My sister has been told that she would be a good candidate for this drug and as a pharmacist, asked me for my opinion.
The trouble is, I haven't worked as a pharmacist for the last 25 years LOL. So I went online and had a look and frankly the side effects scare me. There is a family history of suicide (2 generations ago) bi polar and addictive personalities.
On the other hand, if this will help her, I really don't want to stand in her way.
Obviously have NOT spoken to her dr but I'm worried. Uggh.

Because of your post, I have been reading about VYVANCE for BED. The study seems promising, but I personally believe BED has more of a psychological basis than a physiological one, meaning therapy would still be necessary.
That being said, my 11 yo 70lb ds is on 70mg VYVANCE for ADHD. He's been on that dosage since he was 57lbs. This dosage is well above the dosage it seems most BED regular weight, overweight and obese adults are being prescribed. He has never experienced any side effects, other than decreased appetite, He has a history of anxiety, but the medication doesn't seem to exacerbate that.

I was previously on Adderall XR before going on Vyvanse. Here for Vyvanse coupon: www.manufacturerdrugcoupons.com/vyvanse-coupon/My reason for switching was because I suffer from BED as well, which this drug is basically a miracle drug for. As far as how this drug functions as an ADHD med, I do not think it is as effective as Adderall but it does last for a really long time, which has its pro's and con's. If you take it too late, you will have a hard time sleeping and if you want to go to happy hour or grab a drink that day, because this drug takes anywhere from 9-11 hours to leave your system, you won't be able to feel the effects of alcohol or the effects of the alcohol will all kick in at once Vyvanse leaves your system (be warned). But if you want to get a lot done during the day, its good." |

I pulled the articles to read the publications about the 2 studies for this indication (I'm a pharmacist also).
First, they excluded ANY patient with concurrent psychiatric disorder, including those with any suicidal history, AND basically anyone who had any other concurrent medical issues (i.e hypertension, cardiovascular disease, etc). Basically they used very healthy binge eaters. Right there, it makes me question how this would work in the real world setting, because as we know, not everyone who receives a drug fits these "pristine" conditions that they use for studies.
Vynnase is prescription amphetamine basically. Any stimulant will make someone less hungry, but it's not going to fix the central issues that makes a person binge.
