Who's binged it? What did you think about the ending?
I admit that I didn't really "get" what Midge did during her Apollo Theater set. I had to read a review to understand why her set was so awful for Shy Baldwin.

Oh as soon as Reggie told her to talk about Shy I knew what was going to happen. I just can't believe the writers let her be so stupid to actually do it. She's a smart cookie, she knew he was in the closet, why did she think it was okay to say those things onstage?? What blew my mind was Suzy gambling away her money! I didn't see that one coming at all. Now Midge's nest egg and her future income are gone... bye bye apartment

I liked the season, but agree, how did she not know she was outing him? And what the hell, Suzy!

I actually had to stop watching the final episode last night because I knew she was going to out him after Reggie said to riff on Shy and that it would be super cringey. I think Midge is so selfish ... anything for a laugh.

I couldn't believe she did that either. I knew as soon as he said to just talk about him that she was going to blow it but didn't think she would out him. I am also shocked about Suzy.

We're only through the first 4 or so episodes. Although we like it, we don't think it's as good as the first 2 seasons. We don't like the Abe/Rose story line at all and don't like the Susie/Lennon story line. Just ick. Is Shy supposed to be a Johnny Mathis-like character? Not crazy about the Joel/Chinese gambling hall story line either. We like the story lines that involve Midge the most.

I liked this season so much better than last season. Although she has a very loose definition of being a mother, I’m ok with that, except why isn’t anybody complaining about having to take her place? I’m getting kind of bored with her parent’s issues. I know it does set the stage for them not rescuing her.
That road trip had to end, so what a way to do it. Suzy’s gambling seem to come out of nowhere. This puts Mrs Mazel right back at square one, having to rebuild her career.

I'm up to ep. 5 so I haven't read all responses - I will come back when I'm done.
I was sure Lenny and Midge were going to hook up after that late night TV show thing they did. The slow dance together and the way they looked at each other ::HOT::
I love Lenny

I so thought the same thing but kind of glad she didn't. I am hoping that we will see more of Lenny next season though. I like them together.

The real Lenny Bruce did date a comedienne at one point so it made me wonder if it was to be Midge. I was disappointed that after caring for Shy when injured she would out him like that. The manager mentioned a list of things she could riff on and she didn’t go after those at all and picks on the forbidden topic. I thought that didn’t go with her character.

Suzy replaced all of Midge's money and gave control of it to Joel. She and her sister burned their mother's house down for the insurance money and Suzy said that would take care of replacing Midge's money but she was out everything.
It was sad seeing Jackie knowing that he's since passed away IRL.
I didn't mind the Joel story - interesting how he definitely has a type of woman.

Yeah, when the bookie showed up at Suzy’s apartment and warned her about having a gambling problem, I figured there would be trouble at some point. I was worried that she was going to get hurt though because there was the “joke” about how the guys that helped her get the theater hadn’t killed her and they said something like “not yet” and then laughed. (I can’t remember the exact words/context, but I remember thinking “uh-oh, Suzy”.)

I was sad to see how this season ended, but the entire show has been based on the fact that Midge does and says what she wants when she wants consequences be damned. I think her personality as presented is so conflicted. She decides to go on a world tour without talking to her family (childcare anyone?) or her fiancé. She's always made her own decisions, yet when someone doesn't blow smoke up her rear end (Moms Mabley), she falls apart and needs to be told what to do. You would have thought that the riff on Sohpie that she did early in her career would have taught her that some things shouldn't make it into her routine.
Count me as one who is tired of the parents story line. The whole family seems to make decisions on a whim then recoils when faced with the consequences.
Having said all that, I hope there is a season 4. Overall I've found the show kind of like a wreck along the side of the highway - oddly fascinating while hard to look.

I don't think so... everything I've read online says that she burned down the house to get the insurance money so she can replace Midge's money, but there's no guarantee she'll actually get the money (arson) or how long it will take. Which leaves another cliffhanger for nest season

I was so bummed to get to the end of Episode 8 and realize that was it. Me too. I thought there were another couple to go So some random thoughts now I have finished - - - The scenes on Shy's boat made me a bit green (I have no sea legs and get dizzy easily) I thought the actors did well to cope with that! The platters of food must have been glued down (also the individual food I think) cause that boat was leaning and the food wasn't moving an inch though it should have been The scene in the Stage Deli with Benjamin - Midge told him with her on tour it wouldn't have been much of a life together and he said "coming together would have been sensational" when she got home. Oi my knees went weak She missed a catch there The Weissman's and the Maisel's living together nearly did me in. Shirley's yelling would drive me insane

I think Midge is so selfish ... anything for a laugh. I see her as not thinking before she speaks. I don't see her being intentionally mean.
I was sure Lenny and Midge were going to hook up after that late night TV show thing they did. I feel sad when there's a Lenny scene knowing how young he died.
I thought the Shy Baldwin act at the Apollo was poorly written. Even in the early 1960's, it would have been obvious to most people what she was talking about. I knew she wouldn't be going on tour.
I did love the part where Susie tells her sister thanks for committing a felony with me.
Does anyone else wonder if the f word was thrown around that much in the early 1960's? I understand the comedy clubs, it seems to be in just about every setting.
I think Midge's mom might end up helping the family with her matchmaking (extra money). I find it very hard to like her character this season.

