I lost my grandmother in 2002. I was just 22 and took care of her from the age of 16 till her passing. She was the most important person in my life whom I loved more than words. Every Christmas she would send us out to find her a Jane Parker fruitcake. No other would do.
After her passing I never had one since. I looked for one a few yrs ago only to see they were no longer made but this year I saw they went back in production in 2017. This year I ordered in, in the metal tin just like my grandmother bought. It was exactly the same as I remember and each morning when I have my little slice it takes me right back to being with my grandmother so many years ago.❤️

My paternal grandmother made my dad her special fruitcake every year before she passed away. I attempted to make the cake using her recipe one year but the results were just not right. A few years later we found a monastary in Missouri that makes delicious fruit cakes. I now order one for him each year. Though not as good as grandma's, still yummy. Fruitcake really is very good if people would just try it.
I'm glad you found the kind your grandmother liked!

My mom made a delicious fruitcake using her mother’s recipe. I’m going to have to look to see if I can find it in my recipe pile. It was so moist and yummy.

I make my grandmother's recipe and make fruitcake every year. it is the main gift to my dad and to my sister. my dad has one slice a day.. so makes it last at least 2 months.. rarely shares. he was very close to his mother.. and she ran a boarding house and was a fabulous cook.. and he learned to cook from her (only child).. she died in 1953. so i make her fruitcake, her pumpkin pie and a few other things.

My mom makes an ice box fruitcake. It’s a no bake mix of awesomeness. One of the men from her church just loves them, and he has a pecan orchard, so he supplies the pecans for the fruitcakes and Mom makes several just for him.
She brought me one yesterday when she came up, I intend to enjoy every bite!

Oh thanks for the memories! They have jogged my memory of mama's date nut loafs. Now I really want to make some.
