Has anyone tried and succeeded? Seems everyone my age and younger types holding the phone in one hand and typing with one finger; my kids and everyone their age uses two thumbs--much faster. I do it when I think about it but old habits are hard to change.

I am probably older than you and I type with two thumbs. The only time I don’t use my thumbs is if I am swiping.

Mind blown. I just tried it and it's quicker and ore accurate. I wonder how often I'll actually remember to do it?

Why do you use one finger? If the keyboard seems to wide to use easily with thumbs, there is a way to shift it over so it’s more compact. I do it by accident sometimes — but might be easier for you to try if you have a larger phone and are trying to use one thumb instead of two.

My iPhone 11 is too big to hold and type with one hand. I've always used my thumbs.

I have a swiper keyboard and use a finger. I love it and it's super fast.

I can only use my right pointer finger and I have to angle it to the side. My fingers and thumb are too big. I can't hit anything accurate with my thumbs.

Okay I’m trying to type with my thumbs. I’m old and use my finger. I guess I can do this but it doesn’t feel natural.

I have made a conscious choice to not type with my thumbs. I have arthritis in my left thumb, so I try to baby it a little.

I'm 55 and I use my two thumbs. Unless I'm swyping, then it's one finger. When I'm too tired, I just voice text.

I have big thumbs too, so the finger is much easier for me. Also, I have an 8+, so holding it down at the bottom where the keyboard is, it feels like I could loose the phone at any minute because it feels way top heavy with most of it not in your grasp. I did not know about the swipe method. I tried that on my keyboard and it works. That's pretty nifty.

Ok this will sound strange but I can’t type with my thumbs because I can’t bend them without bending my index fingers at the same time. So if I thumb-type my phone jumps all over the place. eta...Googled and I think this is it. Linburg–Comstock Anomaly

I use two thumbs when I have to text, but I usually use the speaker. I get some crazy sounding texts when I use speaker, but I hate to text.

I mostly use my thumbs. It is definitely faster than pecking with my index finger. I’m using my thumbs right now! 😂

But I hold my phone with my index fingers on either side so it sort of locks everything in place, and I’ve never noticed it until I read about it just now.

Im a finge texter. I just tried a sample message with my thumbs it took me about 10 tries -- I do not kid -- to get a "r" and I was looking right at it. My thumb is too fat I think.

My kids shamed me into using thumbs a few years ago when I got a new phone. Practice makes you faster. Also, when you are holding a beverage in one hand you can hold your phone and text with one thumb with your other hand.

I refuse to type with my thumbs only because when I see other people do it that way it looks so Neanderthal. Hunched over, pecking away with thumbs like monkeys...yeah. No.

I can only use my right pointer finger and I have to angle it to the side. My fingers and thumb are too big. I can't hit anything accurate with my thumbs. Any time I e seen that problem, it’s been a matter of pressing too hard. My husband has HUGE hands, so he barely touches the screen. Just a tiny tap and it works just fine

I’m a fifty-something index finger tapper, frequently shamed by my young-adult kids into thumb typing, but I’m much more accurate with one finger. I have the classic wifey opens-like-a-book wallet phone case with my supermarket loyalty card and credit card in slots on one side and I find it harder to keep open when thumb typing but I can keep it held back easily with one hand and type with the other when finger typing. Now ios13 introduced swiping, I use that a bit too, but not really consistently enough to be good at that either, so I’m now stuck between three methods, two of which I need to practice more to be good at, and one which makes me look like I crawled out of the ark.
