I want a black border around this sentiment so that it looks like a framed print (for lack of a better description) and have it cut a simple rectangle around the whole design. The photo below is of the sentiment cut out and matted with black cardstock. I do NOT want to have to matte these. I want it all one piece. I KNOW this is something simple but I've tried adding the sentiment in a rectangle shape after I've made it (and grouped it) but I feel like this might have something to do with compound paths and all that? It's driving me bonkers and I've spent way too much time on it! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! (Sorry for the crappy pics. Crappy lighting and raining out)

So you want to print it as one solid design with the black frame border, then just cut around the outside of the black frame border?

... If that is what you are wanting to do..
The easiest way to get it to have the black border, but to only have it cut around the outside black edge would be to 1. Draw a rectangle the size you want the finished design to be. 2. Fill this with black. 3. Draw another rectangle that is smaller that will go over the top of the black - fill this with white - size it to make your black frame... Go to the SEND panel and set this one to NO CUT. Use the CENTER tool to center it and group them together. 4. Add the text part - if this is set to cut - go in to the SEND panel and set this to NO CUT also. Center.
I would do one this way. Have it sized and centered. Check your cut lines in the SEND panel. If is all good - replicate to fill your page - I use the duplicate row and duplicate column feature to set them packed together so I can get as many as I can on a page.
Set up your registration marks for Print & Cut and you should be good to go!

Hi Nicole- I can think of a way, but not sure if it will work. Is this one large png sheet or individual images? Edit: It looks like iowgirl probably can help you more than I can!
