I've had my hair cut several times Not an issue for me. Both the stylist and I wear masks and I know she is wiping down every surface between clients. I also feel strongly about supporting her She is a small business owner and this is her only likelihood.

I have been going every 3 weeks since July or so. Going today in fact. I have super short hair, and I like to keep it that way.

I'll admit it. I had my last haircut in January 2020. I had very short hair, but nearly a year of growth has taken its toll, even though my hair grows slowly now that I'm "mature." My employer has had us working from home since March, so I've hidden myself from my coworkers. Still, my family has to put up with looking at my modified Carol Brady mullet. I'm just not ready to have someone in my face, washing and cutting my hair, although I need it. (In my defense, I'm in the vulnerable population due to medical conditions.) On the bright side, when I do get back to the salon, I'm going with a short bob. Sort of looking forward to that. Nope...I've been numerous times since they reopened here in NYS. They have strict protocols. The stylists wear masks and shields along with gloves. We are required to wear a mask and not go in until they text us. It's safe

I am. I had fairly short hair. I had a cut in February. And then I went for a cut in June when salons reopened. I waited until September and I went for a cut and color (I had her dye my hair to match my roots so no more dying for me) and I finally had a hair cut that I felt like could grow out without any trouble. I haven't been there since. And I'm not planning on it. My hair really needs ends trimmed at this point. I may just do it myself.
What I'm really missing is my facial. I have terribly dry skin in the winter. So bad my skin flakes at times. I am normally a once a month facial kind of girl. But I'm scared to death to go for that. I keep sending my facialist money, despite the fact that I'm not going. My salon seems like they continue to be busy. And my hairdresser was one of the best there. You literally had to schedule 3 months out for appointments. So I don't worry about her livelihood. My facialist is not in the same situation. So I continue to support her as best I can.

I was overdue for a haircut already when the salons shut down in March. Oops.
I still haven't felt comfortable having someone in my face, with a mask or no, even since they've opened (and I think maybe closed again).
I pull my hair back in a ponytail.
When 'Rona is more under control, I'll get my hair cut good and short.

No, I am not afraid to go to the hair salon. Masks are required for all around.
You know, if the masks work, as we're being told, then what's the problem??
Wear a mask, wash your hands, don't lick any handrails. You should be fine.

I haven't been since February 2020. My stylist no longer goes to the salon because several people there had it. She bought the colors and toner I need, along with a bowl, brush and smock and my own comb, so DH colors my hair for me (just did last night.) She also comes to my house to do my hair. Her DD is high risk, so I know she is careful. My DH is high risk, so she knows we are careful. I open a couple windows, we wear a mask, she continually wipes down her shears and sanitizes her area where she keeps everything on a little towel. She has 2 other customers that live quite close to me, so we do try to coordinate.
All that being said, I used to have my hair cut and colored every 5 weeks. I have only had it cut 3 times in my home and DH has colored it 4 times. So, still not the best but not as bad as it could be.

It’s one of the few places that I’m actually NOT afraid to go. My salon is very small, never more than one or two other people in there. They’ve rearranged the stations to be further apart and put up partitions, and mask wearing is strictly enforced at all times.
It feels far safer to me than my classroom does. 😉

I feel totally comfortable when going to the salon I go to everyone is masked, and they have everyone spread out very far. The station next to my stylist is empty, and she’s already in a partly secluded area of the salon. They never set customers side by side at the wash bowls, and have plastic curtains between them as well. They also spray between customers. My stylist has two small children and I know she’s taking it all serious. The salon doesn’t allow any extra people inside, so no kids bouncing around. They can’t even double book appointments like they used to. My DS used to always get her trim or brows done while my color processed, and they can’t do that anymore.
I go every 4 weeks for root coverage.

Wear a mask, wash your hands, don't lick any handrails. You should be fine. The problem is that masks work in combination with limiting exposure- distancing and shortened exposure time. I have always trimmed my own hair at home, but DH has not been for a haircut. I think it's a combination of covid concerns and not wanting to deal with the whole appointment making/texting etc thing.

I've been going since they reopened. We call when we arrive and stay in the car until they call us that our stylist is ready. We go straight to their starion6 but first stop for hand sanitizer and a paper mask if we need it. No double booking. While I am there I am the only client for my stylist. No kids wandering around, no one coming over to chat. We pay the stylist and book with her at her station. All the stations were moved around and others that were too close only one is used. I feel safe there and I have been at least 5 times since they reopened.

Oddly, that is one place that I am not afraid to go. I have a medical condition, as does my stylist. Everyone is masked, you wait in your car until called in, and honestly, she is mainly behind and to the side of me for the bulk of the cut. Ive even had colors and brow waxes.

I don't know why you'd find it necessary to tell people not to lick handrails. To shame us for not wanting hair salon exposure? If so, that wasn't very nice. My lack of hair cut affects nobody but me.

