I’m watching the news right now, and of course the virus and it effects are still dominant, understandably so. Other than politics and the fall election, what other things do you think would be getting attention in the news right now if not for the virus?

Stupid shit trump stays. Just like always. 🤪
ETA: I literally have no idea of what else is happening in the world other than Covid. Maybe they would be paying more attention to the man who was recently killed by the white guys? Or maybe they would be covering the guy who was involuntarily held by neighborhood white people? I don’t know.

The Arbery murder is already getting significant press coverage but would likely be getting more coverage.
We would be seeing those clips of graduation speeches by famous people at college graduations.

Well, we'd have sports... NHL playoffs, NBA playoffs, NWSL, prep for football, prep for the Olympics.

Oh, I don’t know, maybe some of the other corrupt crap Trump has been pulling that he’s been firing all of those IGs for lately? And a lot of sports. Plus we’re heading into severe weather season so hurricanes and tornadoes.

In my hometown paper, the headline today would been about my book signing for a book I co-wrote about a devastating F5 tornado which blasted through my hometown almost 65 years’ ago. The local museum was going to dedicate a new room in the local museum about the tornado in conjunction with the book signing. A well-known local television meteorologist, who wrote the forward for the book was going to appear at the book signing. (He would have been the star of the show). Several of my high school friends who have moved away from my hometown were going to come home for the book signing and we were going to have a get together afterwards.

Well there probably would have been about 8 school/workplace shootings during the last two months that would have filled up lots of airtime. Sad that it takes a lockdown/quarantine to keep that from happening.

I would be interested in reading it.

We would be having a “Kim watch” where everyone would be speculating how sick or dead he is, and whether he’d try a body double, and getting background on his crazy sister. Who may very well be the next leader. Also the Mary Kate Olsen/Sarkozy divorce would be getting more air.

I am sorry you did not receive this honor. Our local bookstore has been doing Online interviews with authors. I hope you are able to be recognized once things open in your area. And shill your book on the pea reading thread. I would buy one too!

Obamagate.
Also, crime in the area was down significantly in April, so there would have been more local crime news.

The governor quietly repealing the death penalty probably would’ve made the news, and I don’t recall hearing anything announced when it happened. Too bad the weasel of a governor before him chose not to follow through with those sitting on death row at the time, like the Chuck E Cheese shooter and the guy who had some witnesses killed. Now it will never happen.

Brexit, brexit, brexit, namely the trade negotiations or lack of them. It is still in the news just off to the side not front and centre. A ton of sport, the lead up to the Euros. Miss my sports This morning there would have been coverage of the Eurovision song contest. Instead we got lots of review programmes looking back. We watched one called the A to Z of Eurovision and it was a trip down memory lane. If you want a small escape have a look at this video. It shows the two presenters when Sweden hosted the show performing the interval act, how to write and perform a song to win the competition. Everything that you see happen on stage happened in some nation's act in previous years. Eurovision is delightfully mad. m.youtube.com/watchv=cv6tgnx6jtqYou will all know the most famous interval act, first performed in Dublin at Eurovision, Riverdance.

Yeah, definitely Brexit for us. The new Labour leader was installed April 4th and I suspect he would have been more vocal without the virus stuff going on. HS2 a high speed train link between London, the Midlands and the North which is costing eleventy billions and counting.

Here it would be football (soccer) - last weekend would have been the final week of the Bundesliga season and we would have had the DFB Cup final yesterday evening, then the preparations for the Euros. We do have the liga back this weekend, and hopefully it will be able to be played through to the end, albiet without fans in stadiums, but the Euros are gone.
Eurovision would depend on how well or badly our entry did - I haven't heard it, so I have no idea there.
