A while back I used Mod Podge on the cover of a mini album with the idea of giving it a nice, protective coat. All I got was a sticky mess. Even after it dried it was tacky, and I'm talking days later. Is there some trick to using this stuff or is this just not its intended purpose? Or, what should I use next time? Thanks.

I tried it years ago and ended up with that result... I thought maybe I put on too thick a coat so I tried it a second time and the same thing... Never could get the hang of it...lol Hoping someone's got a secret tip though because I saw something on Pinterest that I liked but backed off once I got to the part of the instructions that mentioned ModPodge...

Ranger's Glue 'n Seal is the answer. I am a klutzy crafter & I swear by this stuff! I would even go so far as to say that if you cannot use the cover which is still sticky, buy a small pot of matte Glue 'n Seal, brush it over the podge and you might be able to rescue it.
Disclaimer: I am not a paid crafter in any way, but I have had plenty of Ranger classes with their star crafters and I am a fan of most of their stuff.
If it works, please let me know.

I was thinking the same thing...put some type of sealer over the MP. Sometimes it seems to remain sticky for me too. I put on thin coats, but it doesn't always work. When it doesn't remain sticky I have no idea what I did differently.

Yes, definitely sounds like the coat was too thick BUT Mod Podge also does that. I no longer use it but use Collage Pauge or Liquitex Matte Medium. Both work great and are not sticky but I also make sure I always use a thin coat.

Thanks. I threw out the Mod Podge a while back. I think my project instructions at the time had me put on a couple of coats. Big ol' mistake there.

Mod Podge cannot handle humidity. You'll get stickiness every time. A layer of Ranger's Glue & Seal should help. This reminds me to throw out the rest of my mod podge now that I've found (and bought) the RG&S.

So, question for all you Ranger's Glue & Seal users - do you use the RG&S as a sealer or do you use it in lieu of Mod Podge altogether? I've run into the same problem that the Mod Podge is still slightly tacky even after it's completely dry.

sassiescrapper the matte version of G&S is very versatile. I am not hugely experienced with Mod P but had a few sticky mishaps. G&S will do all the decoupage gluing we used to love, adhere paper to chipboard minibook covers, stick skinny-cut silhouette titles down (thin layer) without excessive warping, as well as seal stuff down. Great for mixed media pages too. Brush it on washi tape that tends to unstick itself. Another great tip: thin layer on a shiny journalling block type sticker makes it much easier to write on. My personal favourite- Tim H DI's which are water based will not rub off a slightly shiny element if you treat it with a thin layer of G&S first. Give it a go and let us know how you get on! As I said above, I LOVE this stuff. ETA: about that skinny silhouette title: brush the background page very lightly with the G&S then put the title down on top. Don't try to brush the stuff onto the reverse of the cut piece. Because the sealer is matte, it will sink away and be almost invisible. Good luck!

I am a great fan of Mod Podge but for it set ok I put a thin coat on and then with a fan style brush go over and take off some of the glue so it has barely covered the surface. Hope that makes sense.
