Thank you, sarahsprettypapers and Skellinton! The fact that this is a 50th anniversary for WDW, too, has made it extra special. I’m not sure yet if the Dolphin will get the specialty entertainment/Disney characters, but I hope we do! The Dolphin is on Disney property but isn’t an official Disney hotel, so we’ll find out. We extended our stay till Tuesday a.m., although we’ll need to check out on Saturday morning and check back in to a different room that evening. Skellinton, the DAS pass is not limited to just autism/sensory issues, but I don’t know everything that qualifies. I have mobility issues, but we didn’t apply for it because of that. We got DAS because my DH will never fully recover from the results of the heart attack that he had 18 months ago. It’s not just mobility issues for him. This trip is as much a celebration that he survived against all odds, but also that he has recovered enough to take a trip like this, even though we needed extra rest days. Disney approved his getting the DAS. We have seen some young families taking advantage of DAS. Our grandkids are autistic, and they got DAS prior to their trip. They are the ones who told us about DAS and that we should request it. We have seen many in wheelchairs and on mobility scooters like us, who are using DAS. I don’t know all the qualifiers, but I recommend calling Disney to at least ask about it.

I wasn’t planning to post until we got back, but we arrived in Orlando last Wednesday (Sep. 21) and checked into the Dolphin. DH and I are celebrating 50 years since our first date. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed our time in Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, and Epcot. DH having the DAS has been really helpful. We were supposed to go to Magic Kingdom tomorrow, but WDW is closed tomorrow and Thursday., and we are hunkered down in our hotel, hoping for the best. Disney almost never closes WDW, so you know they expect things to be bad. DH and I are grateful to be staying where we are. We met a few of the hurricane evacuees at dinner in the hotel tonight. Originally, no one expected Orlando to take such a direct hit. The hurricane was supposed to go further north before making landfall.
I don’t think I would plan a Disney trip during hurricane season again, but at least we got trip insurance.

I tend to use it every time, even if it’s just for the title, but I often use it for more than that.
In addition to titles, which is the main reason that I bought my first cutter, I cut embellishments with it for many of my layouts. I also use it for cutting the outlines of stamps when I don’t have the matching dies (then do the cut first stamp second method). I keep mine out and ready to use all lf the time, which makes it a lot easier to use consistently.

When I lived in No. VA, my friends and I went to GASC Chantilly for years. Then they just stopped coming. Scrapbook Expo did fill the void, but we had at least a year of no conventions. I really missed them, but at least I lived near (and worked for) a good LSS. No LSS near me now. Not that I need more scrapbooking stuff, but do you happen to know if that scrapbook store in northern VA still exists? The LSS that I was referring to was Scrapbooks Plus, which closed its doors at least 6 to 7 years ago. However, Goldenshill, is in Northern Virginia, and last I heard, was still open. Goldenshill is/was a paper arts store, more than the typical LSS, but it is an excellent store and carries many products that scrapbookers love.

After seeing an adorable cowboy gnome card by grammadee, I couldn’t resist getting the basic gnome dies, as well as the cowboy add ons. I already have and love all the Queen & Co. Foundation dies, which are also card layering dies, so I resisted the layering dies by Jaded Blossom. They do have some really nice things!

They dropped Denver off of their list last year and then said that they couldn't find a location. Couldn't find a location in Denver? Pshaw. I am sure they couldn't find a cheap location. Hope they add it back. When I lived in No. VA, my friends and I went to GASC Chantilly for years. Then they just stopped coming. Have fun cropping with your friend, KikiPea, whether or not your favorite vendor is there! When I lived back in No. VA, my scrappy friends and I went together for the shopping, but since moving to Texas, I go solo and still only to shop. The few scrappy friends I found here don’t go to the conventions.

…Wheelchair accessible rooms have bathtubs in them. Not roll in showers, a bathtub. Frankly, I don't think they should label it a wheelchair accessible room if it doesn't have a roll in shower, but there you are. I asked my very sweet and patient travel agent to try to book me a roll in shower room. They were not able to. My friend's sister recently became a Disney planner person and so I was gripping to my friend. She called her sister. Her sister was able to somehow book the roll in shower room that we wanted at the Caribbean. …I know the planners feelings are hurt and she is annoyed with me and I feel awful about it. She is the same planner that has been with me through all my other canceled trips and I feel terrible. …Basically, I don't understand why Disney labels a room wheelchair accessible when it has a bathtub only situation. Am I wrong in that? My DH is disabled due to a heart attack, has a mobility scooter, and uses a cane for very short distances, so we went through something similar, although we lucked out with getting a shower with a small lip to step over (Dolphin Hotel). You are not wrong on the disability issue, but there are not very many handicapped rooms, and I think it is ridiculous for any handicapped rooms to have tubs, not roll in showers. I’m guessing that the travel agent neglected to request the roll in shower, probably assuming that wheelchair accessible meant there would be a roll in shower. If she has been doing this for awhile, she should have known to request it specifically. DH got DAS, and it is for anyone who is disabled and cannot stand in lines a long time. If she gets DAS, she probably won’t need Genie Plus. With DAS, you arrive, and get a time window to come back, instead of waiting in line. I don’t know how well you can coordinate with Genie Plus, though. (We haven’t gone on our trip yet, although it’s coming up soon) You can arrange for DAS between 2 to 30 days before your trip. If you can’t do it at least 48 hours ahead of time, you have to take time to do it at the park when you arrive. How nice that your mom can go with you, though!

