Good morning ~ hopefully today is the day scrapmaven will be released from the hospital! KelleeM , I hope you get some relief soon. Today's question is about keeping cool. What do you use to cool down: A/C, ceiling fans, fans, etc. If A/C what temp do you keep it on? We have A/C which, when needed, I keep at 80 degrees. We also have ceiling fans/fans which really help. DH is playing in a golf tournament today (I couldn't do it in this heat) and they serve them a big meal afterwards around 3:30 - 4:00. So, I'll make the strawberry/chicken/etc. salad since I could eat it every night and he'll eat a little if he's hungry. What's on your menu?

KelleeM I hope you get some relief. Have they tried prednisone?? So dinner last night was mahi-mahi OMG so good in my new LeCruset pan. Not sure about tonight just yet. ETA: I have central air but I also run some fans. I have an 18 foot pitched ceiling and air sometimes doesn't "move"

Today has been another big declutter day. I have done the last two drawers in my dresser and started on the shelves in my craft room. I messaged a friend from the Family Center where I used to work, and she will be getting a box of old scrapbook paper and some yarn leftovers. The After School Care where I work now, and my friend whose 7YO daughter loves to craft will also get some. Tomorrow I have 3 removal firms coming to give me quotes, so I don't know how much decluttering I'll get done around that.
I am now just waiting for an amazon delivery (shredder, for all the documents we are not taking with us) and for my young Ukrainian friend to come around for English practice.
Dinner is another 'use up the food in the freezer' meal. I took out some leftover duck that I froze after Christmas lunch and have made it into a Thai red curry.
We don't have fixed A/C here - it is really rare to find it in houses in Germany. We have a mobile evaporative unit, which we use when needed. It doesn't have temperature settings, I just run it for however long I need to.

Hi. I took the day off today. I'm trying to get my stress under control.
I spent a good portion of the morning reading. I exercised. I cleaned up my kitchen. Now I'm sitting here with Finn thinking I might crochet a little bit if I can get myself to cooperate.
We have our air conditioning set at 70. Jeremy likes it at 68. I am tired of paying outrageous electric bills. Even 70 degrees is an outrageous electric bill. But I got him to at least compromise that far.
I'm not sure what we will have for dinner tonight. I have meals. Last night I ended up with a sandwich so maybe tonight I'll make those scallops

Happy Monday! Sending scrapmaven "get out of jail" vibes in hopes that she goes home today! We miss you! KelleeM - Sorry you are in such pain. A question - do you still have your gallbladder? I ask because when DD was young I had a similar thing - itching all over my entire body and making myself raw from the scratching. After an ultrasound, they discovered I had a gall stone that was blocking a bile duct and causing all the itching. Once it passed it went away. Just throwing that out there since you tried so many thing. christine58 - Which Le Creuset did you get? Back in the spring I got the 2.5 quart braiser and have used the heck out of it. Perfect size to cook for one or two people. Today I have a crew installing insulation and sheetrock in the old dining room. Progress! They hope to have the new kitchen cabinets (just the one wall of them) set by Friday! They are really cruising along on this project. Not sure what dinner will be. I still don't have a taste for much of anything as I'm just not really hungry, so maybe I'll pick up a salad at the grocery store. I hate summer colds! ETA: The a/c runs 11 months of the year - and sometimes during the 12th one as well. DH would have this place like a freezer if I'd agree to it, but I am cold natured. Compromise when he is home is 70F. The minute he leaves it goes up to 74. Although this past week has been brutal and even I have been cranking it back. There are also ceiling fans in the bedrooms, living area and my sewing room and they run year round.

**GypsyGirl** what a crazy symptom of a gall stone. But now that you have me thinking of it, Chloe once had an all over rash. The dermatologist said it was from untreated strep throat. She had antibiotics, steroids and the doctor had me take her to the tanner three times a week for three weeks to dry the skin out.

