I'm hitting a wall so let me explain. My family room has an sort of invisible wall. Imagine the TV, and couches in large portion. There is a beam that divides it from the other side. I have 3 walls. The 2 side walls and the large wall that is the front of the house. On the right I have a walk in closet that I use to store supplies. It is reasonably organized. On the left I have a jet max type storage center. The large wall at front is a counter about the length of the wall. The set up is awesome except I really need paper storage. The jet max is filled and so I began using the walk in closet that has a shelf for it. It's aweful because the shelf is 11" depth. Plus all of my albums are in there too. My wonderful husband would like to add an actual wall and add Kallax shelves so I will have a place for the paper and albums. I love this idea. Except , I take up the entire walk in closet and basically that whole side of the room. I have to still purge and sell more supplies to make anything work at this point. I am thinking about removing the bins that are in the jet max cubes and store either my albums there or the paper. It does not solve my problem entirely. I am afraid that if I let him do the Kallax shelves I will just expand more. I feel guilty about it I think. Otoh it's my hobby so shouldn't I just enjoy it and go for the Kallax shelves? Where am I going to store these albums? I am no where near done with this hobby.

If you can afford to expand and plan to use what you have and really love this hobby then I say go for it and don't feel guilty.

Don't feel guilty unless you aren't using any of your product. What you are doing is important, whether you are preserving memories for your family or just enjoying the process. If you need to purge a little to make room you will figure it out. Just be glad you have a good area to enjoy your hobby.

Could you get the Kallax and try it as a room divider to see if you even like that setup BEFORE you go through the mess and expense of adding an actual wall? That's what I'd do. Then if I liked how it worked, I'd go to the trouble of adding the wall. It would be a lot cheaper to repurpose (or even sell) the shelf if you decide you don't like it.

I asked my husband about using it as a room divider and he doesn't like it. I am likely going to go for it. The more I orgsnize the more I realize how ideal the shelves will be.

Christine, in 2007, one of my children decided he wanted his own room. He would have had to move upstairs into my scrapping space (which was also the guest room). I asked hubby to consider and addition to the house. Well after about three months of bids we went forward on an addition (dug into the ground about 5 feet) and splurged and got an enormous Trex deck. It was not cheap, but I have looooved my room ever since and the boys have a perfect downstairs for them. I would go for it. If both you and your hubby are in what else really matters. I should add the spare room disappeared and now my MIL sleeps downstairs when she visits. So worth the cost.

I say go for it, too. It's a hobby you love & enjoy, so why shouldn't you have the most productive space you can?
How nice your hubby takes an interest! Mine would do whatever I asked, but he would never be the one to suggest it. Have fun!
