Oh how cute Gennifer. And as far as the stomach turning (bloat), rough collies are also at risk as well as standard poodles. To avoid the problem, we feed 3 meals a day (divide daily allowance into 3 meals), feed out of slow feeders, and we don't allow them to go out and play for an hour after eating. Thankfully they have been okay doing this because when bloat hits, it happens fast and can be deadly. Also, we have had 10 male dogs over the years and all neutered. They make the best dogs (all of the breeds we have had), and I have never had a neutered male lift his leg on my furniture. I grew up with female dogs, and much prefer neutered males.

And, because this is useless without photos, here’s one I took a couple of days ago. They’re not allowed in the “working” aisle of our kitchen, so the outside aisle was as close as they could get. But, SERIOUSLY. Always underfoot. I love them Gennifer!! They are adorable. WorkingClass dog, I hope your family does well with your new addition when it happens. Have fun!! Dogs are such lovely animals!

My BFF has always had large dogs, St. Bernard, Newfoundland, and GS. They do fine in the house and are wonderful pets.
I can't wait to see your puppy pictures.

Excited for you and your family! Getting a a puppy is always exciting! Can’t wait for the puppy pictures! I’ve had friends with St Bernards and loved them. Big babies who loved to be inside. Have fun getting ready and ignore the “Pitchfork Peas” !!!!

I have had a St Bernard/German Shepherd mix and a Newfie. They were the most wonderful pets! Yes, they are big and shed and drool, but it was all worth it. I only wish they had longer lifespans. During the time that we had our Newfoundland, we also had our Pom. The two of them were best of friends. They would curl up together and nuzzle their noses together. The one's nose as big as the other's head. Our Newfie was very careful around the little dog. I'm so sorry you had to watch Chip be attacked. That had to be horrific!

I do not have Saints, but there are three in my dog circle that I covet from afar!
Ivy and Poker are owned by the same owners. The handler that shows them is in Oregon and my breeder wanted him to show my dog. Too bad I backed out, the handler won the breed at Westminster last year with Poker.
My favorite Saint is Xavier. He lives near me and his owner is an obedience judge. Xavier is very well trained and the ultimate gentleman! He lives with his corgi sibling, Gemma.

Not a dog owner myself, but I grew up with dogs and my parents have dogs. My advice, from experience, is never own a dog that you can't lift. If the dog gets old or hurt and can't get in the car, up the stairs, etc then what do you do?

One of the other pups in the class was a great dane. I remember us all sitting together in class one day, and great dane's "mom" had him in her lap. The trainer quickly explained why getting him thinking that her lap was a good place to be wasn't such a great idea after all

Forgot to finish my thoughts before I grabbed the photos Join St Bernard Facebook groups. And know that all breed groups are not created equally I’m in several Samoyed groups and some have more accurate information than others. Even if you (people) aren’t interested in showing or competing, the groups with established breeders tend to have more accurate info. The same with groups that are active with their dogs. We are used to the dog hair in our household so that doesn’t bother us. But I do think even a dry mouthed Saint will drool. Keep a towel handy. I would not recommend a furminater. They cut the hair and most of us with double coated dogs do not use them. My best advice is learn all you can about the breed and have a plan for your dog.

You have great taste Poker really is gorgeous. It’s amazing to watch well breed Saints move. All three of them, Poker, Ivy and Xavier are really pretty movers. Xavier lives in King county and his owners are fabulous people! This is Ivy, who was the first really well breed Saint I had ever noticed. I’m having a hard time finding pics without their people with them

They seem like such 'gentle giant' dogs.
Meantime, I have my hands full with a six month old German Shepherd. Whew. He keeps me busy!

Caliber thinks I’m his person <sigh> I love him, but he is not my preferred breed. I wanted the much easier Samoyed

She is a sweet girl but she needs so much! Then, because she hadn’t completely lost her mind in Dec they got a 6 month old GS mix. Omg that Girl is WORK! 😂😂. So much energy. It has been so nice getting to know these puppies. I had no idea German Shepard’s could be so loving. My only prior experience with German shephards was the mean dog next door. That thing barked at us incessantly when we walked to school. Looking back it was probably neglected.

I should have done this with our Lab, Emma. She thinks she is a lap dog and will think nothing of sitting on our lap of one of us is on the floor. Luckily, she’s on the small side at about 65 lbs. But we love it and call it POL “puppy on lap”. And use it as an excuse to not get up, as in: “Sorry, I can’t make dinner. I have POL.”

My GSD is both high energy and super chill... just not at the same time. It's always a toss-up which one you'll get! Lol.
He is not a barker though. He barks at people coming to the door - that's about it. He never barks at people, cyclists, or other dogs we encounter on our walks, thank goodness.

He is insane at times. He drives our MastiffxSt Bernard nuts She will go lay outside just to escape him.

We have a Husky. He's been blowing his coat since February. There is no such thing as hair free in my house, ever. We waited as long as we could to neuter at the advice of our vet, the surgeon who did his surgery at 4 months, and his rehab vet. They wanted us to wait until he was 18 months since growth hormones would only help with is healing. But at a year, the teenage naughtiness forced our hand. He doesn't "drool" but the kitchen floor near the water dish is consistently wet because he is a horribly messy drinker. He woos and howls at every Liberty Mutual and Ozempic commercial and barks on very rare occasions. He has an IG page that I never remember to update: www.instagram.com/catotheyounger18/?hl=enWe're looking for a sister for him this fall. He needs a playmate, and we've been advised it's best to have one of each gender to prevent dominance issues. It seems to be a breed issue. Good luck with your giant puppy workingclassdog 🥰

I’m not a dog person but I’ve always loved the idea of a St Bernard. They’re beautiful. Make sure you post pictures.
My sister has a Doberman who I love and would steal from her in a hot minute (and she’d let me. 😉. Zeus was her DH’s idea).

My BIL wants to get another one named Apollo and my sister is a hard no on that. Our boys were born when we had our doberman. She was in almost every picture. She was just the sweetest to them and so patient. When one of my kids would start playing doggy proctologist, she'd just sigh a little and scoot her butt away from them but kept close.

Gennifer I love dogs. I have two big ones of my own, but nowhere near the size of a St. Bernard. I would LOVE a St. Bernard. I love the idea that someone had about joining a FB group. As my pups get older, our vet bills grow. That fresh time after they are puppies and before they get older still ran me about $600 annually in vet bills alone (including shots and Heart/Nextguard). The rest of everything easily amounted to $1K annually. Those are GOOD times when there are no problems. Once problems start, you can easily double that cost. One small thing may not seem like a lot, but for one of my dogs, he had one "small" thing annually. Nothing to put him down for, but each was about $1K in addition to all of the above. One of my neighbors has a dog who is 6mos old. ADORABLE dog. His daughter is allergic. He needs someone to take it. The decision is heartwrenching. If my kids were young, I'd do it in a heartbeat. They are all excellent dog caretakers. But when they all leave me shortly (or maybe not so shortly!), I will have an elderly dog, a 6yo dog and a pup. My head tells me no, but my heart tells me YES YES YES. Sometimes our hearts rule and sometimes our heads rule. You have to decide for yourself which is better in this circumstance.
