Dd also has been trying to do wax strips at home for her eyebrows, and doesn't like them. She likes the hot wax they do at the hair salon. Can you do this at home? does anyone? and what do you use?

You can and I do. I use the Sally Hansen brand that you heat up in the microwave.

BE VERY CAREFUL with the wax...it can go from 'this isn't hot enough and it is not working' to 'removing the skin above your eyes' in a few seconds in the microwave. Test little teeny tiny areas until you find the right length of time in the microwave.

It's only $8 for an eyebrow wax at my salon so I get one every 5 weeks when I have my hair colored and cut. I'm sure I'd be browless if I tried to do it myself.

I used to do it myself using a wax from Sally's. The brand I used switched to a metal container so it could no longer go into the microwave. I tried s bunch of different ones and they were super messy and seemed to stick to everything that I didn't want it to (counters, skin, etc) and not to the hair. So I just go and get it done now. Doing it at home would be more convenient, though.

I have done, using my pro kit but it's messing mainly because you're standing up...gravity, runny wax and all that. Mistakes are easily made so really, a salon is the way to go with this.

How old is your dd? I'd be very wary about her messing around with hot wax and her face.

Eyebrows can get ruined in a hurry in my own hands- I leave it to the pros! I have done other waxing at home with the Sally Hansen kit but for brows, definitely need the assistance of someone who knows what they are doing!

The last time I bought it, I found it at Kroger of all places.

For many, many years I did my brows myself. Now, I have them done. Why? It's just easier. The professional has much better vision than I do!

Oh good gravy. yea, because I'm a moron and would have never thought of that. She's 21 yrs old. Plenty old enough, and would probably be doing it with her roomie.
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! To get her brows done at our salon is like 10$.

I used to use hot wax when I was in college. I found a waxing kit at an independently owned beauty supply store that was an electric warmer that used small individual wax cartridges with a roller top for easier application.
It worked ok, but it was very difficult to tell how hot the wax in the cartridge got because of the thick plastic the container was made from.
I quit using that wax when I severely burned the skin under one of my eyebrows because the middle of the wax was much hotter than the outside.
The microwavable wax works well, but it's messy. My skin is also extremely sensitive, and the wax, even the special "sensitive skin" waxes tear my skin up and caused major breakouts.
I use the Oil of Olay depilatory cream kit. I apply the cream around my eyebrows with q tips for more precise application. It's so easy to use. I even use the cream on my chin, upper lip and occasionally on my cheeks near my hairline. I also use Sally's depilatory cream. The Oil of Olay is more expensive, but it's so gentle and the aftercare balm pen really calms the skin and stops breakouts.