What do you mean knowing how young he died? The comedian he's based on? I don't understand And Suzy gambling. Ugh so disappointed. I don't like the character Sophie Lennon - the actress does a great job with the script she is given but I would be happy if she didn't return next season

The real Lenny Bruce died when he was forty. The third series is set in 1961. The real Lenny Bruce died in 1966. Knowing that in five years he died, was sad. I hope that makes sense.

I wonder too! A friend of mine asked me what I thought of the series and the first thing out of my mouth was that I doubted the f word was common in language in the 50s and 60s. I think that's the influence of current day writers trying to make a specific period attractive or cool. I think the costuming perfectly captures the 50s and 60s but the language (both swearing and verbiage) does not.

I think that's the influence of current day writers trying to make a specific period attractive or cool. I think the costuming perfectly captures the 50s and 60s but the language (both swearing and verbiage) does not. I grew up in NYC and not in the rarified atmosphere the Masiels inhabited. Nope, I grew up poor in the Bronx. Both of my parents swore like sailors. I never heard my father utter the word and only heard my mother utter it late in life after she went to work in a prison. But in the time frame of the show: If a man said it in mixed company, he would have been reprimanded by both men and women. The F word was NOT something any "decent" woman ever said. EVER. If a woman had said that, even my poor working class neighbors and family would have thought WAY less of the woman. It would have been considered "low class." In part, it also would have been considered an unfeminine thing to do. So while Susie saying it is not shocking to me, hearing Miriam using it ALL the time absolutely takes me out of the moment every time. In fact, I think they really missed an opportunity for character development by having Miriam swear like that from the beginning. To me, her swearing changes would have been an excellent way to illustrate the changes in her behavior that occurs as she moves out of her bubble.

My dh and I just finished up tonight. We purposefully had to drag it out as it the ONLY show that we both love. I thought this third season was excellent. But my husband is a happily ever after type ending guy, so he was really let down about last episode. I think one of the things that makes this show so great is that the writers know how they want the series to end so I think every step forward and every step back is the rode she has to take to get there. "We know where we want [Midge]’s story to end. We don’t know how many more seasons it will take to get there, but we know when the journey is over.” I had originally read that they expected the show to be 5 seasons, but I can see Amazon wanting to ride the popularity a few more seasons than planned. Ultimately I'll put money that Joel and Midge end up together (and that pains me to say as I really loved Benjamin). But Joel had a really redemptive arc this season-for the way he has stepped up as a father and the way he supports her choices, Joel has grown on me. Anyway, can't believe I'll have to change the calendar 12 times before the next season arrives.

We have been saving this show to watch between Christmas and New Years. Midge & Joel's parents both drove me crazy this season. I totally thought Midge's mom was going to Providence, RI and thought it was funny that she was in OK. They better figure out a way to get some money because I don't want them moving back to the house in the Queens. I enjoyed seeing Midge on the road. I hate the storyline with Sophie Lennon. Midge can be pretty careless when she's on stage and as soon as she got stage fright I figured she would blow things with Shy. That was a sad ending with him.
I like Joel and thought it was funny that they remarried in LV. I did not like him the first season, but I could see why she married him. He has really grown on me. I would not be disappointed to see them together. He's supportive of her career, loves her, and he's a good dad. He now has a club where she could perform if she wanted. My husband is totally on team Joel and when I reminded him that he walked out on her and lived with his secretary for most of the first season he responded with, "That was not his fault. The writers made him do that." I thought that was funny.
So I'm on team Joel for a while there and then Benjamin comes back and reminds me that he's a nice match for her and she probably blew it on that one. It'll be interesting to see what happens with Susie and Midge and where her career goes from here. I do think it might be good if Joel took a role in it. So maybe I end on team Joel. It'll be a long wait until season four.

I was heartbroken when Susie was sobbing, knowing she'd lost all the money. I didn't think she and her sister would burn the house - just sell it or something.
Midge is like an independent child - is grown up enough to make decisions at times, but impulsive like a child and needs guidance.
I also really liked Joel this season. I like the parents but not the story line and I wish they had not put them together in one house.