The hot weather has broken and it's very comfortable today, although a tad windy. I've done some laundry, washed the bathroom and kitchen floors and organized a closet. Time for a break! DH is in the driveway washing my car. Not sure why but I'm not complaining. jeremysgirl : I do remember you posting a photo of your Trailblazer. I love the colour! Mine is Mahogany Red but it looks more burgundy. It's the colour of red wine so I named her "Merle" short for Merlot. Not sure about supper upper tonight but I still have some leftover steak so probably have that with a salad. We have central air air and it's set at 77 or 78.

For the A/C question, it depends! If the temp is lower (up to probably 83-85 or so, we would have the windows open during the day and supplement with fans. Hotter than that and the AC is set to 78 during the day when we arent home and 74 when we are. Our issue is that we get direct sunlight for most of the day. The upstairs is much hitter than the main level- so, I also play around with which temp sensor I have the thermostat use.

Hi Everyone, Hoping our dear Queen scrapmaven gets sprung today; so that she can go home to her nice comfortable bed. cadoodlebug Your meme made me laugh out loud. That’s always fake news around here. The answer to the AC question is it depends on how hot it is outside. If it’s 100 degrees then we set it for 80. If it’s in the 80’s to the 90’s then we set it between 70 to 76. Here it’s the humidity that also gets factored in. jeremysgirl I hope that you can relax and de-stress today. christine58 Mahi-mahi is my favorite fish. sueg Good for you decluttering to get ready for your move. What is a mobile evaporative unit? **GypsyGirl** I am sorry that you still have your cold. It sounds like your house is coming along. taylortroop You have been busy this am. Merle seems like a perfect name for your SUV. This morning I had a chiropractor appointment and I am also decluttering my master bedroom. Dinner tonight is probably going to be rechauffe. I hope that all of you have a peaceful day.

sueg Good for you decluttering to get ready for your move. What is a mobile evaporative unit? Evaporative coolers use water to help cool - air is blown over the cool water, then into the room. They are most useful in places like here, where we don't have high humidity. Ours is mobile, not built in to a window. It is on wheels and sort of looks like a Dalek (if you ever watched Doctor Who) or a small robot. It is good as we can use it in the living room during the day, and then in our bedroom at night.

so we have the "open the windows and wait three days for AC"-- ie, usually it is hot for a couple of days and the fog comes back. after the wildfires a few years ago we got a portable room ac but haven't taken it out of the box yet.
I have no idea what is for dinner tonight. everyone is still sleeping.
we had a lovely weekend in Washington DC, other than being too hot for me. we went to a bar mitzvah, met many family members,--it was small and intimate and just lovely. I was the boy's nanny for 6 yrs, so I had to go. the flights were ok.. we went first class but had some long long airport walks. (we got tickets long ago before prices got insane). we arrived back home at 1:30 am this morning, and when we got home, we found dh had failed to put his walking poles into the car in the garage (he must have these to walk). so I got up as soon as I could get my contacts in, drove to the airport, and on my second go around, found the poles!!! so now, laundry and unpack and repack.
dh is driving to seattle to visit his mom tomorrow or wednesday, and on wed. I am flying to the midwest to bury my dad --and see my mom's grave for the first time. back home friday. I get to visit the family home town.. a little town of 500 in ne Iowa. and my daughter in law flies back to new zealand on tuesday. my daughter will stay to july 5.
hugs to all those who need it.

so we have the "open the windows and wait three days for AC"- That is what we used as our AC for the first ten years we were here, supplemented by a fan when it got 'really hot' - over 30°C - which tended to be maybe a dozen days a year, and interspersed with cooler spells. Two years ago, we had a particularly long hot spell, and temps into the high 30s, which is when DH finally relented and bought the dalek!

sueg We have those here in the U.S. and they are called swamp coolers. I don’t know why. When I was single, I owned one because some of the apartments I rented didn’t have A.C. I use to fill it with cold water and the room would be cool for hours. ntsf I am so glad that you found your DH’s walking poles. It was really hot on the East coast this weekend. I hope that you feel some peace this week with your trip for your father’s funeral.