Hair salons give me anxiety when we aren't in a pandemic, so I learned to cut my own hair years ago. Never have I been so thankful for that than this year.

I am okay going to the salon but afraid to go to the dentist. My mask was on the two times I have gone to get my hair cut and the stylist had her mask on too but if I go to the dentist my mouth and nose will have to be exposed. That terrifies me.

Mask are another layer of protection when combined with other precautions and one of them is keeping your distance from other people. Keeping your distance and limiting exposure isn't going to happen in a hair salon. Added to that you have hairdryers blowing the air everywhere - a recipe for disaster. There's a reason why they shut hair salons and nail salons and such like. You're sarcasm fell on deaf ears I'm afraid as I'm not in the habit of ever licking handrails Covid or no Covid.

I just got my first haircut recently. I’ve been doing my own color with eSalon and I’ll continue doing so for a while yet. I’m not afraid of the salon, but usually when I get my hair cut and colored, it’s a three-ish hour affair. That’s long, and close, exposure. So even with masks, limited numbers of people in the salons, and thorough cleaning, it’s still significantly more risk than say, breezing through the grocery store where you’re not in proximity to anyone for more than a couple minutes at the most. The stylist is obviously working on multiple people with long exposures every day, so it would be pretty easy to get it and not even know, and then pass it along.
Salons are open most places and as long as people are following the required precautions, go for it. Everyone has their own comfort zones; this thing happens to be outside of mine.

Well I wouldn’t say afraid but maybe the word I’d use is uncomfortable. I’m uncomfortable with going to the salon and restaurants and anywhere where I have to be inside with people longer than 15mins or so, except of course work. I have to go to work and oddly not too worried about being there. The last time I saw my hairdresser was Dec 07 2019 and the last time I sat in a restaurant was sometime in February 2020. My son has chronic lung disease so I’m extra cautious but not petrified. I’m taking the make my bubble as small as possible to heart. (Plus I’m an introvert so it’s not too hard nor different from precovid) however am longing for a good haircut right about now. Maybe once a good percentage of the population has been vaccinated for awhile then I’ll make an appointment. 🤪 That is how I feel, too. My friend and stylist cut my hair over the summer out on my patio. She did it again in early October on a warm day in her back yard.

I don’t want to be that close to a non-household member who is that close to other non-household members for that length of time.

I am extremely cautious about everything I do (curbside pick up only, don’t visit or socialize with anyone) but I have had my hair cut twice since the pandemic started. I should have had it done this week but with cases increasing and malls and stores packed I decided to wait a bit.

I went over the summer when cases were low. I cancelled my most recent (pre-booked) appointment. I was not comfortable with the amount of time I'd be in the space and in close contact (less than 6ft, and for a significant amount of time because I get full highlights). My appointment was for like the day after Thanksgiving, made when I had hope things would get better rather than exponentially worse.
The thought of someone hovering over me at the shampoo bowl... I couldn't do it.

Wear a mask, wash your hands, don't lick any handrails. You should be fine. Masks are prophylactic, just like condoms. They're not 100%. Even with masks, less than 6ft distance for more than 15 minutes is considered high risk contact. Masks REDUCE risk, not eliminate it. It's not a binary situation. So, even with masks, getting a haircut is an increased risk. Some are comfortable/able to take that increased risk, and some are not. "Fine" is relative to each person's situation and risk level.

The last time I was at the salon was Feb-20. Had a cut and a color and I haven’t been back. Do I desperately need to go? Yep. Will I go? Nope. I’m not comfortable going. She offered to come to my house and I declined as well. My BFF has continued to go, she said that what she was doing, at least when they first re-opened, was cutting, coloring and sending you home to wash the color out. No thank you. I’ll wait.
I have, on the other hand, gone to the dentist for my regular cleaning in August. They have always worn masks/face shields now they have the ‘haz-mat’ suit. I was comfortable with that.
It all boils down to what you’re comfortable with and it’s a very personal decision. What I’m comfortable with, someone else may not be and vice versa.

My stylist has her own stand alone salon. I have been going every six weeks for a cut and color. It is just the two of us during my time and we both wear masks. She disinfects between clients and won't the her next customer in, until the previous is gone.

I am a hairdresser and salon owner. If your salon is following the guidelines it should be one of the safest places to visit. Our cleaning/sanitizing guidelines are very strict.
Most of the time I am working on someone I am NOT in their face. I am usually behind the person. Shampooing is the closest face to face contact. So maybe you could ask for a dry cut, or go in with freshly washed (damp) hair. Also you could request the first appointment of the day so you are walking in to a space that is freshly cleaned.
My salon has be reopened since May 25th and we feel completely safe working each day because of our state guidelines.

I wear my hair in a ponytail 99% of the time so I might have trimmed it myself a few times in the last ten months... no one can tell if it's crooked when it's up. I have cut everyone else in the houses hair at least once... DH, two boys and two teenage girls.
I don't like getting my hair cut in normal times (the small talk...) doing it during COVID is not on my list.
