I wore one for the first time today. When I made some for DD she didn't like the ear elastics so I made the ties like the video patter posted. I used one today for the store and the top tie kept falling down the back of my head. For trips to the store I don't mind using hair clips (which, of course, I didn't have today) but I wonder if my head is suited better to ear elastics. I'm going to make the next ones with the casing on the side so that either type of tie can be used (I can put elastic through and knot it for temporary use).

I don't like the ties because I end up tying my hair into it. And I don't like the elastics, because it pulls on my ears. We printed some of the elastic holders that lie at the back of your head the elastic catches on, but I haven't tried it out because I haven't been going out and thus, not needing masks.

Elastic over the ears. The ties slip.

The elastic has been preferred by everyone that I've made masks for.

I prefer the elastics. I think I'd feel differently, maybe, if I had a ponytail to anchor the ties to, but my hair is short.

For short term use, ear loops are fine IF they fit correctly. For all day wear when I’m working a 12+ hour nursing shift, I prefer ties but take whatever the hospital has that day.

Those of you with the falling down ties, where do you put your top tie? That’s the kind that fit DH best, and he ties the top tie (tight) on the crown of his head and it doesn’t fall down. He wears it all day long with no issues, only taking it off to eat lunch and put a fresh one on.

Elastic. My current masks have that tshirt stretchy type of tie that goes around the ears.

I’ve been putting my hair into a ponytail for several months now when I go out. It keeps my hair off my face and I’m not brushing it out of the way. Now that masks are mandatory, it anchors my mask ties, too. My ears hurt if I wear my glasses too long, so I made all my masks with ties.

I was considering giving the t-shirt material (for around the ears) a try being that I can find t-shirt yarn for sale. Does this not work well or doesn't hold up in the wash?

I prefer elastic. DH prefers ties. My stepdaughter, an educator who has a weekend cashier job, had to wear one all day for work last weekend and she used the one I'd made her with ties (I sent one of each). She liked the ties but said any mask gets tiresome to wear all day.

I have an N95 mask that my husband uses in the spring when working on the yard. My hair is a mess with it on, but it's not like I will be talking to anyone in the store, so I don't care. My husband uses a tie mask and he says it's good.

I made some with ties. I could not get the ties to stay tight on my head.
I have some with elastic and found that they slide off my ears. So, I "thread" the earpiece of my glasses through the elastic and then it stays on my ears.
I like the elastic best.
But, WHY does one's nose need a tissue the minute I put the mask on?

I prefer elastic BUT around my head like hair ties. I have it go up to the top of my head but I wear a ball cap or visor to help keep it in place without sliding around. I can't stand the elastic around the ears for a full 8 hours at work. I'm miserable enough wearing the mask without making my ears hurt too.

Mine has held up well. I hand wash our masks so they don’t get overstretched. I soak them in hot soapy water for about 20 minutes, pat them dry and then hang them clipped up by the mask part and not the elastic so they don’t stretch out.

I think my ears are weirdly placed on my head, LOL. If I tie the top tie over my ears, it pulls the top edge of the mask up into my eyes. Yesterday when I made my Target run I tied the top tie behind my head but under my ears, and the bottom tie up by the top of my head. It was SO much better that way and it never slipped into my eyes once.
I can’t wear headbands for that same reason, where the headband should go to hold my hair back is right where my ears are. So weird.

Ties. I tie the top tie up high on back of head and it hasn't slipped.

Definitely the elastic over the ears. Easy on/off. no slipping.

i like the elastic, easier to put on and take off, but I wear hearing aids and the elastic pulls them out of my ears. I have to use the ties.

I used Patter's tutorial with the ties made from twill tape. They don't slip at all.

I initially thought you were asking what we decorated our masks with. I must be tired. I prefer elastic but I can’t wear it on my ears because it interferes with my hearing aids. I don’t like ties. I saw a mask with a Tie that has a loop on 5he bottom and ties on the top. I liked the idea so I made it with elastic and I like it.

Okay, first, which pattern did you make? The one with one long tie that you tie or the one where you tie two ties? I changed my pattern, and we have been asked to make 1,000 masks for a local hospital. They have approved the one my team and I are making. I 100%+++++ prefer ties. The elastics are awful on my ears. Nothing fits right, and it hurts within 5 minutes and then there are major gaps in the mask. Everyone that has made the one we are making loves the fit. It's so very adjustable. And I have been sharing this photo from M.A.S.H. Look at how differently everyone ties the ties. It's all about finding the right fit for you.

Ties. And it is better if the ties are thicker. I made some with 1/4 twill tape and that is too thin and slippery, harder to tie tight enough. Folded over bias tape workers well.
what helps dh, who wears glasses, is a pocket on the backside so he can thread a folded over pipe cleaner in to keep more fitted to his face and keep his glasses from fogging up.

I prefer to tie mine like we do at the hospital, but I can't find anyone who's making them that way. I have several different types of elastic ones...one tends to cause the mask to slip down my nose after awhile, and the other is just too big in general. I was thinking of finding something to tie to the elastic.... then the elastic could go behind my ears but the tie would pull the mask around my face properly. I haven't experimented with that yet because I don't know what I would use for the ties. ugh

This works without pleats on the side? That would much quicker.