I hope you get some relief. Have they tried prednisone?? My PCP prescribed prednisone back in November when I couldn't get into my dermatologist right away. I've been dealing with escalating flares since which, in part, are a consequence of the prednisone. The dermatologist said it was from untreated strep throat. This is a definite possibility. I also wonder if it might be related to your Covid, KelleeM ? My derm is taking a big picture look at why my skin keeps flaring, especially in places and ways it has never done in the past, and isn't ruling out that I'm dealing with a long-Covid response. If you can, I would get in to see a dermatologist as soon as possible. FWIW, I've been on an anti-inflammatory diet for the last 5 weeks and sticking (mostly) to it because of the relief it does give me. The derm also put me on a fish oil supplement and a probiotic. Hoping you do find relief soon. OK, I did go to the Greek festival knowing I would eat 2 things not on my diet: fried food and red meat. Loukoumades are fried dough balls tossed with honey, cinnamon and (usually) walnuts. It is always our first stop and usually accompanied by a frappe. This was the first festival I've been too that didn't have frappes! (Greek ice coffee). I was really looking forward to my Greek salad with gyro and kind of surprised to see this. It tasted fine, but that ain't no Greek salad. The church is undergoing a huge renovation of their murals. The designs are made with Italian glass tiles, laid out in a warehouse in Italy, deconstructed and shipped to Irvine where the father & son mosaic artist team reconstruct them. The tiles arrived during the pandemic, but the artists weren't able to travel and get started for about a year. These photos do not do justice to how stunning the pieces are in real life. The first is the altar and the second is the dome ceiling. Looking forward to hearing you made it home, scrapmaven ! We keep the A/C set at 78. The upstairs will be above 80 at this point and we need relief. I have a whole system of keeping the house cool without needing the A/C except on the hottest days. Luckily we have a marine layer and ocean breeze that helps keep us from getting too hot and means we can have the windows wide open most days from early evening to early morning. Dinner tonight will be a frittata for the guys and tuna salad with cucumbers for me.

bc2ca - I love loukamades! A day or two before I left Australia back in March, I went to a Middle Eastern supermarket, and they had tubs of them, and I was going to my sister's house for dinner, so I bought a couple as my 'contribution' to dinner! My sister is now also a loukamades fan. There is a shop here, which I pass in the bus when I go to work, but I never think to go there at other times and actually buy some. Maybe sometime this week.

Happy Monday dinner friends! Central AC is a necessity in Central TX. As @**gypsygirl** said, it runs year round and frequently on the same day as when the heat runs overnight. Ours is set on 74 during the day and 71 at night. I love to have the windows open, on the 5-6 times a year that the humidity and temps cooperate. A neighborhood college student is here working on my front landscaping bed, there is a weed/former shrub that is pernicious and got ahead of me, I'm going to put landcaping fabric down and top with mulch, I'll plant some perennials in the fall. DH is on his way back from the ranch, dinner will be the last of the leftover chinese, I'll probably make some additional rice. or steam some brocoli to go with it. @meleek I hope you find relief soon. I have evening itching sometimes and find if I take 3 zyrtec it helps to keep it at bay, but It sounds like your symptoms are much worse than my flare ups. scrapmaven I hope you are on the mend and get to come home soon! Wishing everyone an awesome day!

We use AC and ceiling fans. We keep the AC at 78° during the day and with the help of the ceiling fans and keeping the shades drawn it’s actually quite cool in the house. We turn it down after 9 pm for sleeping so usually by morning it is very cool in the house and it takes a while to warm up. Double pane windows and keeping the shades drawn while the sun rises is key to keeping the house cool.
Tonight for dinner we are having the mini chicken cilantro wontons from Costco with rice and some frozen mixed veggies. Not the most exciting dinner but grocery shopping happens on Tuesdays!
Oh and update to my son’s first restaurant experience. He was an absolute rockstar. We ate outside, he loved all of the people watching, charmed our waitress, and ate a ton! I was so anxious he would be a grump but he was so well behaved.

