I'm all about the white lights when i have a color scheme on the Christmas tree.
This year the tree is silver, red, & green.
The year before was silver, teal, and purple.
Year before that was just silver and teal.
All with just white/clear lights.

My whole life we always had colored lights. About 6/7 years ago we went clear and I couldn’t believe how much better our ornaments look. No going back. We do use color lights on our outside porch tree that has no ornaments, just snowflakes.

I prefer colored, but I was outvoted. So it’s white lights on our tree and colored lights on our front porch.

Growing up, mom always had color lights. My husband and I bought our tree prelit 5 years ago and it’s white. I don’t care either way, lights are pretty to me no matter the color!

I use both. I put white light on the inner branches and colored lights on the outer branches. It's a trick I learned from HGTV about 25 years ago.

I have white lights and a color scheme, also. This year it's red, teal, gold. and pink. I found some great ornaments on clearance at Pier 1 last year with those colors.

I will only ever have colored lights on my tree. They look so much more festive and fun to me. My tree is a complete hodgepodge of different ornaments, colors and styles and the colored lights just make me happy. Since I’m the one going to the trouble of putting the lights and all the stuff on it, I get what I want.
I almost did the white lights on the inside and the colored lights on the outside of the branches but at that point I would have to redo part of it and I said the heck with it and put a couple extra strings of colored lights on.
ETA: I compromise with DH and let him have the lights outside white most of the time. They’re white right now but I’m going to switch them to colored lights until Christmas, then switch them back to white from New Year’s until we switch them off all together around Valentine’s Day.

Both. My pre-lit tree switches back and forth. I have several settings on the control that can set it to white only, colored only, and blinking slowly or quickly. I wanted to set it to white only but it's on a timer and each time it turned off it would cancel the setting. Plus my boys want blinking lights. So, blinking lights it is.

We have a fake tree and the lights change. I prefer white but the boys and husband like the colorful ones. They change them to color - I change them back. This goes on all season long.

I grew up with colorful lights but somewhere along the way switched to white lights. In my mind, colorful lights are so festive and white lights are so elegant. Isn't it funny for how long we've had electricity and lights we still find lighting so special and magical.

Coloured here, the more the better both on the tree and outside. Pretty much word for word what I was going to post! I love the look of plain white lights on trees, I think it's very classy. But for me I love as much colour as possible. I bought new lights for my tree and for outside this year, and they make me really happy to look at. Isn't it funny for how long we've had electricity and lights we still find lighting so special and magical.  Yes, elegant is the word I was looking for above when I said "classy"!

My color scheme is white, silver and purple. I have mostly white lights but put two strands of purple lights on as well. The little pop of color is very pretty.

We have 2 trees. One in the man-cave that is colors and the one in the living room is white. I prefer the white.

I prefer plain white/clear lights.
My mom prefers white/clear but my stepdad likes colorful lights. They rotate every other year.

I grew up with colored, and don’t like white. My tree is also a hodgepodge of ornaments, and although I am very sedate decorator normally, I like a colorful tree. What is funny is that my mom switched to white lights the second I was out of the house. I don’t remember ever having a preference, it never came up, we just always had the colored ones. Some of the lights even have those colored plastic shields under them, and were older then I was, but the second I was gone my mom went to white lights and a matchy matchy tree.

White! I think it lets the ornaments be the stars.
