On a lighter note, any ideas for a gift for my daughter and her husband for their one year wedding anniversary? Happiness!!!

My parents gave us (paper) concert tickets to see Sting, in 1988.

Yes tickets are the perfect first anniversary gift. Or a gift certificate for a couples massage…

My mother gave us a place setting of our fine china. I chose a very expensive pattern and she told me that no one would buy it for us at the wedding. She was right. I had caviar taste on a McDonald's budget.

Did they get all the photos they wanted for their wedding and do they have a wedding album? If not, a photo book with their wedding photos.

I would do a gift certificate for some kind of experience- restaurant, show, etc. We loved gifts like that when we were newly married.

I love to give (and receive!) experience gifts. Another idea is a certificate for a photo shoot with a photographer who allows switching locations. For our first anniversary my family gave us a bottle of the champagne served at our wedding, sent us to dinner at the hotel we got married in, we are both in love with it. Then they put us up there for the night. What’s funny is that at the time our culinary tastes were rather unsophisticated so we left dinner, and my standing rib roast, early and picked up McDonalds or some other drive through! My mother gave us a place setting of our fine china. I chose a very expensive pattern and she told me that no one would buy it for us at the wedding. She was right. I had caviar taste on a McDonald's budget. It was the same for us. The only place settings we received at the wedding were from both sets of grandparents who each got us a pair and also the flatware to go with it.

It may be too late for this, but what I did after my brother got married is purchased a couple of large tubs...super large. Then spent the year going to sales AFTER the holidays. I got them paper products that were on sale. I was able to get all sorts of things.....plates, napkins, plasticware, decorations, etc. I put them all in the tub!
It was the best gift!!

That is such a great idea! I was going to be boring and say "Cash is paper".

My parents gave us a multi-pack of paper towels with a paper gift certificate taped to the top of package.