Thanks, CardBoxer. I know that Paper Wizard has incredibly detailed laser cut titles and page kits, and plenty of them are Disney themed. Unfortunately, they are not attending the Expo in October, but I could purchase online from them. It will cost more online, though, because when buying at convention, you can usually get a discount. I have seen Disney inspired page kits from other vendors, probably including those on that 2019 list, but most of them seemed to offer designs that I can easily create on my own, and which just didn’t appeal to me as much as those from Paper Wizard, but maybe someone at the Expo will surprise me. This discussion has helped me realize that I do want to go. I haven’t left a convention empty handed yet, so it will hopefully be worth attending this one, whether or not I find anything for scrapping Disney pictures.

I don’t blame you for being upset, riversong1963. I wouldn’t want to order online from a company who did that, either. I will not be shipping anything, fortunately, but I have never seen those particular Disney inspired dies anywhere else. They may be out of stock still, but I won’t be ordering anything from them online. They don’t show the Disney dies on their website, anyway, so they may not carry them anymore. There are a lot of companies that will ship promptly. To have such delays in shipping is inexcusable.

I think the fault for this is on the Designer. They are the ones responsible for submitting new designs. Removing a couple of flourishes isn’t releasing a new design IMO, although it will bring an older design forward. I feel like it’s a bit dishonest, and customers won’t be happy if they realize they essentially bought the same design as one they already had.

I was browsing the Silhouette Design Store just a few minutes ago and saw a file that I really liked. It said, “Broom Parking Only,” and was by Jillibean Soup. I have downloaded that phrase before, so I thought I should look at my Silhouette library to see how similar it was to any other that might be similar. I found the same one in my library. But the one I had seen on the Silhouette site was supposed to be new. I checked the file numbers. Different numbers. Then I realized that the one in my library had simple flourishes on the side, while the “new” file that was essentially identical didn’t have the flourishes. Those flourishes could easily be removed with a couple of mouse clicks (and obviously were) and they would be the same design.
I used to design cutting files for a different company. I know that there is pressure to keep churning out new files all the time, but this tactic has the potential for cheating customers. I have accidentally bought files that were the same, or nearly identical. They also had different numbers. I wasn’t happy, but now I understand how it happened. If it has a different number, your software assumes it is a different design, and you can end up accidentally paying for duplicates.
With my subscription, I pay about 8 cents per design, so it’s not worth complaining about to me, but for those of you who use credits or pay full price, you might want to double check before purchasing, to make sure you aren’t buying a duplicate design.

I’ll definitely stop by the Rubbernecker booth, then, CardBoxer. I didn’t look that closely at their booth at GASC, but I was looking for Disney related items. That is why I was hoping that Paper Wizard would be at Scrapbook Expo. I’ll still be on the hunt for Disney, but I’ll browse a bit more carefully for non-Disney items this time.

You should also check the facebook page for the show you want to attend. …I still found plenty of things of interest at the smaller vendor show, I actually kind of liked it more. In the past it was always so jam packed and I never did make n takes bcz of lines. Good advice. I hadn’t thought to check their Facebook page. Tall Mouse is supposed to be there. I’m going to call them to find out if they will be bringing what I am looking for, since they don’t show those products on their website. Even if they don’t, I am thinking that I may go, just to see what the unknown companies have to offer.

There are four more S&SB Expo shows this year, including the one going on now, and the website shows the exhibitors for them. scrapbookexpo.com/2022-expo-show-list/Select your show, scroll down a bit and select “Exhibitors and Make and Takes,” and then “Exhibitors.” THANK YOU!!! CardBoxer, I had looked multiple times but missed that link.

I'd be highly dubious about going to a trade show that didn't have a vendor list. That's like buying movie tickets without the cinema telling you what's playing! Since you have your sights set on specific vendors, giving them a call or an e-mail seems like the best path forward. No doubt they'll be happy to let you know if they're attending or not. I love how you phrased that, and it’s a valid point. In the past, I have found some vendors that I loved, but which I’d never heard of before and probably would never have ever found otherwise. It’s no guarantee, though, that this show would be worth the entrance fee. I went to GASC in June, and the only vendors I bought from were a few established ones. I definitely need to call them and find out if they will be there.

They are lovely, but just the cost of those stencils would add up pretty fast. I like the concept, but my (occasional) frugal tendencies are kicking in.
I already have far too many Christmas stamps that are just as lovely. I think I will just scan stamped images for making matching stencils and/or die cuts for the stamps I already own.
If I didn’t have my Cameo, I’d be more tempted.

