats was stage 4 kidney failure and the only sign we noticed was that she started cuddling with us... she was 15 and had never been cuddly.

Thank you SO much for your words & for the Peas here whom have lost their furbabies to cancer, I am SO very sorry!!!!!!!!
Felix is a very different kind of pet. He really acts more like a baby or toddler. We are with him every single day since we're both going through our own medical "journeys". He brings us such joy, every single day. We have thousands of pics of him and he's just the center of our little world, making us so very happy!! I know it's because we are going through so much that the joy he brings is even that much more special........
We have 4 other cats, but this one? He's just our baby....... and he acts like a kitten, so this will be extremely hard!!
DH had to take a xanax last night. He's very upset about it. We're talking about possibly filing for bankruptcy because our medical bills and now this $1700 bill is just too much for 2 disabled people who can't work....... Sad prospect.
Even worse, I spoke to DS29 last night. Felix is his "animal spirit". He adores him so much that when he moved back to NY 18 mos ago, he couldn't even bear to have me speak about Felix to him!!!!!!!! He was on drugs in the past (clean for over 6 years), but this instantly made him despondent, so now he's my biggest worry! He's going to a meeting today and he has friends (I talked to a few last night), but his words just melted my heart. He said, "I already lost one brother, and now I'm going to lose another???" His best friend died 2 years ago from a supposed overdose while he was in a drug rehab place. We still don't know the details, but his death was an awful thing to bear. DS was so close to this friend, and Felix was a bright spot in his path to sobriety, so it hurts a lot. All I could do is to make sure he gets help and to keep talking to him.
Losing a beloved pet is bad enough. We've been through it countless times. It's never forgotten. But going through your own medical issues/cancer/sobriety and having a furbaby who is such a huge part of your life, is that much more unbearable. We're all strong and I'm sure we'll endure whatever we have to face in the upcoming weeks, but a chunk of my heart is already very hurt over this.........
Thank you again!! P.S.: GOOD NEWS: Felix did well overnight and he's responding to the IV antibiotics and catheter, and he could possibly come home tonight vs. Monday morning. I set up an appt with his regular vet for Monday just to go over everything.... We'll take it from there.

I’m so sorry! No pet death is ever easy. The premature ones are awfully heartbreaking though. We expect so many more years with them.
((((Hugs))))

That’s great he’s responding well to treatment! Sending hugs to all of you—nine is too young, but hopefully his youthfulness works to his advantage for healing!

I'm so sorry. My best friend just lost her cat at age 10. Totally fine one day, stopped eating and acted lethargic the next. Took her to the emergency vet that night. End stage kidney failure. They estimated only days left. My friend put her to sleep the next day. So yes, it's not uncommon and it's just awful.

My daughter and son in law had to have their cat put down for urinary crystals and being blocked up constantly. At first they thought they had it under control, but it came back and after him spending a week at the vet and multiple tests and such he was able to come home, only to have to go back that same afternoon.Vet said he was going to likely have to be cath'd frequently and meds etc etc the rest of his life and likely be miserable, they'd tried everything else.. he was less than 2 years old. More common in males cats, which they say they'll never choose a male cat again because of what they went through with Rigs. He didn't have tumors spread around though sorry about your kitty.

Oh No! I am so sorry. They are not just pets, they are our kids. I hope Felix can make a recovery and your time with him is lengthened. So heartbreaking! You've been through too much already.

UPDATE: Sunday, 11/24: They kept him overnight again, to be safe. His urine was pink (not totally clear) so they kept the cath in. They'll be taking it out in a bit and then watching him to see if he could come home today.
AGAIN, we've lost so many special pets, but this is different because he is the bright spot in our lives with all that we're enduring........ So this is tough.
Another thing: I don't want to leave the house for a MINUTE once he comes home if he only has a few days/weeks left. I'm so afraid that he'll be in distress and DD will be left here with him when I have to go to Tampa for my follow up surgical appt, or go with DH for his tumor removal surgery on the 5th. My mind is spinning. I don't want to leave her here if he passes...
CRAP: UPDATE 10;54AM : He took a turn for the worse. Needs a transfusion, but his mass is growing quickly so this would be a temporary fix. The vets strongly believe we should let him go. we're on our way now. I'm beyond devastated.
