I have a vintage fire king baking dish with silver around the edge. It sits in a mid century wood frame for serving. I wasn't monitoring clean up and it was either soaked before washing or YIKES put in the dishwasher. Now the silver (like a paint, not actual metal) is tarnished. Do I use silver polish? Do I try the aluminum foil with boiling water and baking soda? It was completely untarnished before. I haven't used it a lot and normally hand wash and quickly dry. It used to look like new Any suggestions? I appreciate someone helped, but oh boy...

I would not use silver polish on something that's not solid, its likely to polish the silver right off. I'd personally try the aluminum and bakingsoda method and keep my fingers crossed that its real silver, what do you have to lose at this point?

I would buff it with a soft cloth to see if it cleans it up. Good luck.

Did you decide what to do? I'm concerned buffing would take away the finish whereas the baking soda and aluminum just reverses the chemical process of tarnish and would not remove any of the silver if in fact it was silver.

I got caught up in work and haven't done a thing. Story of my life...I want to use for Thanksgiving, so I'll let you know what I try.

Do you have one of those jewelry cloths that shine silver? I'd use that. It is a cloth that will shine silver jewelry.