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend. Tonight we are either having nachos or breakfast. It's still early here and I can't decide. My dh may be leaving on a job today and if he does I may just have a peanut butter sandwich! The wedding we went to yesterday was just beautiful. The venue was gorgeous, looked straight out of a storybook. Sending scrapmaven good healing thoughts.

scrapmaven , I hope you're feeling feistier than ever! This summer has been wetter and cooler than we've had for a while, but there's still heat to come, I think. We've run the air a couple days, but then rely on cool night air. Button up the house and draw the drapes to minimize heat. We run the air about 75°, and have a couple of fans. Grew up with a swamp cooler. Tonight is rechauffe kebabs and rice pilaf, and green salad. ETA: cadoodlebug, the meme is hilarious!

I got in to see a nurse practitioner and she consulted with my PCP while I was there. I have an allergist and dermatologist appointment scheduled but they are weeks out. They’re pretty certain it’s an allergic reaction. I’m currently waiting for prescriptions. I did take prednisone and they’re trying another steroid. I am adding singulair to the Zyrtec I take daily and I’m changing blood pressure medication on the off chance that lisinopril is causing this. Trying anything at this point!
Thanks for your good wishes and concern. 😊
Dinner will be leftover baked macaroni and cheese. I ll make a salad to go along with it.
Oh…we use air conditioning (central air set on 70) as well as fans to cool off!

I'm hoping to make one of our fave dishes tonight, IF the ice and pain cream I'm applying to many joints eases the pain. It is simple but absolutely delicious! Potatoes and chicken breast roasted with olive oil, tons of oregano, Kosher salt, and garlic. Always with fresh broccoli on the side. Sometimes, I make it low-carb and healthier by replacing the potatoes with cauliflower. KelleeM ...Glad they're trying new things, and hope something works! jeremysgirl ...You sound like you need a big (( hug )). I hope your day off gives you some much-needed stress relief! If you don't want to answer this, I understand! But I've been wondering if your family is supportive with your grief? It's interesting how my brother and ex sister-in-law are dealing with their grief over losing their son. She's actually doing "okay" (unless her happy posts on social media are just a facade), but my brother is just devastated. Then with DH's side of the family having two deaths, ugh--- it's times like these I wish we lived our families.

I'm from there, and it's so fun to hear about peoples' visits. Did you get to see a lot in that short visit? dh had failed to put his walking poles into the car in the garage (he must have these to walk). so I got up as soon as I could get my contacts in, drove to the airport, and on my second go around, found the poles!!! I read this 3 times and still don't understand. He left his poles in a car that was still parked at the garage? Was it a rental car ? And why did it take 2 attempts to find them? And most importantly---WHY am I bugging you with my silly questions?

bc2ca Those pictures of the church are breathtaking! KelleeM I hope that all of the medicine helps you. Did you ask about the possibility of gallbladder issues or other issues that could be causing it? scrappintoee Your meme is funny. It’s interesting about the difference between how your brother and your SIL grieve differently. There is actually scientific proof that spouses deal with grief differently. missing walking poles:: we drove to the airport on friday, as we had to be there by 4 am and it was about the same cost to park as it was to take lyft both ways. my dh has an orthopedic disability, and for stability, uses walking poles to get around.
we got to the car on sunday at 1:30 am. after flying from dc with connecting flights. then he and I put the luggage down next to car, and I went to sit in passenger seat, he was loading luggage into the back seat, put his poles on the ground and forgot them there. we drove home, and noticed the poles were not in the car.
I drove down this morning and stopped the car in front of where we had parked. no poles. went to parking garage office, left a note about our missing item.. they hadn't seen them. so I decided to look one more time for the poles. as I came up to our parking place from a different angle, I saw the poles leaning against a pillar on the next row over!!! success!!! these walking poles are about $125 so I was motivated to look at least. my dh didn't think I would find them at all.
this was in the main airport parking garage.
ps. since laying my dad to rest won't take a big amount of time, I am going to the little town's library and doing genealogy research later in the day.