Sometimes, part of a design is so small that the mat just doesn’t hold it. When that happens, I usually do one of two things.
Use an ultra sticky brand new mat. I like the Nicapa mats that I order from Amazon, and they are incredibly sticky at first, more than I remember the Silhouette mats being.
However……sometimes those little bits still don’t stick, even to a very sticky mat. When that happens, sometimes I will resort to doing a copy and paste of the little bits that keep getting lost, till I have a bunch of duplicates. Chances are that there will be at least some that manage to survive the cutting and weeding process. I use fine tweezers to carefully take those duplicates and replace the lost bits, before heat pressing. I hope that makes sense.
Another option is to thicken the dashes a tiny bit with the offset function (remove the original smaller dashes before cutting).
I have seen some designs like you describe. I wondered how well they would actually cut.

scrapnnana I see on the Stamp & Scrapbook Expo main site there is button for Exhibitors & Make and Takes. That is where the vendors are listed. But I know that many vendors have not renewed with Expo because of how they handled (rather did not) refunds when the pandemic started. I've also seen some vendors transition to virtual shows with other companies or on their own and not travel anymore at all. I wondered if the 2020 Expo fiasco had something to do with the (mostly) unknown vendors doing Make & Takes. Tall Mouse said (at GASC) they were planning to be at the Expo here in October, but I can’t tell if that is actually the case. They had some fun things that were out of stock, and I would totally go to shop at their booth if they’ll be there, because they don’t show everything on their website. I was going to try to call them today, but ran out of time.

I am wondering if vendors have not committed yet? Not sure how much time they have to do that. I would email-I think we are going to see more and more of this unfortunately. Even the last one I went to (pre covid) felt tiny. The number of vendors at conventions definitely seems to keep shrinking.

I started scrapbooking when I had been married for 21 years and had 5 kids. I knew that I would never get caught up, especially since scrapbooking made me realize that I should have been taking more photos all along.
Scrapbooking is mostly a craft/hobby for me. I scrapbook the photos that I have ideas for. I don’t scrap in any particular order, although I do sort the finished pages by timeline.
A lot of family and personal challenges have gotten me even more behind, so I am trying to focus on the photos that I want to scrapbook most, especially since I have done far less scrapbooking in recent years.
I have tried digital. Pocket pages just don’t appeal to me. I take a ton of photos, so I prefer 12x12, because it allows me to put more photos on a page and more space for each layout. I scrapbook only the best of them. I started with 12x12, dabbled in digital, but went right back to 12x12. Letter sized is just too small for me.

There is an event coming up in my area. Until June of this year, I hadn’t been to any in a few years, and I had missed going. In the past, they listed the vendors. I assume those coming to do workshops will also have a booth, but usually there are booths that don’t do workshops, too. I went to GASC, and it was small. I still managed to spend money, of course, but I was hoping that one particular booth would be at the Expo, and if they are coming, they aren’t doing any workshops. Part of me suspects if the Expo has intentionally left out the vendor list because it’s a small show, and they don’t want customers to see just how small. If there are at least two particular vendors there, I will go, but it’s frustrating that there is no vendor list that I can see, to make sure it’s worth my time as well as the entrance fee. This fall is a crazy busy time, and I’m working around a trip to WDW, among other things.
What do you think of the missing vendor list? Would you go anyway? I will probably email them to ask if the two companies I am most interested in are coming, but I think this approach might backfire. It makes me feel like it probably isn’t worth my time. Thoughts, please?

At the time he was in college (pre-COVID), Disneyland got more foot traffic than WDW. He said that bringing Mando and Grogu to Disneyland and not WDW suggests that Disneyland California lost customers and are adding incentives to bring customers back to that park. …Disneyland will always be a locals park there's no doubt about that. It will never be the vacation destination Disney World is but I can definitely see the higher ups trying to do something to get more people who don't normally come here to visit and spend $$$$$$$$$. Our DD and her DH are at DL right now, and they are definitely not local. Their decision to go had nothing to do with higher ups decisions, though. They couldn’t afford to go to WDW due to multiple factors. If we lived near either of the US Disney parks, we would definitely have annual passes. I’m guessing a lot of locals have the annual passes, which Disney probably doesn’t make as money from. Once they get them to the park, they are hoping they spend money on food, souvenirs, etc., but I don’t doubt that the bigger bucks come from the out-of-state or at least not-so-local fans. The only time DH and I went to DL was for our honeymoon, but we lived closer to DL then.

If they are more solid instead of outlines, you can use markers on them, but I’m not sure what type markers work well. However, since you say you are going to unmount them, you might consider using a craft knife to cut apart the flower from the stem/leaves and turn it into two separate stamps.
At the very least, unmounting them will make them easier to use, even if you don’t cut the flower and leaves apart.

Color the stamp with markers.
OR you could remove the stamp from the wood block and turn it into a peel and stick stamp, so you can use a stamp platform. Depending on the stamp, you can use small inkpads (cat eye shaped stamp pads work best for this), ink the stem with green, stamp it, clean it, then ink the flower part.
I converted all my wood mounted rubber stamos before we moved in order to cut down on the weight. The wood blocks really added up (I have been collecting stamps for years). I now use those stamps more since I can use them with my platform.
