Color scheme is red and white, with the emphasis on the red. Lights on the tree are white. We did start doing some red lights, like on a little tree on the screen porch and a big bush outside, and added red lights to a couple places where there were already white. I didn’t do the outside this year, but have the red one on the screen porch.

My tree is all about recreating the trees of my childhood. So it is colors and as many as possible. I do not do any themes or change things up from year to year.
Colors!!

I use both. I put white light on the inner branches and colored lights on the outer branches. It's a trick I learned from HGTV about 25 years ago. I don’t mix mine. But I do add lights to the middle of my pre lit tree. This year I got a new pre lit, flocked tree. I really like it, but it didn’t seem to have many lights (white). I added 2 sets to wrap around the middle inside. It looks sooo much prettier that way. To me. 🎄

Prelit tree and we usually have one that’s white and the other colored. My DH changed our main tree to colored and our son didn’t change it like he normally does so it’s been colored to. I would love to add more white lights in the center as I don't think most trees have enough lights these days. I am tempted to change our main tree to white again. I like being able to easily change the light colors on prelit trees.

Both. Our tree was prelit with the option of white or color. We have tons of color lights, so the tree lights are white and then we add on our strands of colored lights. It’s nice and bright this way, and it makes for pretty pictures. 😁

The white lights brighten it up and the colored ones make it festive. It looks like it's covered in jewels. It gives it a lot of dimension. One essential I learned when decorating trees for a giftshop I worrked in during the Eighties is to use 100 lights for each foot of the tree's height. I use more than that though. I'll take a picture tomorrow and try to upload it.

White lights and white, silver and glass baubles. No colours - I love the simplicity

White! I think it lets the ornaments be the stars. This is what I was going to say. With white lights I notice the tree and the ornaments, with colored lights I notice the lights.

White lights but they are warm white as opposed to very bright white. I have two sets on the tree.
I do have a older short string of coloured lights that I hang on a shelving unit.

Isn't it funny for how long we've had electricity and lights we still find lighting so special and magical. So true. We do one tree of each -- colored lights on my tree filled with vintage & antique ornaments in the family room, but only white lights on the travel-theme tree in the living room.

I like white but my husband and daughter like colored. So we’ve always had colored lights, both inside and out.
This year though, our big tree just gave up its ghost. It’s a monstrosity - so huge and heavy and after 18 years it was time for a new one, but I just never got around to replacing it. So I brought two of our other, smaller trees up from the storage room (we used to put one in the guest room and one in the front room, but aren’t having sleepover guests this year). So we have two trees in our family room this year. They’re standing right next to each other. One with white lights and one with colored! We should have done this every year!

We have two trees ... The green tree has multicoloured lights and random decorations The white tree has white and blue lights with white, blue and silver decorations ... it's my "perfect" tree

both here - the only artificial one we found that we liked was prelit with white, so we add on extra colored ones. I like the mix.

I've always had colored, but the tree I changed to this year only has white prelit, and I chose not to add any so it would stay "easy" and I actually like it.

When I had a (fake) green tree, I had white lights.
I currently have a fake silver tree and I have small multicolored lights.

White. When I replace my tree, my hope is to get one where it changes.

We use colored lights! I don't think they detract from our wonderful collection of ornaments! Attachments:

White! My mom did colored lights and I always knew I would switch to white with my own tree. A bunch of our ornaments are red and/or gold so it looks best with white anyway.

Neither. When I was growing up and up to 3 years ago we always had real candles on our tree. As I've mentioned lots of times before my Mom is German and this is a German tradition. We have candle holders that clip onto the tree branches and a small white candle fits into each candle holder. You usually put about 12 to 15 candles on the tree-not really that many depending on how tall the tree is, with a really tall tree you may need more. We've always gotten fresh real trees and it's not decorated until the afternoon of Christmas Eve. German tradition is that the children in the family don't see the tree decorated until that night. We have our Christmas celebration with the family on Christmas Eve (again German tradition). The tree stays fresh because it sits in a bucket of water until it's decorated.
It's not that dangerous because we take turns watching the tree the entire time the candles are lit (which lasts about an hour) and we have a fire extinguisher and a bucket of water (to appease my mother) nearby. In the 57 years that we have done this we've never had a fire. We've had a branch above a candle spark a bit but we've always been there to catch it and extenguish it. These trees have all been at my parent's house where we always celebrate Chrismas (my parents insist) and in the past 3 years they decided they didn't want to bother with the candles and have just done white lights.

Multi colored lights here - our tree is a mismatch of ornaments from throughout the years and l love how they look with the colored lights.
