and pubic hair..
My 14 year girl shaves her bikini line just fine but the other day when we went swimming I noticed quite a bit of hair between her legs and toward her bottom. She can't really see most of it herself.
So what do the peas think? Waxing? I think it would totally freak her out...
Perhaps boy shorts?
Whats a mom to do?
Thanks in advance for any advice !

I suggest boy shorts or a hand mirror so she can see what else needs to be shaved.

Tell her when she's not just about to go or actually swimming at the time. Tell her when she has a chance to do something about it.
I like the idea of boy shorts. Waxing is tough at any age, but 14? Yikes!

Teach her to keep her legs closed and her legs crossed.

I remember when I first got under arm hair and went swimming. My mom hadn't given me any advice about the whole thing and I went swimming with hairy armpits. I was really embarrassed when someone called attention to them. But after that, you can bet I always shaved them ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) . Anyway, tell her for sure so she won't have to be embarrassed in public. And get her some board shorts too. It's so much easier to throw those on than to worry about shaving all the time.

I'd tell her, but not right before she plans to go swimming. Better that you point it out than someone else.
Waxing is a good option, but speaking from experience, it's rough to get waxed down there. Might be a lot for a 14 year old to handle. I think I'd give my DD the option, though. Or, maybe a can of MSP.

If it was my daughter and I had her get waxed at 14 she'd be traumatized forever. She's such a baby about this kind of stuff. Haha! I'd just show her how she needs to shave under her legs around the crotch area. If she's up for waxing all the better.

I have a 13 yr old, and I know she would never get waxed - Not yet! She's had her eyebrows done a few times (she has very think eyebrows) and only will do that when my stylist recommends it to her. I own a waxing kit, and she wouldn't dare let her momma close enough! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) (eyebrows only!)

Give her a hand mirror, she should be looking at her own body and becoming comfortable with it around this age. She should know what she looks like, especially if something ISN'T right. I wouldn't go for waxing just yet.

My DD is 13 and we are of Spanish heritage. SO, we are cursed with very dark and unruly hair! Shorts are the way to go! And I agree to talk to her about it when she has a day to not rush!

Show her how to hike a leg up, bend down and look...then she can see what needs to go! It's harder to hold a mirror...LOL.

We've already dealt with this at our house. Last year we saw a girl DD's age at the pool who had a bikini and clearly had done no bikini area preparation, so DD was aware of the issue. When we got home from shopping for this year's suit, I told her to go put the bottoms on in the bathroom and use a mirror to make sure nothing was showing in that area, and to be careful with her razor. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Q_m8lDOvc_3Le3r1GKdf.jpg)

I would gently let her know later that she needs to shave a bit more off and explain why. I am sure she doesn't know. If she isn't really into it I would have her wear board shorts to cover the whole region!

Thanks for the great advice! Okay, so no waxing and I will have her look in a mirror ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) . I really like the board short idea instead of boy cut shorts - seems like they're quite popular now. Poor thing - she is quite the hairy little monkey (and no, I don't call her that to her face).

Sigh, I feel her pain. Sucks to be hairy in our society. Board shorts are definitely the way to go, and tell her she is not alone.

Give her the option of shaving or the boy shorts. She probably has NO idea.
