Not a fan. I ate salads for lunch every day for 2 years on my diet and now I like them even less. I?d never CHOOSE to eat a salad these days. Blech!

I'll eat salad if it's served, but I rarely choose it at a restaurant or serve it at home. I LOVE iceberg and Romaine, but nothing else. I've tried spinach and healthier types of lettuce, but they are bitter and not as crunchy. I certainly don't want weeds that look like they came from my yard
BTW, I've never heard that iceberg was bad for people. I knew it wasn't AS good for you as the other types because of lack of nutrients, but never heard about the digestive issues people have been mentioning here.

I do like salad, but rarely eat it. My favorite salad is one made for me by someone else!

I enjoy salads but they have to be a bit fancy. Not the boring old iceberg lettuce / tomato / cucumber / Kraft cheese salads of my childhood!
My favorites at the moment:
crunchy Asian noodle salad Thai chicken salad Roast cinnamon pumpkin & feta salad Sweet potato, pear & macadamia salad
and my very favourite
Warm lamb, pumpkin & pomegranate salad with mint yoghurt dressing

Plus it is really bad for your digestion. Really bad Why is that? [br It mostly water with very little fiber and very little nutrient content. Kind of like eating watery white bread. You should feed it to birds or reptiles either.

I love salad and eat it every day. I would hardly put lettuce in the same category as "watery white bread". Even iceberg is better for you than a highly refined "food" like white bread. And if you eat varieties like kale, spinach, and arugula, you are getting excellent nutrition.
I buy a container of organic mixed baby greens with herbs, a container of arugula and a couple of heads of radicchio a couple of times a week and combine them all together, together with raw vegetables like celery, carrots, radishes, cauliflower and cucumber. To a cup of this mixture, I add a couple ounces of protein, a half-cup of a chewy, nutty whole grain like wild rice or hulless barley, 1/4 of an avocado for fat in lieu of dressing.
I feel really good when I eat this way.

I don't eat lettuce so my salads are with spinach. I only eat it when I'm dieting, and only order it in a restaurant if it's a fancy kale salad.

I love a good salad. I don't like salad dressing much, though, so I just eat them dry most of the time. DH hates salads and won't eat them.

Not a fan of salad. I only like them when I can add all the fattening stuff - like bacon, cheese and blue cheese dressing. Since those things are a no-go for me due to dietary restrictions, salads are BORING. My family, OTOH, has to have salad with every meal. Plain salad. Romaine, parmesan and dressing. DH will add tomatoes to his if we have them, but otherwise it's just lettuce in a bowl. And they eat it last. Like it's dessert or something. L

I wouldn't say that makes it bad for your digestion, I would say that means I wouldn't rely on it as a source of fiber or nutrients. That is how I see it. I do like the crunch of iceberg in a salad. That is funny. I can't eat the same thing over and over. I get so bored.

That does not explain why it is "bad" only that it is not as healthy as other greens. Please let me know why it is bad because I eat it (and every type of green and veggie) a lot!! A quick Google search tells me that you are correct in your thinking. That's what I've always thought and I don't feel guilty when I put iceburg in my salad along with romaine and/or spinach.

Iceberg lettuce has the same amount of fiber per cup as spinach. It has less of some vitamins and minerals than darker leafy greens. You probably wouldn't live on iceberg lettuce alone, so if it's what you like, eat it. If you eat a variety of fresh food you will not be nutritionally deficient. Iceberg lettuce is fine. There is nothing wrong with it. I like butter lettuce personally. I will eat spinach but I don't like kale or field greens. I figure lettuce is way better than Cheetos, nutritionally speaking, so I'm not inclined to fuss over the difference between iceberg lettuce and kale as much.

I generally like a salad someone else made much more than one that I made. Weird. I am exactly the same way.
Last night I had the girls over and someone brought a salad with kale, craisins, coleslaw and pumpkin seeds, it was really good! Would be great with a grilled chicken breast thrown in there.
She said she got it at Costco, so I am off to Costco later this morning to get it, plus other things .

I used to eat salad all the time. Then we stopped making "good" salads and now I just don't eat it. I need to get some dressing I like and toast some pecans or something to put on it. It's just too boring and I hate the taste of "just lettuce".

I like salad okay but I don't love it. If I have one for lunch, I am totally uninterested in having another one at dinner time. Mostly I'd rather serve cooked vegetables, anyway. Usually when I make a salad at home, I combine romaine and spinach. I'm not a fan of baby greens or whatever those weedy mixes are called. But I don't think iceberg is a waste of space. It adds a wonderful crunch to salads (and sandwiches) that no other lettuce or other green provides. Plus fiber (?? I suppose) and volume. I don't use it often but I don't mind it at all. Better iceberg than those damn field greens. I only like them if they are weedy! If I don't have greens from my garden I buy the Power Greens mix. I eat a lot of salad. Currently I'm stuck on greens with chicken, green apple, feta, and honey mustard dressing.

[br It mostly water with very little fiber and very little nutrient content. Kind of like eating watery white bread. You should feed it to birds or reptiles either. That makes it not particularly nutritious, which is different from being bad for you/your digestion. ETA - whoops, should have read the whole thread, others have already been there
